@paloma598 A one hour special I saw once when I was 8 clipped down to 30 minutes, it was so strange to watch because you did not get what it's about by how they edited it. It would start like a normal season 2 monkees episode then they put together only the monkees parts from this show and ended it with the end credits of the real final episode of the monkees. I'm guessing it was Clipped together by CBS to fill as a extra episode for Saturday morning reruns. I have the VHS now.
When I first saw this special, I was 10 and I didn't know what was going on! Looking back, I can understand why they felt the need to poke subversive fun of those "under TV's thumb" days although nobody put a gun to their "heads" and forced them to do be Monkees even after the series was just a memory.
@cozener1 They did a few subversive records. Check out "Ditty Diego / War Chant" or the original lyrics of "Mommy And Daddy". Or all the songs on "Pisces Aquarius Capricorn & Jones Ltd" about drugs, groupies, underage sex etc.
33/1/3 With the Monkees I believe....their last hurrah....some T.V. special back in 1970. Singing about being manipulated in the music industry...not having artistic expression. They should just be happy that they passed their audition and became what they were.
Proto-DEVO! The Monkees, as usual, were there first!
