@nosey32 I'm so glad you pointed that out, because I get many people not liking her voice in this one. But she's explained it a million times. "The voice to capture the essence of Kathy being a ghost in Heathcliff's world." Once you understand that then you get to understand it's artistic value.
And yes, I was first put off by her voice in this, and somewhat embarrassed, until I got it.
@jeaniejudy9 You don't have to get it. If everybody got Kate Bush's music, voice or writing talent (or any one artist, for that matter) then the world would be a boring place.
And I'm not even being a jerk towards your comment, or an asshole, or even condescending. I seriously appreciate your opinion because it's what makes it all interesting.
@jtmichaelson The tone of her singing is only to capture the essence of Kathy being a ghost in Heathcliff's world. She has been asked by many in the press about 'that' voice and she responds the same every time. I admit I was put off that voice when I was younger and Pat Benatar's version was the only one I knew. So I completely understand anyone not liking or understanding Kate's vocals.
The reason why I approve comments is because of the ugly people ... (comment continues)
@jtmichaelson ... just trying to start fights (or 'trolls' as it were). I approve criticism of both my work and Kate's music/voice because I can't bring myself to suppress people's opinion. Plus my work (the video) is a learning lesson and criticism only makes the next one better. Seeing how this is one of my first videos, I've got a long way to go.
I greatly appreciated your opinion and to date I've only disapproved one comment that was trashing Kate fans as a group.
@jeaniejudy9 Your comment was quite civil considering my poor try at humor...I sincerely do not like the tone of her voice in this song, I'm not sure what she's trying to do-- but it the tone annoys my ears--to each his own. That being said, however, I should've expanded on my comment and said that I have listened to several tracks of Hounds of Love, like several of them and quite like Cloudbusting. Thank you for your generous response.
@IgorGeek123 Funny you should say that because a close friend of mine told me that The Beatles sucked. It was then that I realized that everybody has different tastes and opinions.
So now, my friend, doesn't have to listen to The Beatles when we hang out together.
@markwarren38 Admittedly, I have to say, I was sort of put off by her voice (only in "Wuthering Heights") when I first heard it when I was younger. But then again I hated Peter Gabriel with Genesis at one time -- until I grew up and realized Peter's importance in the band's sound by the time they made it popular here in America. Now I can only listen to Peter Gabriel's Genesis.
@jtmichaelson I shouldn't have used the words 'grew up' because I didn't mean it in a derogatory way. I meant 'as I got older and began understanding art and it's value'.
@Kompass705 I brought up the bass in this remaster and as I was finalizing the master copy, it hit me that the bass in "Wuthering Heights" is extremely reminiscent of Tony Levin (of Peter Gabriel).
I noticed similarities in this studio version of "Wuthering Heights" and Peter Gabriel's live 1992 World Live version of "Solsbury Hill".
@alraune6666 As a writer and singer, "Wuthering Heights" is beautiful and haunting, but her best, for me so don't yell at me, is "Babooshka" and the original "Deeper Understanding" (and maybe "Running Up That Hill").
Nossa! Lembro do meu primeiro emprego, lembro da minha primeira paixão eu lembro dessa cantora Kate Bush como se fosse hoje nunca saiu do meu pensamento! Obrigado por postar o vídeo! Daniel Silveira - São Paulo - Brazil
@sandyjuela65 I went through that phase with this song a few times, too. It's still one of the first songs I play in the car on long trips. My wife hates going on car trips with me. LOL
@LunaticCalm You know, being American, I missed "Cloudbursting" it's initial release. And belatedly in my life I discovered that song and absolutely love it. Thanks for the comment :)
@sprucetree49 Some believed it was David Gilmour of Pink Floyd because of his earliest association with Kate. Some actually still believe it's Dave but it truly is Ian and ironically Ian still complains about the solo. But I do love how the ending solo mimicks Kate's vocals. It actually gave the song some epic quality to it - but that's just me. Once a musician always a musician, I guess. Thanks for the comment.
Wonderful song and video and I also recommend the Bronte novel and the old black and white movie. Bush deseves a lot of credit for writing this song, and her performance is quite unique. She looks stunning in the red dress against the green grass especially. I bought her album when it first came out and it's nearly all strong material. She deserves greater fame.
@sprucetree49 It was because of this song that I actually read the novel - however, movie-wise, I have to stick to the '91 Kosminsky version because it's how I was introduced to the movie. And the 'Red Dress' video is my favorite one.
...Normally, I -*despise*- fan edit videos, but this is one of the extremely -rare- occasions where someone has actually wound up with a professional-level result. Damn fine work, and a clip I was pleased to download for future viewing in case some MafRIAA or WiMPAA choad tries to pull it down with a DMCA notice. Again, excellent job! Kate would love it :)
@B0bMosley3 Thank you. I appreciate that - and yes, I'm supposing that they will take down our videos. This particular video is not allowed to be seen in some countries. And I had made another one that was forced to have advertising on it that I took down before anyone could see it. Glad you like it and thanks again.
@jtmichaelson ...No problem, sir. I do give credit where credit is due. I also strongly urge -anyone- who visits YouTube to have some sort of downloader installed, such as YouTube Downloader - no clue why it's called that, mind you - and have PlayFFD installed so you can watch the clips you download without having to use a viewer other than Media Player. If you see a clip you like, download it because it probably won't be there the next time you go looking for it!
@Redflowers9 Someone once said she'd put Stevie Nicks up against Kate any day. I don't know - Stevie is great but Kate is just a shade more. But we all have opinions.
@danmas86 Don't let my wife hear you say that! OMG, she'd kill both of us! LOL She LOVES Noel. But I have to hand it to Kate for putting Noel in her "Deeper Understanding" video. Thank you for the comment.
I was born in 1973 so I first heard this when I was 5, and saw her shorty after. And I fell in love with her. And 30 odd years later (very odd years) I'm still in love with her.
She's mad as a box of frogs. Mad frogs. wielding spoons.
@boojum420 A box of frogs wielding spoons? Brilliant! There was once a rock group named a Box Of Frogs. But that's another video someday down the line. Excellent comment. THanks for watching.
@innamorata40 Judging from your user name, I would assume you might be a Pat Benatar fan? And some will argue that Pat's version is better - and I was one of them at one time, when Pat first came out and covered this song in '79. But then again it could just be a coincidence and I'm wrong. Either way, thanks for watching.
@kurtu5 I completely agree. Many of them are here on YouTube. I always check out new artists here. Thanks for pointing that out because some are just as good as Kate and some help expand your music taste.
@turchesefull Because of my wife it ended up being my favorite movie, too. I only began reading the novel because of this song. BTW, the movie version I was forced to like was the 1993 Peter Kosminsky version, with Juliette Binoche (who is very pretty) and Ralph Fiennes (who my wife would leave me for if he ever knocked on our door).
@46maximus Adobe Audition 3.0, actually. I used a Dynamic EQ for the bass because a standard EQ would have distorted it as much as was needed from the original CD. Then a Notch Filter to remove any harmonics, but I was surprised the original CD had good sound but was still flat, as all CDs tend to be. And for the highs I simply used a standard EQ, bringing down the 16k channel and slightly brought up the 8k channel, and then dropped the dB level down 2, to keep the track from clipping.
@jtmichaelson After remastering "Wuthering Heights", it was rather easy to remaster her entire Kick Inside and Lionheart albums. But from there new settings had to be used. Never For Ever was hard and Hounds Of Love, due to the synthesizers and drum machines she used, was difficult and I don't think it sounds right -- but I don't have a lot of time to work on any more right now.
@jtmichaelson I wasn’t expecting a reply. I’m seriously honoured. I only hope Miss Bush appreciates your genius work. It’s not easy. Having listened and watched other interpretations of this classic ‘evergreen’, this version is, by far, the most superior! You have truly resurrected the wondrous, beguiling haunted lamentations of Cathy’s ghost. I salute you again, sir!
@46maximus I'm sorry it took so long to reply. Got a work overload. Thank you for the kind words and I'm hoping to do some more videos soon -- I've got my eye on "Running Up That Hill". And I've obtained a new video editing program I'm really wanting to learn and will do so when the work load drops a bit. Thank you again and I'm sincerely appreciative of your comment. It actually inspires me to do something else soon :)
@JoolsyB Watching her perform this song inspired me to make the video. I loved watching different aspects of her performances, whether it be her eyes, dance routine or just the way she performs in general, and I wanted to capture certain moments of each version. Of course I couldn't get all the moments I wanted because Kate is, to me, one word, 'amazing'.
@dermaschool If you want to see some really awesome Kate videos, this guy, Vibesinthesky, here on YouTube, does some fabulous work using Kate songs and movie scenes. Now he's got the best videos. Check out his video for "Wheeler Street". I was impressed.
@jtmichaelson Thank you, I'll check this out too. I also made my husband watch the movie :), the one with Ralph Fiennes, what an unforgettable performance and story!
@dermaschool I can't seem to watch any other version, although I am curious about the 2011 version. I read a lot about it and many are saying that it is closest to Emily Bronte's novel than any version. I don't know, my wife wouldn't like someone else playing Heathclif. LOL. I'll have to watch it in private.
@Gypsymoonstone Thank you. Many of her songs have the same effect on me. Running Up That Hill, Wuthering Heights and Babooshka are my three personal favorites.
@122457 That's when it started for me and then a year later I got to see "Wuthering Heights" video, after Pat Benatar did a cover of it on her In The Heat Of The Night album, 1979. Been a fan of both women since, but Kate's is my favorite.
@howiepoppycoco Being an American, I had to look that one up and thought it was awesome. You actually got me saying it now. "Piss take". I like that one.
watching this makes me remember how lucky I was to have been around as a teenager when this song hit the charts - performances and songs of this calibre have paved the way through the ages to bring us other artists but Kate will never be bettered -
@TheKingTubby1 Very well said. Oddly enough my earliest memory of this song is Pat Benatar's first album and I loved her version when it first came out (1979) -- unaware of Kate's version. When she hit the U.S. with "Running Up That Hill" I got wind of this version and have been faithful to only this version since. Thanks for sharing the memory.
@dawnnbaz Thank you sincerely. It was a labor of love. Kate is one of the most inspiring artists I've ever come across, only 2nd to the Beatles, and "Wuthering Heights" is truly one of the most beautiful songs I'd ever heard.
I love how she speaks from her heart thru her music

@howiepoppycoco Being an American, I had to look that one up and thought it was awesome. You actually got me saying it now. "Piss take". I like that one.

TOTALLY AMAZING!!!

@knifecut My favorite Kate video is the one she hates the most, The Red Dress version. I thought it was more classy than the white dress video.

@thumper444 Yes I do. She is graceful and haunting. Just real talent and beauty that has yet to be equaled.

watching this makes me remember how lucky I was to have been around as a teenager when this song hit the charts - performances and songs of this calibre have paved the way through the ages to bring us other artists but Kate will never be bettered -

@arosegrowingold Thank you. There were others I wanted to add but hindsight...

@arosegrowingold I have a new version that adds more videos to this one. Same remaster with a bonus interview at the end.

Due to the responses I've received, I fixed the sync problem and moved one piece of video to the ending.
