check 1:21, thanks. Oh dear, I can estimate the foot-loose and fancy-free attitude of Jack Pickford in just those few frames, the bobbing head, the insincere, meek and bashful smile, of a man with flimsy build, sure to be a flipper himself. Uh, Olive, was there no good role model in your life, mother, aunt or sister, whose advice in looking for the right virtues, you sorely needed. Talk about melodrama.
@stanibol Another look at 'The Pickford Family', Jack is the tall and lean type, the silent pics reveal a noticeable overbite, characteristically very prosimian. I imagine he spoke fairly fast and was often in a flap, the adrenal type. I would learn more from recordings of his voice. The psychohistory of the Pickford Family begins to form a picture, tho' one should never assess a person on basis of their biological kin, but the early beginnings lay a foundation to later attitudes.
Olive looks like a 'dish' (a sexually attractive person), great actress material, flirts with camera same as Marc Bolan, both lead wreckless lives, both died young in a horrific way, but I guess that's where the similarities end. Olive Thomas in the scene dressed like a pretty sophisticated flapper, seated with a Mr Distinguished, what an excellent pair they present - was this fellow also her off-screen husband/lover? Perfect pin up couple.
@stanibol Olive's husband was Jack Pickford. Thats not him with her in that clip (if thats the clip I think your talking about!). The clip at 1:21 is Olive and Jack. They look like a great couple, but their personalities didnt combine well.
I recently "discovered" Olive...haven't seen more than small portions of any of her movies -- yet -- but like her a lot. Hopefully they'll restore and release more of her films and show them on TCM!
