@ziggymike1 Is there a big RV market in England? I'm just curious. It is something we don't hear about in the US. Some of the campers here are getting ridiculously large. Some of the campgrounds that we go to you couldn't even find a space to park some of these 5th wheel campers let alone drive into the park. Another nice thing about our camper is that it always fits.
i know a lot of folks with big rvs and the tinkering never ends theres something that breaks all the time and need to be taken care off things getting lose, noises, something breaking etc...too MUCH WORK ! instead of play
@emforty2 I have to be honest. A teardrop camper is never done! Seems like there is always some little innovation a person adds to their camper. A teardrop gathering gives you all kinds of ideas. It isn't something yo HAVE to do ....you just want to! Seeing what others have done inspires a person.
Canadian?! Oh, my husband will get a kick out of that! No, neither of us are Canadians. We are both Nordakodans, that's North Dakotans for those of you not from the northern midwest. People in ND, MN, SD and the plains area of Canada share some of the same lingo.
We are very proud of our northern neighbors and take no offense in being mistaken for one. Funny, how we all have accents but to us we sound "normal".
Sorry I have got to disagree - we tent camped for awhile - with similar equipment to what you describe but the best inflatable mattress around will never sleep like the mattress in my newly purchased teardrop. My tent camping equipment is now for sale on eBay :) We love the teardrop!
No argument from me! Last spring we added a 2 inch memory foam topper to our bed and it is heaven. We don't use sleeping bags. We each have 2 feather pillows and share a blanket and a quilt. Wonderful sleeping!
VERY true! My Tent has much more space and fits inside my backpack. With an inflatable mattress, and sleeping bag, and camp stove, collapsible 5-gallon water container and cooler, I can do anything they can do, and it all fits in my trunk.
Our mattress is a 5 in thick foam mattress that we bought from the Slumberland Clearance Center. It cost 80 bucks which was a real deal cause just buying foam from an upholstery shop would have been $250. A full size is a little bit larger than our teardrop. So I had to open the mattress cover, cut the foam and restitch the cover.
Because the mattress is only, foam, no coils, we got it in by curling it up and putting it through the door. Not easy, a 2 person job..but doable!
Quite true! But I think he meant in the campground at that time. And that's true!! The only times we haven't been the only teardrop in the campground are the times we've been at teardrop rallies. Those are so much fun! It's great to see what others have built or, even better, RESTORED!!
That is so awesome. I saw something about these a couple weeks ago, and have been thinking of building one ever since. Currently I'm in the planning stages, and trying to figure out the proper inside dimensions (I'm 6' tall), while still leaving enough room for the kitchen area. I just wish I already had one, because I recently finished a long 3-month road trip around the country, sleeping in the back of my car or mooching off of friends along the way.
Yes it is! And there is so much less set up involved. We went to Florida last year with it. We buzzed down quickly. Two nights we slept at Walmart. Pulled in the parking lot, crawled in and went to sleep. Only downside of Walmart stops is the 4:30 sweeper machine that comes through the parking lot!
That's awesome!

I love the design! More comfortable (& easier to set up) than a tent, but not so big that you're taking home with you!
I wish I was good at carpentry... :D

Is it that much of a pain to sleep outside? That's the experience of camping! Tents!

Outside in a tent isn't a pain at all. Been there done that. This is just more convenient. To each ther own.

I have just one question. How in the world do you get that full size mattress inside such a small door?
I do hope to build one some day.

It's a very nice alternative to using a tent. Some of them can even be towed by a motorcycle.

Very cool video....we just purchased a 1947 teardrop, it's in really bad shape but will be restored. I can't wait to camp in it.
