why are so many people asking why connor killed mikes family and tried to kill mike? watch the earlier part of the movie when connor shoots that guy in the head at the warehouse. its obvious that connor was behind stolen booze and not the guy they had the funeral for. so connor was trying to kill the witnesses, which was mike and micheal. but connor was insane and a drunk, so he killed the wrong kid. jealousy plays a role in connors insanity, but it wasnt his motive for killing
This is a pretty rockin' movie, but i do think that the music is pretty much carrying the mood, which isn't a bad thing, but i dunno if i'd like the movie as much or care as much about the plot if it was without its soundtrack.
I found a few variations of the song "King Porter Stomp", the best two are by Benny Goodman and then the closest one, I think is Bob Crosby and his Orchestra.
I don't understand why the Academy overlooked this film, It was amazing and a real eye opener to real movies. I went from watching shit like camp rock to this. I am glad this movie exist, if not I'd still be watching fucking hannah montana
@Pentagon1311 It's the "King Porter Stomp" by Jelly Roll Morton (1923) which originally is a piano piece. This version is jacked and pumped and I've looked everywhere for it. There is no mention of the band used to perform it in the scene, nor is it in the film's soundtrack or score. This one stays with you for a long while. Jelly Roll's version is really a great one. This song was also used in "Public Enemies" during the coat room scene between Dillinger and Freschette. Popular tune.
@redk1994 I agree, when i first heard this i kept playing those ten seconds over and over again, too bad this version of the song is not available. :(
@americanjedi77 Shooting women and children doesn't make someone less of a man to me. Shooting women and children tells me that this here is a person with ice cold water running through his veins for he is willing to destroy what we as a society value as sacred and innocent. Killing the innocent and defensless is the mark of a devil, not a coward, for a coward wouldn't have even concieved of such a plan. He's a monster.
The critics can SUCK MY DICK. This is the best movie Tom Hanks has ever played in. What a great movie of vengeance and just... a great flick. Fuck the critics, hacks.
Every single phrase...every movement...every sentence...every word in this movie has the deepest meaning! It really does follow that saying : "You can't judge a book by it's cover". I'M LOVING THIS MOVIE!!!!
Well if you think about it he did pull his weapon when Mike went to shoot Mr. Calvino with the intention of killing Mike. All these guys mixed up in this industry are bad. I don't know if he would be a contract killer like Mike was if he ever got hired, but it still doesn't make him a good guy if he works for Rooney :)
question: what is the deal with "the letter". Is it implied that it was an order from the higher ups or did that crazy son of the boss take it on himself to do this?
If you watch part 4, Connor says his dad "Forgot" to give him the letter. He never had a letter signed, he never wanted Mike killed. Connor wanted to impress his father by killing Mikes family and having Mike killed by the guy at the bar who got the letter, therefore sealing Mikes son from telling anyone about witnessing the murder at the factory.
he didn't really want to impress his father. he wanted to kill Michael jr. since he thought that mike would tell about him killing Fin. John Rooney wouldn't of approved of Connor killing Sullivan's family at all
damn there not even brothers but he feels that his old man has a bond with michael than him where any guy would be screwed in the head with overcome by jealous but still he shouldn't have killed the wife N kid they had nothing to do with it wut a asshole.
like hanks would not have a strong enough hand to control the fam.............besides best hits are done by singles..why let some one who the cops could leverage know shit
I love that scene. The whole way Sullivan reads the body language, followed the guy's eyes to reveal the gun, and manages to take them both out without batting an eye.
FUCK THE CRITICS! This is a really really really good movie, this should at least win more oscars, like alot of oscars like the same amount of oscars given for the Godfather Part 2.
Connor hated Mike because he felt that John (Paul Newman) loved Mike more. He was jealous. He killed the mother and the other son b/c he thought the other son was the one that saw what Mike Jr. saw.
Well that and he's just fucking crazy, paranoid. I don't know that he was jealous of Mike. But anyone with any sense could have deduced that Michael (the son) would never have told anyone what he saw. Even if he did, it wouldn't have mattered much in those days, that mob ran the town and the 4/5 of the police were probably on the take, if not all of them.
No ones got no dough but all the worlds here wasting it....always money for thrills a twist and never money for food...

For all those who are searching for it...
I think the sound in the club it's a particular version of "King Porter Stomp" by Benny Goodman.
If you listen to the final part of the original song they are nearly identical.
