to make a smash while running you have to crouch (press down) to stop the running animation and then use the C-Stick to use the smash you want.. In this case he just run -> crouch -> C-Stick in the other direction.

I guess the only thing you can do is practice doing one after the other as fast as you can

jump with y probably easiest for all of that stuff. x is ok too but up on the analog is a no-no. melee technique is extremely hard generally so practice practice practice
