Was there wit 3 other friends. 1st time at concert. OFF DA HOOK!Seen the videos being posted all over. didn't know video cameras were allowed. FUDGE! should have taken mines.lol. Was drinkin alot. 2nd band was good. sounded like THE DOORS.
That was honestly the most mind-fucking-blowing show i've ever seen in a WHILE! My dad was there and he said hes never seen ANYONE play guitar like that since Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin when he saw them in the early 70's! They were INCREDIBLE!
WS were totally great but geez Nick Cave really sucked. I saw and love b-day party and bad seeds but that was just terrible. Had to love Porter though.
Well nick recovered nicely after falling with humor, i saw conor oberst fall on his ass a few years ago and his recovery was not so tactful or humorous.
as far as the Grinderman, there were times when i liked them, times when i didnt. the less abstract/noise they were, the better, some of the stuff they were doing was great, some of it was just pure noise. Their presentation was awesome. they are something that i would have liked when i was 13 and my sensibilities were different.
I can dig that. I felt the same way about the Stripes. If I'd have been 13 last night, it would have rocked my world. I'm 33 though so I'm jaded and Nick's got the same snarky attitude I have so it worked for me. I was in the nosebleeds so the whole night was an abstract blob of noise. I guess I know the Grinderman record well enough to know what to listen for as compared to 1/4 of the Stripes set which sort of ran together for me after a while. Liked the whole night though.

I'm 40. Love the White Stripes. Couldn't stand Grinderman - it sounded like a random string of unending noise. I understand that he's respected in the industry so I looked him up. All vids seem the same - repetitive, angry noise. Point me to something that will make me respect this guy, because it's totally lost on me. I'd kind of like to see why people are into him. Thanks!
I'm not sure how I became the definitive Nick Cave fan simply because I liked the Grinderman set but if you think it's mostly repetitive noise, then you won't like his early stuff. Try stuff off Abattoir Blues, No More Shall We Part or The Boatman's Call because it's straightforward songwriting and less experimental. Really, we should ask this CrawfishJHughes person because he has apparently established himself as THE Nick Cave fan. I just expressed an opinion and liked the set.
Understand I am a HUGE Nick Cave fan. I saw the Birthday Party and Bad seeds many, many times. I guess I just have trouble reconciling the totally creative and artistic music he did with those bands with what I think is good but just not in the same league. To me Abattoir Blues is a masterpiece versus Grinderman. I snuck down to good seats and was just amazed by Jack's musical talent.
I was at the show from PA as well...F'n kiccked ass. Where is my Daily show intern??

I was there too! Leaning on the gate in the front/center. It was amazing! I loved how the disco ball lights made it seem like the stage was spinning.

Amen, Grinderman was amazing...even if Nick did fall on his ass. It was wasted on the WS crowd.
