Nobody can fault Obama because he laid out his plan in detail (with nothing to hide). What other choice is there? You know in order for us to fix this economy there had to be some spending. . .(finishing a war that should have ended years ago, creating more job opportunities, natural energy, etc) All of these things cost money, but if you look forward about ten years alot of his program proposals will yield a better economy for America. There's a right way or there's a right now.

Obama said he would put his stimulus package online so we could review it. He didn't, until it was too late. He said he'd go through it line by line and not allow ANY earmarks. It's one big earmark. It has done nothing to "create or save" jobs (other than govt. jobs which we pay for with our tax dollars), nothing to make us energy efficient, nothing to encourage investors. It rewards bad behavior and bankrupts our grandchildren. That's about it. Yes, there was another choice - CUT TAXES.

I uderstand that (BTW there's NEVER been a perfect budget). $260 billion dollars of the stimulus package is left up to discretionary spending. I'm sure some of that may be "pork" as there has been earmark spending in almost every presidency. He placed a ban on it and I'm sure he'll continue to eliminate some of the unnecessary spending. I just think we should give him a little more than 4 months before we criticize him for DESTROYING our economy. Give the man a chance.

Trust me, alot of us are hurting right now, but think of it like this. I want my radio to work right now, but it's got too many problems. Do I keep fixing a broken radio with cheap parts that I KNOW is going to keep breaking OR do I exercise patience, go without music for a little while and invest in a beautiful new radio that always works. Yes, I think we will get to Mars and other places with private enterprise. Maybe not FIRST.. but certainly at some point. Hopefully NASA can build the highways (so to speak) to the Moon and Mars, so that private enterprise can take over. But private enterprise isn't "waiting" for NASA. They'll get to it eventually if NASA doesn't.

The govt. spending bucks on space is also for other reasons though - Natl. security, inspiring our kids with math/science/engineering, R&D, basic infrastructure, etc.

Starting in the Clinton administration, and continuing through the Bush administration, banks were forced by politicians to give out sub prime loans to people who couldn't possibly afford them. That caused the housing crisis.. it took 10 years or so to really bust, but it did, and that's precisely why. It has everything to do with politics. Politicians can't CONTROL the economy, no more than we can CONTROL the weather, but they can surely MEDDLE in it and send it off on strange trajectories.

When people have debt they need to simply work hard and pay it off. Or get an interest free loan from a good friend. Life aint' easy. And if govt doesn't take my money, I will be more willing to give it away freely and give out interest free loans to my friends in need. I do that anyway, letting roommates who have lost their jobs live here and catch up on rent later. But if I have to pay carter-style taxes, I'll have to think twice before I extend myself!

If the republicans were in charge, they would have passed their version of the bill -- basically lowering taxes by 20% for small business, and 5% for individuals. But more importantly, they would have given NON FEAR-BASED speeches. HOPEFUL speeches. It's ironic that HOPE was Obama's other slogan. He says the word "crisis" frequently in his speeches now. Yes, it would have gone differently, as in the market would not have crashed the way it has with every post-election Obama fear speech.
