I would blame your dealer more-so than GM. Contact the upwards in the corporate ladder and they would probably have assisted better than the dealer you visited.
It's in safe mode, since the Service Engine Soon light came on. Bring it to Cadillac, it'll probably be the carburetor. It should be replaced under warranty. VW did this with a handbrake, it kept rolling and rolling even though it was in park and brake was pulled up.

You could have called on-star and asked what was wrong with your vehicle. I bet you it is something small i.e. a sensor. Cadillac offers a five year bumper to bumper warranty and a 10 year powertrain warranty.

They also received a bailout from the Japanese gov't in the 90's similar to GM. Why do all cars need to be weighed down by ridiculous systems that cost thousands to install and cause most maintenance issues? If it weren't for EPA, our cars would have kept higher compression ratios, gotten better fuel mileage with more power, and would have weighed hundreds of pounds less for a few decades now. @dlstb I agree that many repairs are due to such problems are also that SOME cars are over burdened with gadgets but cars now run cleaner and produce more power than the cars of the 60's, etc. just look at engine displacement then and now, Caddy had a 500 CI in the Eldorado and got about 10 mpg.. I bought 3 new Hyundais and only 1 small problem= great car in my opinion

Cars in the 60's were gas hogs because they were made to loose tolerances and were specifically engineered for power and not economy. Also, it is wrong to compare a 60's caddy designed for luxury and style to a 2000's hyundai. There is nothing wrong with a hyundai, but it is apples and oranges. BTW, the US did produce cars like the tempest and nova as well.

Esmith5121 is right. The car is in limp mode so you can drive it to a safe destination. It prevents the car from being fully operable so you won't cause any further damage. When my Mini Cooper did this, it ended up being a supercharger pulley issue.
This car is in "limp mode" and your Check Engine light is on--this is a safety feature allowing you to "limp" to a point where it can be towed or carried to a shop. On cars with low mileage like this which have been driven normally (no racing or accidents), this is a likely to be defective sensor or harness connection. What were the DTCs triggering the Check Engine light? Also, holding 4000 RPM at such a low speed for that long can cause your engine and catalytic converters to overheat.
@esmith5121 If the car was in limp mode the computer would be saving the DTC's and the service people could reproduce or at least track down the problem, I am thinking there is more to this story.

SRY for all the trouble you have had with your Cadillac. My '10 Escalade is not even one year old and it has 15+ problems mainly build quality and weird noises coming from engine. I had a 96 Chevy Beretta with the 4 speed auto. At times it would slip in first, shudder then catch. It would be fine for thousands of miles then act up again. Took it to the dealer and of course it wouldn't do it there. "Cannot reproduce problem" and they refused to open the trans to look inside for a possible loose or broken part. That and smelling antifreeze when heat was on, short lived brakes, rough shifting of the trans, piston slap cold and jerky acceleration at times. POS from GM 30Kmi.

This just happened to my 07 dts, and is not a sensor the tranny is burned with just 126kmiles.... I had a deville b4 wich I put 260k miles and never had problem with engine and transmission, don't know why I ran with this problem with a vehicle I just purchased from private party

Thats new cars for you. my step dads 2009 Nissan altima with a 6spd cvt trans sometimes doesnt want to shift into 2nd 3rd 4th 5th or 6th, sometimes it will jump from 3rd to 5th and at random moments and if you are at a stop and take off it will be stuck in 6th gear and the only way to get it out is to shift into manual mode plus if you re at highway speeds the rpms jump like crazy. fuck new cars they are all shit

had that happen to mine too, they found a faulty speed sensor in the tranny, what your car is doing is a good thing, the transmission goes into "limp mode" and doesnt allow the tranny to change gear, i had the warranty fix this, nvr happened again.

I'm sorry about your trouble here. I can't believe they wouldn't do something about this. We have a 2010 Buick Lacrosse (bought last September for $42k) and a 2011 Buick Regal (a month ago for $32k). Both have been beautiful. The dealer experience was impeccable. The sales manager has called us a few times to make sure we're satisfied with the cars. Couldn't have asked for better. I can't explain your obviously poor experience. It's bizarre. I'd sue the dealer first. It's their problem to fix.

this happens because the computer thinks its in park so it only opens the throttle enough to get the engine up to 4000 rpm under no load that why you cant go any faster this is a computer issue not anything mechanical and shouldn't be too hard to fix

The 6L50 is built at GM's Transmission plant in Strasbourg, France. 6L90 is built in Ypsilanti, MI at the Winslow Run transmission plant. For the most part GM has built their own automatic transmissions since the beginning, FWD or RWD. Ever heard of a Dynaflow or Hydramatic? Powerglide? Turbo 350/400? 700R4/4L60? 4T80? GM usually only bums out on manual transmissions.

Some American cars I had were pretty good and they went through a lot. The only reason why I also like imports a bit better is because they're better designs, more fuel efficient, simple to run, easy to maintain, cheaper, and a bit more peppier.

which may indicate that the issue is actually related to a bogus/founded error among one of the emission devices.

Esmith5121 is right. The car is in limp mode so you can drive it to a safe destination. It prevents the car from being fully operable so you won't cause any further damage. When my Mini Cooper did this, it ended up being a supercharger pulley issue.

This car is in "limp mode" and your Check Engine light is on--this is a safety feature allowing you to "limp" to a point where it can be towed or carried to a shop. On cars with low mileage like this which have been driven normally (no racing or accidents), this is a likely to be defective sensor or harness connection. What were the DTCs triggering the Check Engine light? Also, holding 4000 RPM at such a low speed for that long can cause your engine and catalytic converters to overheat.

SRY for all the trouble you have had with your Cadillac. My '10 Escalade is not even one year old and it has 15+ problems mainly build quality and weird noises coming from engine. GM has definitely been mediocre on quality. THat is why I hate those people that complain BMW and german cars are expensive. I had a 96 Chevy Beretta with the 4 speed auto. At times it would slip in first, shudder then catch. It would be fine for thousands of miles then act up again. Took it to the dealer and of course it wouldn't do it there. "Cannot reproduce problem" and they refused to open the trans to look inside for a possible loose or broken part. That and smelling antifreeze when heat was on, short lived brakes, rough shifting of the trans, piston slap cold and jerky acceleration at times. POS from GM 30Kmi.

Thats new cars for you. my step dads 2009 Nissan altima with a 6spd cvt trans sometimes doesnt want to shift into 2nd 3rd 4th 5th or 6th, sometimes it will jump from 3rd to 5th and at random moments and if you are at a stop and take off it will be stuck in 6th gear and the only way to get it out is to shift into manual mode plus if you re at highway speeds the rpms jump like crazy. fuck new cars they are all shit

had that happen to mine too, they found a faulty speed sensor in the tranny, what your car is doing is a good thing, the transmission goes into "limp mode" and doesnt allow the tranny to change gear, i had the warranty fix this, nvr happened again.

I'm sorry about your trouble here. I can't believe they wouldn't do something about this. We have a 2010 Buick Lacrosse (bought last September for $42k) and a 2011 Buick Regal (a month ago for $32k). Both have been beautiful. The dealer experience was impeccable. The sales manager has called us a few times to make sure we're satisfied with the cars. Couldn't have asked for better. I can't explain your obviously poor experience. It's bizarre. I'd sue the dealer first. It's their problem to fix.

this happens because the computer thinks its in park so it only opens the throttle enough to get the engine up to 4000 rpm under no load that why you cant go any faster this is a computer issue not anything mechanical and shouldn't be too hard to fix

The 6L50 is built at GM's Transmission plant in Strasbourg, France. 6L90 is built in Ypsilanti, MI at the Winslow Run transmission plant. For the most part GM has built their own automatic transmissions since the beginning, FWD or RWD. Ever heard of a Dynaflow or Hydramatic? Powerglide? Turbo 350/400? 700R4/4L60? 4T80? GM usually only bums out on manual transmissions.

The Big 3's been building cars for damn near 100 years. Cars would have to getting better, not worst. Since they are, you have to ask yourself: "How bad are new cars if the old ones last MORE than a new one???"
Some American cars I had were pretty good and they went through a lot. The only reason why I also like imports a bit better is because they're better designs, more fuel efficient, simple to run, easy to maintain, cheaper, and a bit more peppier.
