Mr. Gates' work is skewed. As those of you whom are educated in DNA sampling, or with conducting statistics, are aware: it is totally impossible to be 100% accurate, due to homogeneity, rater bias, etc. Gates, does not have access to the DNA of every African or Native American tribe (some extinct). Thus, it is impossible to identify their DNA within his subjects. But, since he has probably 98% access to white DNA, the results will always be skewed in favor of the white ancestry.

@ebeledi Louis parents are both extremely white looking. His shade is misleading. but yeah they are testing people with KNOWN recent white ancestors like grand parents. I want to see people who you don't suspect. Also why are whites acting like they aren't mixed. They found out James watson, Adolf hitler, and Larry david had over 16% mixed ancestry. James was 84% white and Larry was only 63% white!

I saw this documentary on PBS, and Henry Gates Jr. looked really upset that most of his DNA came from Ireland and Northern Europe. He even traveled to Ireland in the documentary, but you could tell it made him feel resentful to know he was so white.

I am not a fan of of this. The reason is there is no way anyone can say you are one of anything. We have many African anestors. To tell an AA they are descended from the Yoruba is not accurate. This suggest that all of my ancestors were Yoruba, and my forebears over the last 300 years mated only with this group. To say that you have a Yoruba ancestor is reasonable. We are an amalgam of various ethnic West Africans.

This is why I am not a fan of this. It is part con.

It's not part con. In a part of the show you see that they show your genetics are 20% from this part of Africa and 42% form this part etc. It concedes that slaves had no tribe on the plantation and mated accordingly. As for designating a tribe to a person, for us this is as good and as close as we're going to get. So it gives the person a place to look so to speak.
