I presume you realise that Jobs ripped off the Xerox Alto in '79 for their "GUI" interface for the Lisa and Mac.. True, Xerox lacked the vision required to commercialise it. Dont get me wrong, I love Apple. Jobs was genius, if not cantankerous. But the perception that Gates "needed" Jobs, or Jobs "made" Gates is very misguided. Granted, Gates "borrowed" the GUI idea from Apple, and then messed it up with "Windows 1" - but he was already writing sw for both MAC & PC.

I'm not happy he passed. But the guy was more of a marketing expert than a tech pundit. And I even owned some of the 1st apple's and was a fan.. I found him annoying because while he made some contributions, he greatly exaggerated and deceived a young generation into thinking he's a "visionary", by using conditioning and hypnosis skills in an effort to get people to link their dreams to the apple logo. Just got finished reading Isaacson's biography of Jobs. He was indeed one of a kind; not always the most endearing character to come down the road but his dedication to perfection was totally focused. He made wonderful products and he knew what we wanted before we even knew it.

He lived at the intersection of art with technology. Requiescat in pace.

If he were so good with technology, the iMacs wouldn't have been nearly 2 years behind the PC in terms of technology. i7 came more than a year after PC had them. Then they wanted about $2000 for their i7 mac which was still slower than a $700 pc with i7, due to it having better parts/settings etc
