I'm fourteen years old, but i am proud to say that everytime I watch a movie like this, not only am I inspired to push through the hard times in life, but to smile at misfortune, find the bright side of everything, never to look down upon, but to help up. "Your life is an occasion, rise to it," is a very important quote in my life. It is true, you will never have another life, this occasion happens only once, make the most of what you have and make miracles happen. Let yourself love,
@CountryGirlColby And do not be afraid to let go of the loved, for your occasion has been made all the grander by them. And just remember one day when you've touched as many hearts and left as many miracles as you could behind you, that it took Shakespeare, a genious bard, to write 'He died' and hope you can say the same.
Dustin Hoffman is amazing! He plays this part to the letter! This scene is probably my favorite scene of any movie! It is so true! Amazingly done! Makes me tear up every time!
this has to the most moving scene ever. most people who just watch the scene itself wont say so but just mr.m says its events preceeding it that mad this scene so sad.
This is such a great movie. I must agree that people like mr magorium help us know that life is a gift and that we should spend every moment of it. This movie really touched me like no other movie ever has.
When we last see Mr. Magorium's face with a big grin it always makes me bawl :( but a happy bawl knowing that he died happily after living a great life. this movie got bad reviews but we need more movies like mr. magorium to remind us that life is short & we have to live every second of it :)
You know what, I have a problem with that opinion. How can you say this tear jerker is boring? I love this movie, and I don't understand what the critics don't like about it, it is a very good story line, and it is very true, a good way to deal with death, and I plan on using the qoute in this description at my Grandfathers funeral.
He's supposed to be the most eccentric person in the world... He's supposed to be odd, seriously... And the toy store is not supposed to be some huge wonder. Your the type of person, from what I've read, who thinks that bigger is better. I think you saw the store as gray through the whole movie, because you didn't believe in it...
@lawrencelugar7777 it's just a movie.....don't you know a lot of oddballs like Dustin's character???? And, no, I disagree with you. Any bigger of a story and any more elaborate and it would have seemed absurd. How could you make it any more magical that it already was????
Too may people criticize this movie for being depressing because one of the characters knows when he is going to die. What they don't mention is how at peace he is with dying. How many of us hope we can be like this when our time comes?
My Grandpa is probably dieing soon... And we are probably going to use this quote when it comes time to speak... Probably get the whole lot hysterical in tears...
@dharmaseed This is not a depressing movie. If people think it's depressing, they have missed the point. This scene describes the meaning behind the movie. I want it played at my funeral some day.
its a great death just like his life. Reminds me of the many time si saw fellow soldiers die in the battlefield, no fanfare, no parades, no celebrations, just death. Not for anger for pride or glory, for the respect and love of human life
What was their problem with Istanbul? "Constantinople, not Istanbul". It had nothing to do with the movie! If that was their judgment about the history, then they should better leave the America to Indians. It was just unnecessarily provocative!
This was the most powerful scene in the film. It is a great film, even for a family film. The only way it could have been more powerful is if Mr.Magorium had given Mahoney some comfort lines, such as, "You're sad because our friendship makes you happy."
We're so used to grown-ups making kids movies look childish to other grown-ups, we've forgotten how powerful our childhoods can be; how important those early moments are. A kid's movie never needs to be "childish," it can be a reminder of wonder, and of uncolored fun.
please say this isnt a kids movie. I mean im watching it right now, its only at the beginning buts its fucking creepy! Although i am baked.

Dustin Hoffman is not the right lead for this role - he just comes off as a weird oddball.
And the toy store, it could have been more elaborate and magical - it's small and half-ass.
