I have to admit Y and R was great at casting Jill. All three actress were able to make this character their own. I started watching the show in the early 80's when Deborah Adair was Jill, then Brenda came back portraying her as a villaneous and finally Jess Walton, brought so many layers to Jill. I loved them all but Jess Walton was clearly the best actress of the these women.

Deborah Adair was so awful as Jill. I always thought she was a lousy actress-I heard when people said she was the "pretty" Jill. I just don't see it-she seemed so mousy & pathetic. She sorta resembled Julia Sweeney from Saturday Night Live. I will give her credit though out of all 3 Jills she seems to have captured a much more softer side of Jill

Deborah Adair was really good as Jill in 1982 & 1983 before Brenda returned.By this small clip of her in 1986 it's hard to really get any idea because she was just a fill in for a week

@tallulah1961 : actually there were 4 Jills; there was an actress named Bond Gideon who played the role for a short while. she was the lesser remembered Jill i guess.

Actually there have been five Jills. Brenda, Bond, Deborah, Jess, and for a short time in 1989 Judith Chapman (who now plays Gloria) played Jill when Jess was ill

Brenda was good as Jill in the 70's, but in the 80's she was awful! Over the top, stilted, and just a big campy mess. Maybe she went off her meds in the 80's? I really think Jess Walton was and is the best Jill. She brought so much more depth to the character, and I believe once the producers/writers saw that they had an actress who could handle more complex material, the writing for the character got better too.

I've been watching Jess Walton as Jill for many years. The only time I've ever seen Brenda Dickson as Jill is the internet and I must say I like her. Having seen her 70s and 80s scenes, I see why many prefer her as Jill over Jess. As for Deborah Adair, I've only seen two or three episodes with her as Jill and it isn't enough to make a fair judgment but she is good. As for Brenda vs Jess, the video does not give a fair reprentation since Brenda was hamming it up in her final two years.

Every one seems to prefer Brenda Dickson as Jill, but personally i think her style is over acted and over haughty. I much prefer Jess Walton's style which seems honest and vulnerable, yet sticks to the jaded, defensive and ever narcissistic character which is Jill.

Brenda Dickson IS Jill. Everyone always seems to say that although she started out good she became to Dynasty. In my opinion, it made perfect sense that she did. When the character was first on the show in the 70's she longed for wealth, power, and position, therefore, THAT Jill was a humble and meek. Once she married money a few times, held high postions in companies a few times, and although not mega wealthy but well off, she WOULD flaunt it in everyone's face that she had MADE IT!

I started watching Y&R when Jess was already in the role of "Jill," (late 80s). Could someone explain what was going on here? Same scenes, switched up between Brenda and Jess? I have heard rumors and such, but I would love to know more of the story. Great video, by the way!!!

I prefer Brenda as Jill but liked Deborah's performances in the early 80's and for the week she returned temporarily.Brenda was only campy in the role in 1986 & 87.She was so different in the 1970's and even 1983-1985.

As for Jess, i've never really cared for her as Jill and was hoping she would have quit by now.

Bond Gideon is also a lovely actress who takes time out for her fans, she is a gem, wish she would get back on our screens. She was/is a very strikingly beautiful actress. Come back Bond!

Brenda was best 73-80 and 83-86. It seemed once she tried to be Alexis Carrington her performance fell apart. She even put on a British style accent.

Brenda will always be Jill to me, but comparing these two actresses in these scenes is not really fair as it was Jess's first day at work and Brenda's last. Also Dickson was reportedly ill on that day ("I bashed my hip!") and probably knew she was about to be fired... I loved Jess too especially in her first few years as Jill when she played it more like BD, before she became softer around the edges and lets face it - sort of frumpy...

@Aarona13760 Deborah Adair came on in 1980 when Dickinson originally left the series.

Dickinson left the series in 1980, and the role was temporarily portrayed by Bond Gidion, and was replaced by Deborah Adair in 1980. Adair stayed on until 1983, when Dickinson returned on a contract basis.

Dickinson reported she was kicked off the show close to the end of her contract, and was replaced by Jill Walton in 1987, who continues to play the role to this day... (see second comment)
