I believe that the memory of the Light Warriors' battle is within every character in subsequent FF games, subconsciously. That's why they were always secretly in need of heroes to save them; they're remembering they way it was so many thousands of years ago.
I was finally able to finish this years later and got lucky when he just took 3 turns to cast bolt 3, fire 3, and ice 3, and he died after that. Kind of a disappointment.
I had the original on the NES. I beat the original on the NES. It completely ruined my social life for three months, but I beat it with balls. My point being, that they make games much easier now. Why? So that players buy and consume more games. There will never again be games like Blaster Master, Faxanadu, TMN Turtles, or FF1. Why? Because people today cannot finish them. Save spots everywhere; save whenever you want to save, battery saves, etc. These games took balls to finish; not any more!
dude I gotta tell you, Im 27, remember vividly the initial release of the original final fantasy but lived in a poor household and never got it. I did play dragon warrior and a few other original rpgs and beat them, but I completley forgot how hard they were. I just downloaded and emulator for the nes just to play this game. I took a break from ff 13 and my fucking god it is hard. I couldnt even get past 2 normal battles, its a new mission of mine to get through this game lol
I remember Chaos, scary fella. In the PSX remake, I beat him to a pulp with my Knight and Master in one turn, probably because I got stuck, with no idea where to go. So, I did what I could, which was to start leveling just for fun. Eventually I found where to go, and when I reached Chaos, I was around level 60-70 or so.

I remember playing this in '89 or so and being blown away that you could sail in a little pixelated ship and airship...

Seriously, not even a final battle theme? That was the one thing I didn't like about this game, same battle music for everything.

For those who are only familiar with the GBA version of FFI, the original NES version of the game had a maximum experience level of 50.

It's cool how Chaos sprite never truly changed from PS1, GBA & PSP. More like modified.
