@Drummer14all He only made his drum kit smaller becuase of the Alice in Chains drummer. Lars was at Jerry Cantrell's house having a jam session and he was playing on Sean Kinney's drum kit which was a scaled down version of his. He liked it better and changed his drum kit to match Kinney's soon as he got back to the studio.

I'm gonna get hate for this, I know, but for however good Lars is as a drummer, he really does lack tonal dynamics. So many of their songs could be improved by switching to ride when needed but he just rapes that hi-hat 24-7. Let's him and the band down a bit in my opinion. Tender treble-ended solos often require soft treble-ended ride work and plenty of fast parts can be improved in the same way. Anyway just my take.

In the the rock and roll buisness especially (metal) your drums can sound however they want. If the tone sounds good to you then it sounds good. It's all about personal preference. And, Lars' kit sounds good in every album up to the black. It's the sound he wanted. Don't compare him to John Bonham or Lenny White because they're not even the same style or genre. Prick ;)
