First of all, Skyrim is Amazing, Ive just started playing and yea its always good to have a companion, but it does get frustrating when they dont follow you or u have to wait for them or they get lost... haha ah well you just deal with it, an extra sword can save your life!

Why not try using a desktop tripod, like the Gorillapod, to hold onto instead of the camera itself? While I was still going to college, i did the same thing for looking for the cheapest deal for each book per class.

I use Marcurio, he is overpowered but entertaining ! You quick travel somewhere, and 3 seconds later you are hearing Marcurio shooting lighting bolts everywhere because he saw a dragon 10 miles away. And you are like "Hey dude I am supposed to be the one killing dragons !". Or he gets stuck in a trap where flames are coming out from the ground, and stands there saying "I don't feel anything!"... He's a nice pack mule too, even if he doesn't like it.

I play Skyrim with a companion, I like having one around to help in battles and to carry extra stuff so I'm not weighed down, then I just go sell all the armor and stuff that I'm not using for gold. It can get a bit annoying because they have a hard time keeping up when I'm running around and exploring but I like having someone around.

Portal & Portal 2 are the only games I've played since Descent 3 back in the '90s. So I'm companion-free. GLaDOS is more of an adversary and Wheatley's just a nuisance. ;)

I appreciated the replies, and as comments increase from hundreds to the thousands, replies will naturally become more sparse. There's only so much time in a day.

But you and your vlogs are great! One suggestion, see if your camera records in widescreen/16:9 instead of 4:3 to lose the black bars on the sides of the videos.

I like to have Lydia around in Skyrim. She deals a good amount of dmg and come always handy as a mule. and once you know how to move, so she doesnt block the doorframe, everything is fine.

For the books: just make a cart with all the books on every website (multible tabs) and than compare or even use a excl spreadsheet.

Whether or not I use companions in a game will depend on how annoying their AI is and how useful and entertaining they are... usually no, but sometimes it's fun. For instance companions in the new Star Wars MMOG are pretty awesome.

When I play Skyrim and stuff like that I never use a companion. I find it easier to play if they aren't there and I never want them to die. Yeah I'm weird like that, I really don't want them to die. So no you aren't alone in that idea; I might be alone in mine though.

Diablo II certainly, the companion was very useful, but also immune to friendly fire and could be resurrected. Fallout 3/Skyrim, they charge ahead and more often than not, I end up shooting them in the back, so I don't use them... at least not after my first one died.

Oh, and about companions in video games. The only game of that type that I've ever played is Fallout 3. And in that game I didn't use a companion because when I wasn't playing it, my brother was, and he used a companion, so I was able to see first hand that the companion in that game was more likely to get in the way or slow you down than he was helpful.

Textbooks. Use a spreadsheet. Go to school bookstore site. Find ALL books and put details (incl. new and used prices) on sheet. Use new columns for each other site. Add a column for shipping. Order online, then print the list and take to campus store. :) It's how I got my BA summer 2011, and I only shopped Amazon at the end.
