Hate to sound negative, but Don Barnes' voice is just SHOT......shame, he had a really great vocal style back in the day. I agree about the "famous last name" status of Donnie Van Zant.......he could stay home or do the country stuff with Johnny, you'd never miss him in the music(except for the really OLD material he sang lead on). Larry still souds strong....where the hell is Jeff Carlisi?
@bowslap - Huh!!?? We just saw 38 Special @ the Strawberry Festival and Don Barnes sounds exactly the same as he always has!! Awesome!! Still hitting the high notes!
one of my favorite bands, these guys are the shit.I wish they would make a few stops in westren canada.the closest they played this summer was las vegas about 1200 miles from my home in alberta
i love 38 becasue there songs are about love and those lyrics speak to about everyone who fuked a relationship and now regret it hahah it makes me feel good for some reason even tho i cant find any reason to be happy all i can do is smile and go into my music to forget about things and escape hahah one more thing dont you notice that when you fuked a relationship up that most songs in your ipod or some tv shows theres a sap getting dumped or losing love i had about 20 songs 5 shows one was noteb
@falconaire29 why???? if it werent for his name, he wouldnt even be in this band.....here he is playing acoustic......for what reason i dont know, and when he plays an electric hes not even really playing..........
i think the reason is on the original recording Donny Van Zant sings with him here and now adays Don Barnes sings it alone. lve never quite understood that. but yes its the lead singer but almost 30 yrs later.
I just saw 38 Special for the third time April 24th, 2008, they were in Bartlesville Ok for a one year anniversary party a casino held, they put on one hell of a show, the best one yet!
well, just saw them in Rochester NY WITHOUT DONNIE...I walked out!

Don Barnes always sang this, along with most of their songs. Donnie Van Zandt doesn't do too much... never did.
