GOOD IDEA. but , what i do is extract the streak from its holder . put it in the freezer for 30 mins, take it out and use a sharp knife/razor blade and cut perfectly down the middle. works everytime and u dont have to buy all these fancy lil home depot parts. saves money and time . and works.

This is dumb and way too complicated. Any self respecting writer should be able to eyeball a straight line down the middle of a streak and cut that shit in half. You can't find a 3 inch straight line you are gonna have trouble later, really, it's like cutting open a bagel.
