This song is about beating depression sans medication, for those who don't know. Craig Minowa, the lead vocalist and lyricist said it himself, it's about doing some serious introspection and beating your inner demons in your darkest time. Cloud Cult does some seriously amazing introspective songs.

Well, rough outlines should definitely be possible. For example, take a good book, or series. Err... A series of unfortunate events, by Lemony Snicket. The plot is quite simple, if you cut out the writing style, character complications, etc.. You'll end up with about this:

Three siblings lose home and parents, evil madman is after the money the parents left and does anything to get it.

I don't know, but even you could think that up in less than five minutes, likely with more detail than that.
