I was 8 years old rocking out to Kraftwerk in 1981!!! Thanks to Brett. My sisters high school sweetheart who brought a tape back that summer shaping surf boards in Japan! Thanks for expanding my taste in music! I slam dance just as hard to Slayer as I do Daft Punk!!! Kraftwerk is sooo kind!
They are talking about something that was before it's time Computer online dating in my opinion or perspective I see it as. It is so amazing I love how they made the music so perfectly on the good old synthesizer they really put it to work!
Damn. The end, beginning at around 4:09, sounds like a live band to me. It sounds to me like a real tight, grooving jazz or funk band when the rhythm section really lays in and the guitar player or keyboardist just starts riffing. I cant describe it, but it give me goosebumps. You know youve succeeded musically when people of any age, of any place and of any time period can find joy in your music. I think this song achieves that.
@radicalbro1 re: "the end", you're spot on, and it is what i've always thought about this song, ever since my oldersister bought The Model back in 1981 and it was on the b-side. the only thing is, "the end" for me starts at around 3:15 when the rhythm kicks it up a notch. it's a beautiful choon still, and coldplay did worse to it than covering it, homage or not. Florian etc. should have insisted that mister paltrow call his song "computer love".
@radicalbro1 Yes, most people might find this music "cold", but it's really a grooving dance song that TUGS at your heartstrings!!! ACHING not cold and distant!!
@veridical1 On the contrary, they wrote a letter to the guys at Kraftwerk asking if it's ok to borrow the melody from computer love for their album. They got a reply saying yes. So yeah, coldplay didn't rip off kraftwerk per se since they asked permission first.
I love this band and the song is sublime. Everyone once in a while you get a band or an artist that really changes things, and this is one of them. BTW If you like this check out my music, it has a similar kind of vibe.
This song is surely about phone sex with an automated response line!
