AMS uses a Shepherd Racing Dogbox Transmission. AMS is still a manually shifted car. This car might as well be an Automatic. STM has the record by .002 seconds.
@tommi6 Last time the AMS drag car was on the track it pulled a 8.422. It went into 4th gear with a broken rocker/down a cylinder. Was still able to set a record. The AMS Drag car went to the texas mile and caught on fire and took the 4cyl record. Before they ran the turbo setup was changed and they made more HP on less boost. AMS still uses a human shifted H pattern transmission. AMS never has that car on kill tune either. They always seem to have headroom.
@TravisB7552 agreed... but you also have to realise that this car is also not at its full potential and we also have pretty crap strips. If Dave, Andre and the STM crew can get this car to OZ with some bigger wheels and possibly more boost the time will be very very good....
I think the JR Motorsports Evo 8 will be another one to watch out for...
@tommi6 :) AMS just put a new turbo kit on their drag evo. If i recall correctly they made around 1400WHP on moderate boost for the texas mile. Should be an interesting year.
BTW. The driver needs to slow down more and not pull the chute so early or hes going to kill himself.
I guess I did not think about that... I wonder why AMS has not put more effort into actually racing that car in the last 18 months (busy as shit one would think!)
For the air shifter, Is the main difference shift speed? or more than just that??

I don't even see him flapping paddles so I'm guessing it auto shifts. Also this car goes through four gears where AMS uses the five of the stock style tranny.
I'm not sure if AMS is planning to get back in to drag racing. They keep really busy with time attacks and road racing, and it seems that has been Martins main focus the last year and a half or so.
No matter what trans this evo is running, or how many gears it uses to run the 1/4m, it should fuel AMS to run their neglected dragevo that still has not been run to its potential.

Their drag8 is nutty, and has had room to grow for years..

Which car? This one has a dogbox and an auto air shifter that is apparently controlled by Dave with a button, they have stated it and aren't scared to mention anything about the car. AMS on the other hand just mention the fact that they have a shep transmission... IIRC they mentioned that it was a dogbox or they were going to a dogbox. I wouldn't be surprised either way. Nothing is taken away from either company and it is advancing the ever evolving Evolution.

not auto shift.. It has a button situated on the steering wheel. Dave uses his thumb to switch gears.

You're right. David hits the button to change gears. The class we run in requires that each gear change be a function of the driver.
