I watch videos on Guitar World to get some entertainment or education. Kings of Leon are just presenting their shitty commercial music. And people who just say "Ah they're just doing the gay ass sweep arpeggios" are just noobs who think that everybody who does A-Minor pentatonics has a certain feeling in his guitar playing. That's bullshit! Everybody does boring pentatonic scales over and over again for fucking DECADES! It's always amazing to see how modern players developed lead playing!

Its a commercial process exactly like this that leaves artist creativity utterly redundant, and also in this case, zero guitar skills. Excellent observation by MultilatedMetalMatt (see comment below); this is hardly a lesson on how to play the song because there's nothing to teach.
@theillmc I think it's safe to say that pop music (= KoL) isn't the most technical genre in the world. I'm surprised to see a pop band do a lesson on GW, normally it's rock/metal. I reckon a lot of people watch this kind of thing as an interview, to see/hear their favorite band talk about music.

So basically Matt & Caleb, you went into the studio where this Jerry character has told you what to play and how to play it... no wonder the music you've churned out over the past four years has been rubbish. Its a commercial process exactly like this that leaves artist creativity utterly redundant, and also in this case, zero guitar skills. Excellent observation by MultilatedMetalMatt (see comment below); this is hardly a lesson on how to play the song because there's nothing to teach.

@theillmc I think it's safe to say that pop music (= KoL) isn't the most technical genre in the world. I'm surprised to see a pop band do a lesson on GW, normally it's rock/metal. I reckon a lot of people watch this kind of thing as an interview, to see/hear their favorite band talk about music.
That being said, I'm not a fan of KoL at all and this video definitely hasn't changed that.

It's official that most of Guitar World subscribers know nothing about music. Kings of Leon is simple, yet effective. I dig them and this video was for me, as well as their other fans. Don't ruin it for us.

I'm reading all this hate and then realizing that most of the people who hate on guitarworld and the rest of youtube are usually 12 year old metal addicts who are so closed minded and arrogant towards other genres of music. They need to realize that there is more to music than sweep arpeggios and distortion. I'm not a fan of KOL but I can appreciate their music and their art. I think other people need to understand that too.

Much like you I haven't found much appreciation in this kind of music, it's definitely not for me but I can appreciate their music for what it is. I just wish people would stop saying something is crap just because its main stream, almost like they are just trying to prove a point.
