I love this video and I always encourage parents to teach their children to sign so the child can communicate their needs. Parents with deaf children who won't teach their child how to sign are missing out on a lot. Keep up the great work!!!
So cute and so good to teach babies sign language so they express their needs before they can talk clearly! I'm definitely going to invest in a sign language program for when after my son is born. It'll be really good for my lip-reading husband to learn too since his hearing is going south again and he never learned sign language growing up. This way if he happens to go completely deaf at least our son and I will still be able to communicate with him.
Cute video!! However, it really bothers me when parents in general thinks it is okay for their hearing children to learn sign language but not for their Deaf children..
@Deaf258 I agree fully! Have you seen The Greatest Irony by Amy Cohen Efron? It talks about your concern exactly. I think all parents with hearing and Deaf children should watch it!
I am a college student currently taking an ASL course. To watch a Very young girl signing the same things that I have just learned is beyond amazing! What a great family
I am about to get married myself and I am about to start talking classes on sign language I am very excited to start my family and have my children as well rounded as your daughter.
I don't know much sign language any more but I was happy to see the "I Love You" at the end of the video... I haven't forgotten everything apparently :) I'd love to pick it up again.
That is AWESOME! This is the first time I have seen ASL done by someone at such a young age. I started learning ASL 2-3 years ago and love it. GREAT JOB FIREESE!!
you have a really smart child, with a mum like u who wldnt be. All the Mums uv inspired and are teaching their kids sign language, its just the coolest thing. Bless u
SHE IS A BABY GURU ALSO! I AM SO SPEECHLESS, NEVER SEEN IT LIKE THIS BEFORE, I HAPPEN TO SCAN THROUGH YOUTUBE AND SEEN THIS VIDEO, IM GLAD I SAW IT LOL!!
You are an amazing mother! i'm a Coda and i'm very happy that you baby knows sign language...I didnt have to take any foreign language in HS because i passed a test for ASL and ASl is REAL language..So if she keeps it up, she wont have to take an extra class in HS..Smiles..best of luck with you and your beautiful, intelligent daughter....God Bless!
Just watched this little angel video when she was a little (1 yr), can't believe she grow up now. Become smarter and cuter. Great tips and Very NICE Video. I Like it...
By the way, your video a year ago of Fireese at 11 months, is why I kept up with teaching my little one. You and Fireese single-handedly inspired us and now Cecily has 400 some signs and is learning her letters (knows about 1/2 of them) at 17 months. The ability to communicate with her at such a complete level so early is priceless, and your first little clip started it all.
What is also awesome about her signing from a young age.... More and more schools are accepting ASL as a foreign language requirement.... I am taking it now at the University of Northern Iowa....
You are right, she's not deaf. We started signing with her for communication reasons before she could speak. Now we continue because it is a great second language to have. Plus, we have deaf friends and would like for her to be able to talk with them.
@SmartHandsCA My Pastor's wife's dad is a preacher and they have a deaf ministry, also my mom's Pastor's wife has a deaf ministry as well. I can't wait to show her the videos of your daughter. From birth I had no hearing in my left ear but my right ear is perfect, it would be good to learn sighn language even if I never lost hearing in my right ear.
so cute! love 00:23 sec! you've done a great job at teaching her and a great mommy. I love her name. where did you hear it? how old is she now? are you gonna add anymore videos of her?
you've definitely done a great job educating your little girl, she seems to be so smart and the best thing is that she looks like she's is enjoy learning...congratulations for such a cute daughter! and keep up the good work
Your Little Girl is So Lovely , shes so smart and your amazing for teaching her so young shes going to be a really intelligent girl when shes older its obvious because of how quickly she picks things up x
hi i was wondering if she deaf or hearing because im deaf too .i learn sign laguage 3 or 4yr ago it hard to learn because i grow up speaking spanish and english
That's awesome. I try and sign songs in the car, it's not as easy as she makes it look :)
I've finished ASL 4 in college and she is well on her way to being a genius. Keep in mind you people watching this, she knows 2 languages at 2 years old. Thats a language per year she's been alive ;)
You have the MOST prodigious and cutest daughter I have ever seen! It's brilliant she has been signing before being able to speak and communicate AND explain ("horse is U-shaped") at such a young age!
my case of no sound card zooms in on this nicely. I can see the effort of child being incorporated through another learning level. instead of just trying to catch up to ears with tongue incapable as articulating gestures help first. so sort, follow intense need of youngster getting understood rather than bypassed in confusion until grown up communication per se. this is as experience of a person, that scope of paying attention to espression/frame 'words.' expressiveness is heightened obviously.
Not only you are teaching your daughter some really valuable skills, but you are raising a beautiful child who will be able to connect with hearing and deaf people as a natural thing.
Beautiful!
P.S. I´m learning sign language and my girlfriend is deaf, but it´s taking me longer to learn since I´m not a child sponge anymore! =)
