  • I suppose its wondering what's this new creature it found. It seems quite social having come up that close for so long & not attacking

  • Unreal looking. I had no idea they exisited until I came across 3 diving in Okinawa! And one was at least a full meter! You can FEEL the intelligence when they are staring at you. One of my most amazing life experiences.

  • Cephalopods are from a meteor that came from a planet far far away.

  • Vanilla Paste! Vanilla Paste!

  • just beautiful

  • These were a good meter long.

  • How large were these animals?

  • Lol it looks like hes concentrating

  • Amazing video. By the way, that wouldn't happen to be a broadclub would it?

  • Wise Cthulhu has outgrown its need for a body and has commenced the take over of Youtube

  • outer space!!! definately

  • I thought that was Jean-Michel Jarre. I can't believe I was right on that.

  • Some great footage! Beautiful cuttlefish!

  • they seem very lazy looking and mean i wouldnt want to piss that off lol its magnificent

  • They Came from Outer Space!

  • CTHULU IS A CUTTLEFISH!!!!!

  • We look at it and think what a strange creature,it was looking at the diver thinking the same thing. They seem way more intelligent than a squid, they're territorial as well so when they've laid eggs they may not be as welcoming, also ppl if you catch one release it

  • Very neat animal. It's so graceful and controlled in it's movements.. Cuttlefish are the closest thing to aliens on planet earth. Imaging what it's thinking?!

  • Cuttlefish are so freaking cool I've wanted one since I was a kid. And yes all hail Cthulu, of course hailing him still means your gonna get eaten by him.

  • @Zephrim1022 dose it matter? people video tape them cause there cool not to ruin there natural habbitate so yea she sould chill out

  • I can imagine the cuttlefish with the deep voice of an old wise man spouting proverbs and wisdom to the divers. Am I crazy?

  • @THX1449 nah thats not crazy. Crazy would be seeing them dress up in suits and sing old Tom Jones hits. But I have always thought that they seemed so intelligent, its kind of erie.

  • you almost want to just reach out and shake its hand/tentacle...the way it floats there... it looks like all it wants to do is communicate... what wonderful and beautiful creatures...

  • Its not that big lol

    There really cool though :D

don't the ones deeper in the water glow or something??

  • @notsoordinary95

it is if you know cuttle fish

  • It's beautyful!

  • Creepy... yet cool... I don't know if it was because of the music or not but it reminded me of a wise old Asian man for some reason.

  • hahaha a wise old asian man

  • @MsKia0302 Wise old asian man indeed.

Confucious the Cuttlefish reads your mindz and you come in peace. Wat no snacks?

  • Giant ?

  • That's a big one! You are very lucky to have been able to get so close to one, he must have found you fascinating. He was showing some incredible colors and patterns for you! You're also lucky it wasn't breeding season or in a bad mood. For having no bones, they're surprisingly strong.

  • The music is annoyingly cool and trippy...

    Amazing creatures...

  • wow it looks so great

    nature is wonderful OMG

  • cool :) looks like he was fairly curious and needed a closer look lol. Cuddlefish are great :).

  • not so great when they attack u and eat u up! u dont wanna get too close to those things............

  • Cuttlefish eat small molluscs, crabs, shrimp, fish, octopuses, worms, and other cuttlefish I don't think they would change their diet just because we happen to be hangin round, plus all the junk us humans eat, it has to make us taste horrible haha ;)

  • but what if they like hamburgers and fries??? Will that make them change? I would change for that!!!!!!!!!

  • dont be stupid

i dont think a roughly 3 foot (give or take a few inches) Cuttlefish is capable of eating a 5+ foot human, not to mention they really cant hurt you in any significant way, welll....there is oen that could kill ya, but only if you were dumb enough to consume it, its a tiny breed, only 5 or 3-5 inches long i think, but they have the best colors of all Cuttlefish, the Flamboyant Cuttlefish! yes they are vewnomous but cant deliver a bite big enough to envenom you lol

  • cool!

  • When I look into those eyes I can't help the feeling that this is an intelligent creature staring back at me and it's just as curious about us as we are of it.

  • the cuttle fish learns to rip off your breather and swims off with it.

  • HOLY CRAP. I'm a cuttlefish and I think that's huge!

Who knows if he's cannibalistic? :x!!!

  • Cthulu! Cthulu! Chulhu fhtagn! Ei! Ei!

  • they dont look cuddley!

    XDXD

    theyre ugly

  • spearfishing

  • Boy they are curious aren't they?

  • Ooooo!!!! I LOVE Cephalopods! The Kraken!

  • Lord Cthulhu stops by for a chat.

  • Fantastic footage, could anyone tell me the name of the John Michel Jarre track?

  • Track sounds like a compilation of Jean Michel Jarre's Album "Oxygene".

    K.

  • Thanks!

  • so scary looking but yet so mysmerising...............

  • that's what an elephant looks like on Neptune =)

  • AMAZING! With this footage alone, I think there's an explanation to a few sea monster stories. The waving arms look almost ghastly.

  • Do not fuck with cephalopods!! Especially a cuttle fish big enough to eat you. That thing was totally sizing that diver up. Those creatures are shy, although super inquisitive.

  • you idiot, its not big enough to eat a human

  • what a sense of humor on you, ya douche bag. What possessed you to be such an asshole? Maybe it cant eat you, but do you want that thing chewing on your fucking leg? And certainly, I articulate myself well enough that by you calling me an idiot, most will come to the logical conclusion that your just a fucking retard. Good day sir, and I hope your parents kick you out of their basement.

  • no it isn't big enough for one of those to eat one of us. who says the cuttlefish has to eat everything it kills?

  • looks delicious ;)

  • do NOT fuck with that fish.. you have been warned

  • amazing footage and nice matching music, they look a bit elephant like, convergent evolution?

  • you fools, you've broken the seal!

The Great Old One is awake!

    IA! IA! CTHULHU! FHTAGN!

  • HAHAHAHA

  • I want to eat it!!SLURP!!

  • is the cuddlefish like a squid?

  • There are differences between cuttlefish and squid. Primarily it is the way they remain buoyant underwater. The cuttlefish uses a cuttlebone which it fills with gas to maintain it's buoyancy. The squid uses ammonia to help maintain it's buoyancy (because it is lighter than water) but mostly it has to continualy swim to maintain buoyancy.

  • @KneelingGoat but both are very good to eat:D

  • Absolutely amazing! What a great view you had of him. Maybe he was trying to communicate with you with his chromatophores. . . or maybe he was just waiting for you to put your camera/weapon down so he could attack! ;)

  • makes me think about intelligent aliens

  • zerznij kalmara!

  • This giant alien can eat your hands

  • An Alien

  • Pesky humans. You have angered mighty Cthulhu.

  • Comment removed

  • HAHAHA

  • @alexxmidnite chill out hippy

  • @toutz27 he aint no hippy he a gwar fan you have to be one to under stand

  • One of God's most trippest creatures,

good music btw, really matches the mystery to this fish.

  • yub thats gods work alright.

  • LEAVE THE POOR GUYS ALONE!!!!!

  • they have such sad eyes like all droopy

  • I want a cuttlefish big enough to ride on.

  • Is that Tangerine Dream? I can't quite place it.

  • Beautiful creature... You can see the curiosity and mutual understanding between the observers and the cuttlefish, like "You don't attack me, I don't attack you." Wonderful.

  • But how can this animal change its colour to a so brilliant blue?? What a phenomenon!

  • I agree: they don't mind if you you respect them!

  • I can really see them raising a tenticle saying "We come in peace." Awesome.

  • that is wild.

  • Oh yeah they are fascinating, I saw a kinda big one, or well actually morel like small, but there's not much big cuttlefishes ;)

  • Cthulthu lives! (Eek!)

  • All Hail Cthulthu!

  • what about the one in the cave

  • We can see the one in open water much better. He's posing for us. I love how the mantle undulates like belly dancer or a Spanish Dancer nubibranch.

  • totally magestic, great soundtrack, thank you gratefulgoat!!

  • I love these little angels!

So much so I've stopped eating calamari!

    ..I still eat squid though.

  • Incredible creatures need incredible music.

  • wheres the siphon? pls reply

  • is that shelter of that cuttefish is human made?

  • The shelter is the remains of a wreck of the Sydney coast line in 50+m of water

  • Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!

  • Beautiful, what wonderful creatures. Great music choice also. Thanks for uploading, good journey! :)

  • Ia, Ia, Cthulhu f'ghan

  • Now i know for sure where lovecraft got his ideas from

  • cuttlefish are very inquisitive. on one dive i had one following my torch light at night hunting

  • Amazing... it showed no signs of feeling threatened. It seems just as fascinated as the person filming, I cannot understand why the first thoght on halonood5 is to have a harpoon in hand? This only goes to show how hostile most of the human minds are.

  • Wow, just plain amazing. Cuttlefish really are a fabulous creature and I feel pity on those who feel the need to hate such a magestic wonder. Thank you.

  • Cephalapods are, hands down, the most incredible creatures on the planet!

  • I love those creatures more and more by the day. All that csience fiction and alien stuff is nothing in front of the cuttlefish. I could watch it all day long.

  • Wow. Nice. Remembers me of Dr. Soldberg from "futurama"

    lol

  • And this is the difference between animals and the human animal, halonood. You see a target they see a curiosity. Your first instinct is to shoot, right? Then I suppose that you won't get mad if an animals first instinct is to eat you or a loved one then? I believe that cuttlefish are more intelligent than most of our species, a little respect to those who came before us could go a long way to helping humans survive in the near future. By the way this a wonderful video. Great shots.

  • I love cephalopods. Cuttlefish are beautiful

  • I'm very fond of this video and have watched it seven or eight times. Very peaceful. The music matches the images nicely. & the second cuttlefish seems to be communicating with the diver, almost dancing. Thanks for posting it.

  • really spooky when the second cuttlefish suddenly appears in the distance :D

amazing creatures... i hope i'll can see them in real nature one day

  • THANK you so much, this video made my day.

  • Thank you to everyone who has posted a response in the last month. We've been traveling and haven't had a chance to visit the site. We are very encouraged that you like the video and really pleased that the comments are mostly respectful of this intelligent creature. Some of the reason the cuttlefish was so close was because the diver is on a rebreather (inspiration). With no bubbles the cuttlefish was curious and got very close. we find this with alot of our footage. Explore this amazing world!

  • i wanna ride one :D

  • HELL YEAH!!!

  • been diving all over the world and never saw one that big before so amazing

  • Sweeeet!

  • i wonder if they know they are increadable spectacles

  • I don't know how self-aware they are but some of them even use their color shifting tricks to hypnotize crabs before they grab them (to eat ^^) and use their tentacles to make weird visual patterns..

I can't find the vid on Youtube unfortunately.. I think it was a BBC doc.

  • the PBS program, Nova, did a program about the cuttlefish.

  • What a great experience. Cool, man and nature communing.

    Stu

  • wow i didnt even know giant cuttlefish existed....that is amazing.

  • absolutely huge!!!

im a scuba diver and ive never seen a cuttlefish that big, only an octopuss

but i bet u never saw a bloody hge manta ray on your first dive

  • Its so strange to see a marine invertebrate exhibit genuine curiosity like that, truly intelligent animals

  • Wow! amazing how close it let you get to it!! its like it was studying you too! wonderful that it didnt feel aggressive-it stayed nuetral! great footage-thanks for sharing!

  • absolutely amazing; what size is that cuttlefish about? I`ve heard they get up to 60 cm. I think I counldnt resist reaching my hand out - well, he looks to be curious too. they are said to have a high developed eyes and have a big brain as well....I like it most when it appears behind the ship and get floating closer, its like a extra-terrestrian meeting.

  • Nice video, I love how the music changes when the second cuttlefish comes in. What song is that you've mixed in there? It's very suitably alien for a creature so mysterious and alien to us...how they can change shape and color and seem to glow...amazing. This video is very nice and trippy, drugs or no, none required.

  • Wonderful video!

    Ignore jerkoff Republicans

    who refer to eating them.

    -Cowboylips

  • Strangest haiku ever, but good point.
