  • The part I always hated about this scene is the fact that he didn't try to play it off as if he spoke English as well. That always irritated me a bit.

  • mc donnald should of said thank you in french and where were they going on that bus.

  • mc Donald failed and that the German officer who believed Bartlett was a Wehrmacht officer and that bartlett was not known by the Wehrmacht.

  • @englishguy2010 Haha yes but honestly the germans annoy me soo much in this film.they have nothing to do in their "precious" time than running after those americans/britons ?! they should search hobbies honestly!have they never heard of facebook or twitter ?! oh wait they hadnt ;D ok haha Omg if i was there in that scene it would be like -> me :"ommmmg !!! the german gestapo officer just wished "good luck" to somebody in english ! :O HE IS ENGLISH! RED ALERT! thats how u win time by confusing

  • @20Kristina09 - Hahahahaha......I think the war would've gone slightly differently if German prison camp guards had sat around making model aircraft, knitting jumpers and playing tennis instead of ensuring the Americans and Brits stayed inside the camp :P

I think perhaps you don't know much about the war haha. You're funny ;) x

  • @englishguy2010 :DD But soon i will know much about history coz i applied for studying it in Scotland ! I love Scotland !! I´ve been there in 2010 I didnt want to go back to Munich ! I even thought of running away ^^ but I was still 17 in 2010 thats why I behaved like a good gigrl and went back home :3 do you have facebook?

  • @20Kristina09 - Well I do hope you get to study in Scotland =) I am very much into history too, so maybe one day you can teach me something I don't know haha. So you thought about running away from Germany? I don't blame you haha. If you try to run away from here, I will shout "DEUTSCHLANDER!" and then run after you. Then I'll give your passport to the local police, who will come after you too :P

As for Facebook, yes I do have it =) x

  • @englishguy2010 how dare u and hahahahahahahah omg you wrote "deutschlander " but deutschlander doesnt mean german ... german means " Deutscher" ...Deutschländer on the other hand is a sausage ;DDDD why would u and the local police run after a sausage haha fail ;D "Good Luck" to you all by doing it ! xD

  • @20Kristina09 - Hahahahaha....FAIL!!! So I would basically be shouting "SAUSAGE!" then?? Oh I say! How funny is that hahahaha. That's twice I've been a stupid brain today! It's YOUR fault! :P

    "SAUSAGE!" *runs after you* xx

  • "Your arms... up!"

  • Just before 2.20 the rooftop panorama with Roger in the foreground has at least one TV aerial in it. Tsk, schoolboy error.

  • But how did the gestapo take his identity card in the first place, because at 00:33 he gives them back,to both of them?

  • So what was actually said in French at 00:26? I can't make it out.

  • Longest shop name in the world on the side of that building at 1:01.....

  • @No1BookReviewer hahaha ja ;D fail ! "Innenausstattungsgeschäft " today its simple ..its " IKEA !!! " ;D

  • HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH OMG LMFAO " ach sie sind Deutscher ?? " -" ach sebstverständlich ???!!!! oO" :)

  • LOOOOOOL EPIC FAIL XD

  • It's really kind of silly, isn't it? It is clear that the Gestapo men suspected them. They wouldn't have bothered trying to trip them up; they would have just hauled them in. Fun scene, of course, but it's a bit absurd. :)

  • @eskikindi Not necessarily, or they'd be hauling in half the civilian population all the time. Thorough though they were, I'm sure the Gestapo had beuarocratic and man-power limitations like any organization, and their prison space was finite. Who, knows the Gestaop officer might have tried that trick on every person he checked as a matter of course.

  • Simply awesome!!! Thanks!

  • @VanillaSugar121 Translation of what he is saying to the guard: "Me, an Englishman? You are threatening me with a gun?! Put that away at once!" - "Oh, you're German?" - "Of course!" - "It's ok, move on, we're sorry." And then they leave him alone. He gets away quite easily there... :-P

  • Ever since I watched this scene I've never taken public transport...

  • your '''hounds''' up! LOL XD

  • What's a bit silly from 2:31 is that even through Roger is speaking in German, he is pretty much ordering the patrol to fuck off even though he's meant to be a civillian. Wouldn't he have been arrested for that at least?

  • Hahahaha.....oh that made me laugh lol. Yeah I see your point. It appears as though the patrol are leaving him alone simply because he's (apparently) a German. That wouldn't have happened. This guy is meant to be so well known to the Gestapo and the SS, plus the Gestapo guy from the bus hands Rogers identity card to the SS man in the car - the same SS man who stops Roger.

  • @sephjnr the patrol is on a hurry looking for the guy, so if they think thy made a mistake stopping a german civilian... yes, they would let him go

  • @felixuko87 see VanillaSugar's reply below - he's being disrespectful *just* short of being insulting.

  • @sephjnr Hahahaha YES !!! omg the germans are sooo fail ;D they wouldnt have to kill me if they want .. i d die of laughing because of them so YAY oh haha im so stupid i just realized that i am german!! haha fail ;D Im so stupid xDDD

  • they so nearly pulled it off. What a wally, what an absolute wally!

  • Totally! In reality, the two men (Roger Bushell and a French guy) made it to the border and were stopped at a checkpoint. They actually made it THROUGH the checkpoint after the guards let them pass, but - as the movie depicts, a guard shouted "Good luck!" to which the French airman replied.......in English! That's when they were captured. Still, the movie version is a little more exciting lol.

  • I'm here from watching the German Version of the Numberwang Mitchell and Webb sketch :)

  • @callumrocksyoursocks Hehehe - goes to show how much this scene resonates in the British culture if we can still get people coming back to this classic :D

  • every time i watch this scene i will them to keep stchum, but they never do, the fools

  • Hahaha...me too! This is what you get when you hire Gordon bloody Jackson to act in your movies! Everyone gets caught!! Damn him!!

  • It is a great scene...

  • Bloody Gordon Jackson!! Attenborough was bright enough to keep talking in French, but Jackson failed!! Damn you Gordon Jackson! Damn you to HELL!
