You could say that the reason Rift feels so much like WoW is because blizzard got it so right when they designed and made WoW that Trion could only create an image of it when they made Rift.

@LaneHull Flying mounts RUINED World of Warcraft.. 90% of your gaming experience will be alone and you wil almost never have to fight the alliance because everyone is flying all the time.. it really killed the survival aspect of the game and the "war" feeling of the game.
@MrKevin396 Not only flying... all those instant summonings, stupid LFD tool which made a lot of players sit in Stormwind/Orgrimmar at lvls 15-85, they've made a lot of elite mobs non elite so everybody can solo them... It's just so plain and boring...
@TheInsomniac97 I quit Rift because there was just nothing fun for me to do besides the occasional zone event, and weekly raids. The thing is, is when you become Full T3 + Relic, your only ingame progression is Hammerknell. When I say only progression, I mean that. Everyone tells me do T2's...For what? It is absolutely pointless to do T2's, and not to mention they are played out. It is pointless to do 10 mans and T3 raids, because I have all the gear, and The Soul Reaper.
@TheInsomniac97 Trion needs to make it to where you can trade in Plaques of Achievement for Marks of Ascension, and then Marks of Ascension for Greater Marks of Ascension because that would give me a reason to farm T2's and T3's. Until then it is a waste of 15$ a month.
what kills wow for me is blizzards refusal to balance the game. something is ALWAYS OP. then to fix the imbalance they create they break another class and make it op while making a different class underpowered. im not to max level in rift yet but so far i have not run into any balance issues
Rift has no noticeable bugs... The graphics are better. WoW is so derivative with their dynamic events. The game is stale...This guy showed you a level 3 character in Rift, then showed his high level WoW character. BIASED!

@Dan43651 WELL, he has his high level tauren(already seeming cooler from the start) takes it around with high level spells showing off his character. Then switches to Rift using a level 8 character or some crap showing the boring starting areas not even showing the RIFTS, the whole point of the game that makes it play like Warhammer. The whole point of the game is to band together with other players to take down Rift Invasions which are giant portals that release demons. TON of XP from this.

It's not the combat *animations*. It's more subtle than that. It's the sound effects. The SFX line up and punctuate combat better in WoW. In RIFT, which is what I'm playing ATM, I really don't enjoy playing as melee because the combat feels spongy... Ranged and Spell SFX and animations on the other hand are far superior and the animations range greatly depending on what you're wielding.
WoW was a great game... the best mmo and best graphics... im 12 but... No game was addicting and fun as WoW... but they keep making you pay 40bucks for more silly stupid expansions.... 15monthly +60 to get the game isnt enuf??
i've played rift for a while up to level 42 warrior (level 50 is the current cap), and i can honestly say i have no idea what your talking about with the combat animations, i think you've just conditioned yourself to like WoW's more.

Iv been playing this game for a couple of days now and my opinion has developed a little bit. Basically, the graphics are 10x better than that of WOW, the features in this SURPASS that of wow. Its clear to me that allot of thought has been put into this game, or at least they've thought about copying all the right features from other games. And? Right now you can play it for free for 7 days. If you're here because you're interested in playing an MMO, I highly recommend trying this past lvl 6.
how can you say rift's animations are horrible? all the melee and cast abilities in wow look the same where as in rift theres is much more variety in the animations. And i don't see any problem with the melee animations in rift.

For once when i watched this video i think i heard a fair opinion and description from someone who knows what they are talking about (if not to the extent of what was mentioned). I think rift has much more potential than WoW so i made the switch to rift and i have not regretted it. The world events are fun and make it so the lack of extra content doesn't really make a difference to me. Cant wait to see what Trion can come up with for Rift in following year.

The only real difference is That WOW has 10 classe with 3 talent tree and rift switched it around with 4 classe and like 8 talent tree each it gives more customisation freedom to the player

@CodyTheGlorious It's not hating on Rift. It's simply World of Warcraft is the better of MMORPGs when it comes to gameplay. I've played Rift and still trying it out. The graphics are better... but they aren't a deal breaker. The art style doesn't exactly impress me either. Like the video author said, WoW gameplay is a lot smoother. Also, WoW's color palette is much more enticing.
But as I said, I've burnt myself out on WoW. But my first time playing WoW was much more fun than first time Rift.
I've burnt myself out on WoW over the years, but Blizzard hit the nail on the head with the game. Even years ago, before the homogenization, it was an easy game to pick up and learn how to play it. I always thought the music was great in the game too. The first time walking into Stormwind City I think is what imbedded that "WoW" feel for me.
I tried Rift, and it is a good game in it's own right - but the music, art and animations is what turned me away.

Rift is fun as hell but they need to fix there population issues and the level gaps for warfront... wow has it figured out and that is why it works so well... Once the pop issues get fixed it will be a very fun game....
If I have to choose, I take World of Warcraft, but when I first time look'd at Rift, Soul trees etc, they looked really interesting, my friend plays Rift and he told me about this game, I don't say that WoW isn't interesting, it is, but when you just choose a class, like cleric - you can choose your soul tree you have 3 available and you can be support, healer etc. Soul trees like Paladin and Druid. Healing trees, tanking trees, listen to what he says in the video, my opinion.

@PeaceViberations WoW copied tons of other games. That's what made it so great. To be completely different is too much of a risk, and usually ends up in failure with MMOs.

MMORPGs have been around way beyond WoW's 2004 release. WoW derives A LOT from games such as Everquest which came before it. As a matter of fact, there is nothing in vanilla WoW that was new to the genre, and it was rather a collection of successful ideas from other games culminated into one.
I'm actually very surprised that anyone would ever think WoW was one of the first MMOs.

Every MMO copies another. WoW copied Everquest but added so much original story into it, it's not really recognized. I tried Rift, the graphics aren't as great as they seem, but are better then WoW. I believe you have to pay for your gear in Rift... so more expensive I assume. And if Rift wants to steal WoW players, they'll need to get more creative with their story. I could of done the same thing and called it "Portals"

@SkillsonaK Rift is a much cheaper investment since there are no expansions yet while WoW has 3. You can get Rift for about $20-$30 if you look around. Both games have the same subcription model: $14.99/month.
@jleack You can get the digital copy for rift only for $20 during the summer, and if you want the digital copy of the collectors editions it's only $25. I think that if anybody gets bored of rift or WoW around the end of 2011 that they should go and try Guild Wars 2, because I know i'm certainly going to.

how can you say rift's animations are horrible? all the melee and cast abilities in wow look the same where as in rift theres is much more variety in the animations. And i don't see any problem with the melee animations in rift.

For once when i watched this video i think i heard a fair opinion and description from someone who knows what they are talking about (if not to the extent of what was mentioned). I think rift has much more potential than WoW so i made the switch to rift and i have not regretted it. The world events are fun and make it so the lack of extra content doesn't really make a difference to me. Cant wait to see what Trion can come up with for Rift in following year.

@CodyTheGlorious It's not hating on Rift. It's simply World of Warcraft is the better of MMORPGs when it comes to gameplay. I've played Rift and still trying it out. The graphics are better... but they aren't a deal breaker. The art style doesn't exactly impress me either. Like the video author said, WoW gameplay is a lot smoother. Also, WoW's color palette is much more enticing.
But as I said, I've burnt myself out on WoW. But my first time playing WoW was much more fun than first time Rift.

I've burnt myself out on WoW over the years, but Blizzard hit the nail on the head with the game. Even years ago, before the homogenization, it was an easy game to pick up and learn how to play it. I always thought the music was great in the game too. The first time walking into Stormwind City I think is what imbedded that "WoW" feel for me.
I tried Rift, and it is a good game in it's own right - but the music, art and animations is what turned me away.

Started a rogue in rift and saw the talents: stealth, backstab, vanish(not that name but same effect as vanish) blinding powder, incapatitating(sap) and the whole combo point-finishing move thing etcetc. Rift is like a wow with newer graphics. Btw its not bad. I need to say i like rift more cuz the realistic graphics. :F Its like a serious edition of wow. :E

Rift is fun as hell but they need to fix there population issues and the level gaps for warfront... wow has it figured out and that is why it works so well... Once the pop issues get fixed it will be a very fun game....

If I have to choose, I take World of Warcraft, but when I first time look'd at Rift, Soul trees etc, they looked really interesting, my friend plays Rift and he told me about this game, I don't say that WoW isn't interesting, it is, but when you just choose a class, like cleric - you can choose your soul tree you have 3 available and you can be support, healer etc. Soul trees like Paladin and Druid. Healing trees, tanking trees, listen to what he says in the video, my opinion.

MMORPGs have been around way beyond WoW's 2004 release. WoW derives A LOT from games such as Everquest which came before it. As a matter of fact, there is nothing in vanilla WoW that was new to the genre, and it was rather a collection of successful ideas from other games culminated into one.
I'm actually very surprised that anyone would ever think WoW was one of the first MMOs.

Ui has to be clear and easy to use so what more can be there if not action bars, xp bar and micro menu ? I've played many mmos (WoW, Rift, L2, GW and LotRo) so belive me they all look the same. Honestly, I am pro WoW. I've played since Vanilla. And I still enjoy it. Yes, it does indeed get boring at times, and I hate all the noob friendly crap Blizz has introduced over the years. But, I am not giving up on it. Now, I will not go as far to trash mouth Rift. I've got nothing against it. But, it may actually be good for them to make a challenge for WoW. In fact, Blizzard may actually want one. They will then strive to make new content to compete back with Rift. And, everyone loves wars!

Every MMO copies another. WoW copied Everquest but added so much original story into it, it's not really recognized. I tried Rift, the graphics aren't as great as they seem, but are better then WoW. I believe you have to pay for your gear in Rift... so more expensive I assume. And if Rift wants to steal WoW players, they'll need to get more creative with their story. I could of done the same thing and called it "Portals"

@SkillsonaK Rift is a much cheaper investment since there are no expansions yet while WoW has 3. You can get Rift for about $20-$30 if you look around. Both games have the same subcription model: $14.99/month.

I think that if anybody gets bored of rift or WoW around the end of 2011 that they should go and try Guild Wars 2, because I know i'm certainly going to.

i played WoW for about 2 years, and quit around may 2010. back then, the general attitude of WoW players was a pretty nasty one. is it still the same way. and is the rift community as friendly as people have told me?

@imabigboy652 The WoW community is still very bad, and I've actually found it to be worse than during its initial golden years.The Rift community is pretty similar, but I've found it to be a little more thoughtful in general. This could be due to the popularity, or something else. Whatever the case, every time I play another MMO (most recently FFXI) I find myself shocked at how kind the community is. WoW just has too many nasty people.
