Why shouldn't she say it? It's a fact that any filing on the nail plate is damaging. When you have to file off any product you have applied to the nail you can be as careful as you want...you are still going to strip some of the nail...the less filing the better. Besides filing, acid free gel is better for enhancements, acrylic's although improved are still harsh chemical wise on the nails.
@Peachess1965 Yes very true.. any filing will weaken the natural nails. And soak off gels still require a long time to soak off ... especially if you have had the product on for longer than a month.. it can take up to 1 hr or longer to soak off. I hate when these soak off gels claim that you can soak off in half an hour or less (its a lie). I've worked with both soak off, builder gels, hard gels , soft gels.. they all weaken the nail when you file it . However soak off is more forgiving at times
@Peachess1965 and yes acrylics are very full of chemicals. MMA was banned in Europe but America still uses it and that is a harmful and damaging chemical that reacts with peoples skin but techs use it because it helps the acrylic dry faster and grip to the nail better. (at what cost though, when women get bad reactions or loose their fingers). Gels are easier on nails ,and no smells , more flexible etc but some gels have acid bases too that can cause harm too. People just need to do the research
@annasbeautysecrets Exactly...but actually most of our Hair & Nail Industry in the USA is over seen by each State instead of the Federal Gov. There are alot of States that ban the use of MMA...peronally, I wouldn't use it even if it was allowed here. I perfer acid free gels. I also think that the gel should be removed from the nail at the very least every 3 months & fresh gel applied. But that is just me :-)
@Peachess1965 I used nothing but acid free gel in my salon for over 8 years. I hate the way acrylics smell and they damage the nail so much.. I mean gels do to but I agree with removing them every 3 months and starting fresh...
