i was looking long and hard for the large street sign that blocks the camera view in the zapruder's film, at the time the first shot hits jfk in the neck: DID NOT SEE IT. i didn't expect to see it, either.

This guy came up to me on our family trip to Dealey Plaza. He started with "I dont want anything from you guys, just want to give you a little history story of what happened". then after he finished, he asked for some cash. I told him we hand none since we were on vacation, only carry debit cards, and the guy wanted to walk me over to an atm to pull money out. What I never knew, though, was that the motorcade was supposed to go down main street, but lbj somehow changed the route to elm street

The guide does make a good point that making those two turns did in fact slow the motorcade down too much putting the President at risk and changing the route as well, and I did not know that Woody Harrelson's father was behind the fence area at that time. Why the assassins chose Dealey Plaza as the place to assassinate JFK it was just too public a place really - numerous witnesses, cameras rolling, media there, CIA Secret Service and police present etc., clear sunny day: a brazen take-down.

@epsloan1 - also, in Texas Law at the time, IF a capital crime is assumed to be perpetrated by a single person, then it can be handled locally rather than federally. Some people have suggested that this fact contributes to why the assassination took place in Dallas rather than in all the other open areas where JFK could have been shot.

I was 6 years old when JFK was assassinated. To say I was anything less than obsessed with it, even from a young age would be an understatement.

I have read everything I could get my hands on, listen to every conspiracy theory, watched every version of the assassination film, and not to mention 3 trips to Dealey Plaza. I can't say who did it or why, but I will say nothing makes more sense than that final bullet coming from the Grassy Knoll. You have to see it understand why.

I don't know WHO changed the route, but I do understand WHY the route changed. Main, Elm and another street all converge at the underpass. Elm Street is the only way to access the north bound Stemmons Freeway. To this day, you still can't access north bound Stemmons from Main Street without jumping over a median and crossing Elm Street.

Why is it a big deal? Because a Presidential parade route has been planned out long before a motorcade makes it way. That barrier didn't just "pop-up" but it was a great excuse to make a last minute change to the route.

@ifilmMrDave I agree. I just got back from Dealey Plaza and I saw him and some other scum bags trying to push their lies on people. They came up to me once and I was not going to play. I hung out there for hours. Everyone should visit there but watch out for those people. They are usually there when the 6th floor museum opens at 10.

Everybody's got their own ideas and speculations, but the only thing we know is what the films show us. When JFK gets hit in the head, it seems like it came from behind and high up, at least with the graphic action that is witnessed. I personally think it was just Oswald by himself. Excellent video. I visited Dallas from UK a few weeks ago simply to tour the Depository museum which was superb.

Despite how many years ago the assassination took place it felt, whilst standing by the grassy knoll as though it might have been yesterday.
