Fantastic playing. I wanted to stand up and applaud. The guitar... very piezo-ey, deep, bright bass notes, but higher strings sounded artificial and thin. The alternate tuning made it difficult to know what it might do in standard tuning. Beautiful looking instrument though. And again, Ms. Genfan is just... wow. Excellent.

Just saw her live last week in Alexandria, VA. Not only can she play the hell out of an acoustic guitar, she uses some 34 different tunings, sings beautifully, writes great songs, and demonstrated the use of a custom "harmonic capo" on the 12 fret which allowed her to play harmonics above and full notes below the capo. Helluva show.

Wow. That is inspiring. I want to go home and pick up my guitar right now. But alas I will have to wait till the end of the day. I am definitely going to try that tuning. I love the feel it has. Does anyone know where I can find and lessons or tips on doing all the percussive style tapping and such. I have tried it myself with limited success and would love to know more about the proper technique.

"I shot this video and recorded the audio." I used a Azden SGM-1X Shotgun Mic, Camera mounted from a distance of about 5 feet away. What you hear is what exactly Vicki is playing "live" and without any audio enhancement what-so-ever. When I edited the footage and the audio, the raw sound was left alone.... I don't want to take away from the effort that went into this, but recording this via the guitar's pickup is really cheating - her tapping is really weak, and if she recorded this with a mic, it would pick up the sound from the string behind the tapped fret as much as in front of it- the guitar's pickup is in the bridge and therefore only picks up the intended note, even when weakly tapped.

In other words, don't hide behind that trick; there's no substitute for proper left hand technique.

The goal of this guitar's design from the start was to capture an accoustic guitar's essence through the body, preamp, and mult-transducer design. This guitar was specifically designed to have incredible stage (live) sound. For that reason it was captured by micing the accoustic guitar amp instead of micing the guitar like the rest of our videos were done.

I have heard similar stuff referred to as acoustic percussive fingerstyle, so maybe check that out. Petteri Sariola, Michael Hedges, Eric Roche, Andy Mckee, Kaki King are some artists you would also perhaps enjoy.

I use mega low open tunings too .. this guitar sounds wonderful .. clear deep lows .. nice tone balance .. i like the B band pickup boost cut on the lows too.
