@Kamensky93 Actually central figure in Three Kingdoms had always been Cao Cao as He was the most ambiguous character in all of Chinese history, sometimes bad, sometimes good, sometimes brutal, sometimes merciful, sometimes smart and other times stupid. He was one of the most talented poet and military strategist at the time. Liu Bei was quite uneducated and he got lucky because Zhu Ge Liang only saw career opportunities with him as Cao Cao's government was already filled with talented people.

i grew up speaking mandarin but i am illiterate in chinese and most of the language used is too articulate for me. one of the few times that i wished my chinese was better... *sigh*

Our neighborhood Chinese store has a few waitress&waiters who speak naive Chinese, albeit with a Taiwan accent, so if you could only read and speak colloquial Chinese, but can't write&read a thing in Chinese. I'd not blame you as, you know, environment dictates how much you learn, anyhow, loads of dialogue of this show was taken directly from the original novel, which, I assume you know, is not how contemporary Chinese talk. so, don't sweat it.

@eatfastnoodle what luck... there is an ongoing english subtitle translation by jiang hu fansub group for the 2010 remake of the three kingdoms tv series! i have screened the first episode, and it is great! everything is carefully translated, from the dialogue to the signs atop doors.
