  • Love the skit and agree with most of the content. However; smoking can lead to lung cancer. Period. Of course you could trip on your way out the door tomorrow and ......

  • so many fucked up arguments here. This is COMEDY not to be taken seriously. But let me tell you why this is comedy. Alcohol is a stimulant before it turns people into psychopaths (or those inclined to fucked up behaviour) whereas pot makes you a paranoid mental psychopath after you laugh it off. And let's be clear, it fucks up your short term memory. Those guys forgot they smashed up the garage door 2 minutes later.

  • @klindred Yet studies show (Princeton University for one) marijuana grows brain cells and prevents Alzheimers...

  • I have been looking for this bit for ages! It is the first I ever heard from Bill Hicks, downloaded it from Limewire by accident. It was disguised, ironically enough, as a Dane Cook bit. (I owe the person who did that A LOT). Please tell me which CD/set this is from?!

    Thanks!

  • Great audience!! just what bill hicks deserves

  • Give me a joint over a room filled with booze

  • Bill Hicks always speaks the truth. This routine is not only the truth, but it is based on 100% scientific fact. Anheuser Busch and the likes have so much power in DC and throughout the states. Everytime legailzing marijuana gets on the ballot. liquor companies along with pharmaceutical companies spend MILLIONS to run ads against it! I like liquor a ton, but if its legal then marijuana should DEFINITELY be legal!

  • whats funny is that the movie reefer madness was funded by liquor distillers look it up its a fact. Marijuana is illegal cause of racism, politics, and money and control. RESEARCH AND BE OPEN MINDED. remember life IS JUST A RIDE

  • lol that garage door shit was hilarious

  • alcohol + weed is great

  • @irlam7 depends which way round you do it. Weed first then a few drinks is ok, but getting pissed first then weed is recipe for disaster. Room spin anyone?

  • he kind of undermines his point. States that beer makes you slow and stupid and thats why it legal, cause the government want you that way, and then goes on to make anyone smoking pot appear to be slow and stupid.

  • @nixtblack beer makes people belligerent.

  • @mrhnm don't get me wrong, I completely support the distinction and agree with both him and you. I just feel as though his point was somewhat lost in the telling. Hicks is oft cited as a soothsayer and the bringer of hidden truths. I just want him to be more concise.

  • @nso1256 the smokers I know are some of the smartest people I have ever met. I am sorry your experience has been so different from my own.

    Havwe a great day.

  • "Hey buddy!"

    "what......"

    "........what?" XD

  • cannabis is the cure for cancer. search "run from the cure" it's a recent documentary about hemp oil getting the job done.

  • proud weed smoker and proud beer drinker and will tell you that beer has got me into alot more trouble than any pot has, unless you count that one time when i was a kid and greened out. Now years later and still passing out from alchole and getting in trouble and the weed has never brought anything but good times

  • I agree 100% with Bill here. I am NOT a pothead or alcoholic but I've been a smoker and a drinker. All the problems/troubles I had from ANY substances came from alcohol. Cannabis NEVER caused me ANY problems at all! I just don't get it...

  • Amazing wit, the crowd even seemed to be behind him more than usual. Love you hicks. See you on the roller coaster.

  • wow this a great audience

  • Lookat everyone who agrees.

  • @Thebikergolfboy Why would you try to get a job while you're stoned?

  • If they didn't push beer, the population would drop!

  • @RadarKat73080 HIlarious. And true!

  • @Ecardsful Thanks.

  • if cannabis was legal it would be taxed but if it were legalized we could at least grow our own HUMAN RIGHTS PEOPLE basic human rights shit

  • what two mutants dissliked this bit, they should be castrated, and yes i have been drinking

  • @payyouback187

    I'll drink to that

  • You don't come home and beat your wife high off of weed, but you do on liquor. Have you ever hear of anyone dieing from smoking to much weed? you have alcohol poisoning. Ever heard of someone killing someone else high off weed no. But you do with alcohol. Weed is not a drug it's a plant, and plants are beautiful. Weed makes you love everyone. You smoke weed and you love people. Ever smoke with some friends and be like daaaaamn I wanna kill that asshole. No you go daaaaamn I love that asshole. :)

  • The only problem is if it's legalized then it'll be taxed.. that'll suck..

  • @OMGTAYILU if it's legal peple can grow it in their back gardens and there will be no money in it at all for anybody!

  • @OMGTAYILU yep, I totally agree.

  • @OMGTAYILU I agree but I think it's bad to say "weed makes you love", we don't need weed to love ? Then that's fake love. I'm saying this but I smoke pot

  • Bill Hicks isnt dead.. he is Alex Jones

  • @MrTmartin125 proof?

  • @MrTmartin125 this is the most retarded comment ive seen in a while.

  • @MrTmartin125 You mean Hicks got a belly implant, a brain transplant and turned into a lying, fear-mongering, deceptive, conservative aSShole?

  • @MrTmartin125 Wow, you pissed off three consecutive comments. Good job.

  • stop killing my heroes!!!!!! bill hicks dead hendrix dead jfk dead chris mccandless dead ghandi dead m l king dead john lennon dead bob marley dead b cooper dead george carlin dead killl ummmm... julian assange next? forrrr ummmmm exposing the truth? man i hate the man. evil.
  • @almostforgotmyself Isn't so easy to believe 'the man' killed all of them?

  • Could anybody tell me what show of Bill's this is from? Sounds like a good one - the audience are responsive for once.

We didn't realize what a fucking jewel we had in Hicks. Another fallen hero.

  • "I have never seen people on pot get in a fight, because, its fucking impossible"

  • nothing should be illegal or legal. the concept of legality and the rule of governments that enforce them should fuck off. we don't need them. even chimpanzees have a natural sense of morality.

  • @sheepblitzer Chimpanzees eat their own kind when food is scarce........Also, humans are born with an extremely limited sense of morality, hence the reason we have rapists, murderers, and people that are just fucked up in the head. Anarchy would be the end of human kind but marijuana would make the world a better place.....Fact

  • Well obviously, I DO like my beer.......but I must admit that in those times that I have had cannabis available to me, my beer consumption has dropped something like 90 percent.....and in spite of "the munchies" I actually LOST weight. Now that's food for thought.......

  • @beerbrain420 That's funny, I like to GAIN weight due to the munchies. Seriously.

  • @beerbrain420 Your username makes that comment.

  • @beerbrain420 Thank you. Thank you for speaking the truth. You are my idol :)

  • @beerbrain420 your screen name is so appropriate lmao

  • I'd rather be violent, aggressive and obnoxious

  • @ShantyIrishman if ya need to get laid that badly, get a hooker. just don't mention you're a virgin.

  • @TheHigherVoltage lmao out of all the responses I've gotten to troll comments this one is the best

  • i like both

  • Two Anheiser Busch executives should get back to work!

  • I can listen to Bill Hicks telling the same jokes over and over again, and I still laugh my ass off.

  • I'm laughing so hard right now while rolling a spliff and I nearly blow my weed and tobacco on the floor :D

  • @ssssroryssss2 I spliff, technically does not contain tobacco, although a blunt does.

  • @jimbojamesIV - unless your rolling the spliff with a tobacco leaf.

  • @jimbojamesIV a blunt does not contain tobacco we take tha tobacco out first, you crazy

  • @ThaGodWeCreate A blunt wrap is literally a tobacco leaf. So yes, it does.

  • @jimbojamesIV Joint=rolling paper+weed. Blunt=Blunt wrap(which is a tobacco leaf) + weed. Spliff=Rolling paper+weed+rolling tobacco.

  • it's just a tax thing, if the goverment get's more money then it loses from legalising they will do it

but other countries will cut business or some and america/canada whatever does not like to lose money for a little freedom.

on the other hand look at all the total suicide retards that come to the Netherlands, fucking tourists throw themselfs of bridges because they figured out they are not that tolarant to drugs

  • @wesleyboonus it is about tax money matters more than human lives i personally have witnessed the horrors of alchohol first hand, the wife beating fight starting child abusing liver cancer giving drunk driving running over children ATROCITYS that comes with beer....marijuana for life

  • @wesleyboonus it's not just a tax thing, it's a control thing. Pot smokers, and don't tell anyone because this is a secret, are CRITICAL THINKERS. Well, most of them- you can't win 'em all.

Alcohol makes people dumb. Pot makes people question things. THAT is why it is illegal.

    Have a great day.

  • @tristramshandy3 ~ among other things. Cannabis is a threat to monopoly. i plan on having a great day. you do so yourself now, y'hear?:^)

  • @tristramshandy3 Also, I beleive pot is a value modifier, it can bring a person out of their programmed docile state. Makes one more creative, enhances a person's relationship with people and the world, and makes music, love making, food, and other forms of art so much more richer.

  • @tristramshandy3 That,my man,is no cock and bull story. I'm pretty unabashed about my love of sticky buds and it pleases me greatly to read someone who actually knows what they're talking about and is willing to look past the bullshit. Cheers to you.

    M.K.

  • @the215renaissanceman cock and bull story...nice my man! Viva Sterne!

  • @tristramshandy3 of course weed makes you dumb. i smoked for 2years made me slow, stupid, lazy and out of breathe. The only 'critical thinkers' who smoke weed i know of, just spout a load of nonsense but think theyre right, thus making them think theyre really clever. Bill Hicks is a legend but he had some big flaws in his liberal approach.

  • @TheElectriciti that was not the effect it had on me- in fact, it was the COMPLETE opposite. When I smoked, it gave me energy- both physical, as well as mental. It makes me critical and creative. It is the best. I'm sorry it didn't work for you- but the problem might not be weed, it might just be you. Just a theory. Take care.

Read the essays of Montaigne- the greatest book ever published.

  • @tristramshandy3 thats cool. I think it might just be you not me. My experiences fall into what the majority of people have when on it. smoke weed = instant gratification. You chill and relax. Drugs arent 'bad' but they're not good for you and they will fuck your head up if you do them all the time.

  • @TheElectriciti oh cool- you spoke to the majority of pot smokers and know all about it. I don't have that kind of time- thanks for doing the research. LOL! Maybe you just don't hang out with the right people- I have seen pot work wonders for many. Adios.

  • @tristramshandy3 its not even up for debate, its too well known. use all the logical fallacys, straw man arguements etc etc blah blah blah but weed is like video games; fun but bad for you. Speak to a hardcore gamer and they'll talk about how its 'good' for them but everybody else knows it isnt. Why cant liberal stoners just admit its bad but that they enjoy it? silly kids.

  • @TheElectriciti my experience conflicts with your closed minded views. Pot opened up worlds of creativity and critical thought to me, as well as to many of the people I have known. There is plenty of documentation as to its effects on creativity- from george carlin to the beatles- and just about every other movie and record in your collection. You reap the benefits, but fail to acknowledge the cause.

    Take care.

  • @tristramshandy3 well said

  • @TheElectriciti Because it's not bad... cannabis has been cultivated for thousands of years by humanity for a plethora of purposes... from clothing to rope to food to medicine (and people are rediscovering additional uses, such as for plastics and building materials)... and really, why should someone be at risk for criminal prosecution just for inhaling a bit of smoke from a burning plant? The government lets tobacco smokers do so without the risk of jail time... cannabis is not just for kids.

  • @tristramshandy3 blahblahblah blah blhablah

  • @buewgewstmeiers and a blah-blah to you too my good man :)

  • @tristramshandy3 You have no idea how wrong you are.

Most pot smokers are just a bunch of idiots who think they're political geniuses, when, in fact, the only people who think they are political geniuses are themselves and their stupid friends. (It's quite a similar problem with Tool fans, who think they're intelligent, when only they and other equally dumb Tool fans think they are)

Just because some good guys like Bill Hicks rep it, doesn't mean you're ALL as good.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow I think both of you are retarded lol. You're both just associating substances based off of what you've heard or experienced with a small amount of people (unless your acquainted with millions) and don't even seem to consider the fact that people are individuals and what might work for some may not work for others. Unless it's an extreme case of substance abuse ( "potheads or alcoholics") using one of those two in moderation doesn't hinder intelligence at all ur both wrong

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow umm...at least weed cause them to think about politics...beer makes you think about kicking someone's asssss!!!!!!!

  • @tristramshandy3 it's illegal because of hemp lol

  • @tristramshandy3 excellent comment sir!!!!

  • @tristramshandy3 Totally agree...this is also why all psychadelics are illegal including MDMA, BECAUSE THEY MAKE YOU EMPATHISE AND THINK FOR YOURSELF. The only flaw in the theory is that cocaine is also illegal and that turns people into aggressive loud mouth twats - very similar to alcohol, I'm guessing that's more to do with only south american countries producing it...imagine if they legalised cocaine, Bolivia would suddenly have a GDP bigger than the USA! Anyway I digress...must be the pot!

  • This is the first audio I've heard from Bill Hicks; I thank you for your insight and advanced philosophy.

  • Bill Hicks is one of the finest men who ever lived. He will forever have a place deep in my heart.

  • Hahahaha 169 likes and 1 dislike.

  • @rukon1234 yeah and the one person who disliked it was probably too high and pressed the wrong button haha :p

  • unbeatable, so simple and so true. thanks for uploading

  • Hey,

I have found this exact clip on LimeWire, just wondering which CD, set this particular bit is from?

  • Here's a thought that could end all the contraversy...In 1902 the Food and Drug Administration was established. Suddenly everyone had to list the ingredients in their "miracle tonics". When people realized what morphine and heroin was, a magical thing happened....all by themselves the American people made an informed choice and drug use went DOWN 95% almost overnight! There were no drug wars. No DEA...We did it all by ourselves. Is that fuckin great or what? I think we could do that now.

  • If everyone did pot

    then society couldn't function

so I think everyone should smoke pot

  • @canesrule96 It could still function similarly, it just wouldn't be quite as psychotic, unhealthy and irrational as it currently is.

  • @canesrule96 lol yeh society is completely fucked

  • @patrickledford420 completely controlled in fact haha yeah

  • Hammerofthegods i would take someone up on that bet, i really dont think it would be that hard

  • Theres an audience member who's really lound and annoying in this

  • UK joints? theyre called spliffs

  • u guys must all be american....in britain we all smoke weed with tobacco...well the majority anyway

  • Funny, we call that UK joints. Mix em with tobacco to make it burn better.

  • @87TheProdigy87 lolciggaweed

  • Its impossible to smoke pot as mush as a tobacco smoker would, I challenge any one to try it.

  • What "challenge"....?? Been there, done it... don't need to do it again. How old are you anyways...

  • it obviously hasnt opened your mind though... which is one of its main effects. good job there.

  • @Hammerofthegods86 No because that is just abuse, the only reason people smoke tobacco that much is because nicotine is physically addictive, whereas only dysfunctional people become psychological dependent on cannabis, the kind of people who form unhealthy relationships with most things, not just substances.

  • You sir are an idiot.

  • You are an idiot.

  • pot doesnt cause cancer.

    go watch some MPP videos.

  • Benzyprene alters the p53 gene, which is a tumor suppressor gene. Cannabis contains at least 50 carcinogens as well as tar.

  • @trakkaton well short of the 400 LEGAL cigarettes have, and how many chemicals in cigarettes alter genes?if one is bad all are bad,not just some dont be a hippocrite.Who did the studies that determined that it alteres genes? The government-the one that said cigarettes are mmm mmm good?Yeah the government doesnt lie to control the population--just ask the Indians.Just because the Govt.says it doesnt mean its true or that the data hasnt been manipulated to show in their favor.

  • Cigarette smoke possesses many poisons (up to 3000), including radioactive polonium. That's not the point.

I don't believe that the government invents ingredients which aren't there (they have no problem naming all the poisons in cigarrette smoke). Actually, most if not all of the scare tactics the government uses focuses on other aspects of the drug/ plant. You can eat it/ use a vaporizer, so any scare tactics focusing on the carcinogenic smoke could be debased using other ingestion methods.

  • It wouldn't be a good idea to smoke pot as often as smokers use tobacco anyways. What annoys me about cigarrettes is that it's accsepted at many workplaces to take smoking breaks every once in a while, while non-smokers couldnt go just outside and play with a jo jo for 5 minutes for no reason.

  • @Wowbagger86

Not going to say you are wrong about "It wouldn't be a good idea to smoke pot as often as smokers use tobacco anyways"

I just feel you shouldnt be spreading your ideas(ignorance) that are based off of absolutely nothing....

We still need to put in ALOT more research into MJ before we can start claiming things like this.

  • I don't really care what people do or not. I am no pot smoker, and if you agree with me, why call it ignorence ? ;)

  • Regular tobacco itself ruin the lungs, but large regular doses of THC can by studies already done damage the brain. By my opinion cannabis should be legalized, but abuse wouldn't be healthy anyway. PS' tell me what these so called ideas of mine are? What did I say to make you call me ignorent?

  • Mariuana should be legalized, I totally agree with Bill Hicks' opinion about the double standards. Yet, makeing pot smokeing a habit is not a good idea anyway. The damage of alcohol and tobacco might be more vicible, but THC is not a substance to be taken lightly. That's my opinion, not ignorence.

  • Nice post.

  • Genius

  • Was this on any of Bill's live stand-up albums, or is this a bootleg recording? Anybody know?

  • Lets put it in a time frame... EVER!

  • Theres too many assholes to illegalize alcohol.

And anyway, it isn't something I would endorse.

Cannabis needs to be legal. Nothing wrong with some fun and free love without the pricetag to your health.

  • i would never endorse illegalizing alcohol...as long as pot is legal as well.

if a truly harmless substance is illegal for idiotic reasons then all substances should be illegal.

wanna keep pot illegal? fine, ill roll over if we make alcohol illegal as well. if i cant smoke a joint after work then you cant have a beer. plain and simple.

  • @IndigoVagrant

Well, people like me with a predisposition to mental illness have to only smoke it very occasionally otherwise it can seriously fuck us up... I have Aspergers which can be made 10 times worse in the long term if i smoke loads of weed, it's happened once already...

  • @verzeda I'm Type 1 Bipolar, rapid cycler. And pot is the only thing that works when all the 'approved' drugs don't cut it. That is, I don't smoke often, but when I do, it's well worth it. Incidentally, I'm a social smoker, without much of a social circle lol. When I'm smoking with people though, I can stay stoned for days and days, only side effect is that 'next day' disorientation, which is so very mild, especially compared to a hangover, or that 'smokers cough' from cigs. Blegh, I hate both.

  • @LevNougol

Yeah I know what you mean. I was off it for ages and loved sitting with my mates while they smoked because it reminded me of those days but one day a zoot was going round and it was hovering in front of my face... It was too tempting!! haha

Now I just bought some madman from amsterdam :)

    Fucking lays yo' dick out.

  • @verzeda Lmao, awesome. Good times. Gooood tiiiimes.

  • @LevNougol me 2 dude umma fast cycler to and pot is all that clams me and makes me really function well

  • Cannabis enthusiasts who think they will help to get cannabis decriminalised by repeatedly pointing out the hypocrisy of the legality alcohol are mistaken.

Do they really think that those in power are going to listen to this argument and say yes they are right - lets decriminalise cannabis?

Their minds dont work that way - what they will say is - yes they are right about alcohol - lets criminalise it .

Will you be happy when both cannabis AND alcohol are illegal?

  • alcohol will NEVER be illegal, there'd be absolute public outlash and it would never pass in legislation anyway

  • You're right -- the word "prohibition" comes to mind...

  • What you have to do is convince them that pot can be a profitable enterprise, which I don't see how it couldn't.

  • Not true, alcohol will not be illegal in our life time.

It was illegal in the 60's and gave rise to a huge criminal market (funnily enough, very similiar to the marijuana market, though more violent). This caused a massive increase in crime, and many people got either hurt or killed. Prohibition Doesn't Work. Pot will be legal when conservative fascists realise they don't have the right to tell you how to live.

  • i hope that was a typo, because Prohibition of alcohol in the USA existed mostly during the 1920s, never in the 60s.

  • thanks for the correction ;) if 6 turned out to be 9, i don't mind.

  • lol

  • And when do you expect that miraculous day to occur? These are the people who take their cues from a book written by people who still shit in the woods. So I can only assume rationality/reasoning isn't really a virtue for them when creating legislation.

  • @slantedeskimo Are you saying books written before the invention of indoor plumbing are to be disregarded?????? WHat about The Art of War by Sun Tsu?? It was EVERY dominant general's hand book throughout history. It is also EVERY corporate CEO/almost any walstreet banker's handbook.

  • Not at all, I was referring to the bible specifically, and I guess religious texts in general. I agree, I've read the Art of War, and the fact that it's still applicable today only shows how ahead of it's time it was.

But I still do believe that it's inherently nonsensical to lead your life based on a book of fairy tales written by people even more unintelligent than we are today.

The Art of War = rational tactical philosophy, the bible = a book of fairy tales designed to control people.

  • so its used to kill people and fuck people over?

  • @lofty49

However if you legalize crime, then crime will drop. Beer being illegal then and how many drink now, just imagine how much "crime" would take place now

  • @lofty49 Hahahahaha.... in the 60's????????? You don't know your history do you? Prohibition was in the early 1900's dumbass...

  • I think you need to relax, we all make mistakes.

  • Hey sorry man that just kinda struck me as kinda ignorant. DOnt get me wrong though, I definitely agree with the point you made.

  • even if it was illegalized, id still civilly disobey. wouldnt you?

  • Amen brother.

  • @BloeJackman no

  • glad this is on here now

  • is 420

  • laws against nature, WTF?

  • why smoke why drink when you can drink beer and smoke weed and be FLYING HIGH all at the same time seriously a joint aint bad say a ciggarette causes so much death so does alchohol yet they r legal i think its not legal because if it was more ppl would buy weed then booze or ciggies bcuz it gets you high faster and besides that the governments get too much money busting ppl for it.

  • true

  • If it was legal it would cause the fall of the logging industry/oil company's/cheap medicine that doesn't cure one thing and make you sick with another/clothing factory's with underpaid(if there so lucky) slaves in third world country's making shit we don't need turning people into walking billboards.Hemp is Illegal because that's the only way they can profit from it by busting you taking your stash and selling it back to you.If it was legal it would cost as much as hamster food.

  • wow,that's like less then a dollar O.o

  • I'd say if it was legalised it would be state regulated and taxed to a point where there is no price change. That way the government gets the best of the deal.

  • Yeah it costs next to nothing to grow. you can spend $50 on soil and $50-100 on seeds and grow enough pot for a year maybe two or spend thousands a year buying it off dealers and you have no clue whats in it.

  • Comment removed

  • the man is a prophet and a genius, rest in peace among the universe bill.

  • one of my favorite quotes of bill's... "I have never heard one reason that rang true why marijuana is against the law."

  • it became illegal because it was so popular upon discovery that it threatened to put the tobacco and alcohol componies out of business, which would be a GOOD thing health-wise. that's just what i heard could be wrong so don't bitch but if you know then ya g'head and reply

  • Comment removed

  • you prefer beear because you're fuckin moron!

    you're wrong!

    K?

    K!!

  • Well of course i like beer but i like pot aswell beer is just a lot easier to get when your dealers out

  • Ide rather be sober than drink garbage to feel good for an hour and feel like shit for 5 hours. Alcohol is a hard drug as far as im concerned, anything that makes you crash and feel hungover and has to be altered to create it is a hard drug. Cannabis is perfect, all you do is cut it down, dry it, and set it on fire, no wonder there is little to no side effects.

  • I'd say distilled alcohol is a hard drug. Fermented alcohol isn't. Just my personal opinion, "beer" is drunk all over the world in pre-literate societies, most of them have a very hard stance on drunks. If a member of a tribe is consistently drinking too much they'll basically be told to get the fuck out of the tribe, which means they will die.

It all comes down to the fact that no drug is inherently "evil" they're just chemicals it just so happens some are easier to fuck yourself up on.

  • Hm, I wasn't aware of how native tribes handled excessive drug and alcohol use. The policy of ostracizing someone for it makes sense, and usually is justified, we have a similar process in modern society, but its not an eternal separation, usually, and some do recover and quit. I think the ratio of fully recovering addicts is like 1/5 or something though, it's tragic.

  • True. The irony is that the very same tribes that ostracize the wayward addicts also use hallucinogenic drugs (the same ones that are illegal in our society) to heal illness. Incidentally, before LSD research was banned in the sixties there were well documented cases of drug and alcohol addicts being cured of their dependency in one dose of the drug.

  • There's also anecdotal evidence that DMT drugs like ayahuasca (used in South American tribes to heal) can cure addiction. So anyone thrown out of those tribes for addicting must be a fairly hopeless case.

  • Yes, what most alcoholics don't even know is that Bill Wilson was cured of his drinking problem through a spiritual experience when he was given LSD, and then he later created AA.
