@NinjaMatt27 it's made for the violin, but chris thile played it on the mandolin because the violin and mandolin are tuned the same way. so he just substituted the mandolin.
Edgar doesn't come from a classical school. He always played bluesgrass songs, that's how he started, and that's why he sounds so different from any other bass player I know. amazing
@renasoaca actually he went to undergrad at Indiana University through their music performance program which is heavily classical. Bassists DaXun Zhang and Michael Cameron have come from there.
My teacher played next to Edgar in their orchestra and he said in college his bass was held together with duct tape in some spots!
@themightymearns It's because that bowhold is advantageous since it's very efficient in regards to weight. Edgar can conserve movement since he has to move his hand less than he would with his other bowhold. I believe one of the strengths of that bow hold is articulation (notice that he almost always uses it for fast passages).
Edgar Meyer is my absolute favorite Double Bass Player. You are going to fall in love with how easy he makes it appear that big piece of furniture of an instrument is to play.
You can jam to something that you've written down. I'm sure that's how the piece was conceived in the first place. Every time something new can happen and that's what makes it great.
Edgar Meyer gain some weight, hasn't he?

Meyer makes the bass sing. Everytime I listen to this I have to go grab my own bass and practice a few more hours hahaha.

This guy has taught me in two masterclasses. I love how Meyer easily glides up and down the fingerboard!

@renasoaca i think you should do more research on this guy before you state that he "always played bluegrass songs" :)
