  • Please check out Peter Glossop's youngest daughter's show reel on youtube - search Rosie Glossop's Showreel - He was very proud of her voice and sadly missed out on her performances but he would be encouraging her now if he were here with us today! Rosie is now trying to find a good agent so if anyone reading has any contacts please get in touch and help Rosie to follow in her father's footsteps! Thanks ;-)

  • from the first note, I said, "woah"

I knew this was going to be special

    guy knows what he's doing

  • questa registrazione non mostra la verita artistica, dal vivo Glossop aveva una bella voce...il suono qua é orrendo, metallico, brutto, agressivo ...

  • es el mejor Prologo que he escuchado. Bravo maestro Glossop

  • Being an opera singer and teacher myself, I hold the highest regard for your father's singing. I've only recently discovered him (Thank God) and am in awe. I've ordered his Otello film with Jon Vickers. I thank you for your father's talents and his sharing them with me even after he is gone.

    Best regards, JK, Illinois

  • whats wrong with yhe press in this country. I have just learned by chance that Peter Glossop passed away over 1 year ago but was never reported on the news or any newspapers. This man sang with the greatest opera singers in the world for decades.I am devastated to read about his passing away. Rest in peace Peter your voice will always give pleasure to the world of opera lovers

  • Fans of Famous British Baritone Peter Glossop:

I am planning on organising a memorial service to mark a year on from my dad's passing.

If anybody is reading this that knew my father or has any useful contacts in the opera world please do get in touch as I'd love to hear from you!

    Many thanks

    Amber Glossop

  • As it happens I rented this Cav-Pag DVD from NetFlix last week. I was favorably impressed once again with Glossop. I had heard him live many years ago. In this role he is very impressive dramatically.

The odd thing about Verdi baritones is how rare they are. Most men are baritones yet good tenors and basses seem to be more common than this type of baritone. Glossop like Louis Quilico and Mateo Manuguerra was very very good but never a real star. Pity. Tenors get paid more too.

  • Rest in peace -Peter Glossop you were a great Verdi baritone ,that gave great pleasure to me at Saddlers Wells in the fifties and later at Convent Garden.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Peter Glossop is my father and he is sadly unwell. If anybody reading this has any messages to pass on to him please email me. Thanks

    Amber Glossop

  • Don't have your email address, but wanted to pass on my thoughts. I am a 28 year old principal baritone with Opera Australia, and have just finished watching your father's BBC dramatisation of Billy Budd. It is fantastic, and a real pleasure to hear such a beautiful voice. It's awesome to be able to have this contact with him.

  • Dear Amber, I was very sad to see that your father had succumbed. I was there when Karajan conducted. I will always remember the voice because he was one of the few Verdi baritoni who did not 'tenorise' things to much and still retained a mahogany lower register with a good tenori coloured top.

RIP - Richard Jones - ex-Grand Theâtre Genève

  • Hello Amber, I'm only sorry I didn't see this earlier. Like thousands around the world I have admired your father's work for many years. He truly was great. May he rest in peace as he will surely stay in the hearts of many people, best wishes and comfort to you,

    Ruxton

  • Dear Amber, my heart felt condolences. Your father was and still is an inspiration to me as I'm sure he is to baritones and singers throughout the world. What he gave us is very special and he takes his place as one of the great artists of the 20th century. To this day unparalleled as a british verdi baritone, he will continue to inspire.

  • Thanks to everybody for all their lovely messages - I really do feel grateful that his singing meant so much to people! Keep your eyes peeled for a tribute video I will be uploading this weekend - my mum created it and we played it at the wake. It is a collection of photo's throughout my dad's life accompanied by his beautiful voice - thanks again!! xx

  • Lo tengo en Otello, donde interpreta a Iago, y John Vickers a Otello. Un gran actor Glossop, un gran villano

  • I heard Glossop first in Ernani at SF Opera as Carlo V. A dozen years or so later I heard Milnes in the same part on the same stage.

Glossop had a more solid sound. His voice was bigger and richer although at times he would snarl - not really appropriate in Ernani but probably OK in Rigoletto. He always had a great top.

After Merrill and Warren left the stage you might have thought that Glossop would have been next big thing. But it didn't work out that way.

  • Yes, I definitely preferred Peter Glossop to Milnes. The voice was better integrated from bottom to top. A true baritone sound with wonderful richness, color, and expression! Voices like this seem comparatively rare today.

  • What a great voice! I knew his name, but never heard him singing. Youtube does it make possible.

  • si, seguro que en los teatros no se lo escuchaba nada...

  • ese agudo está tragado! JAJAJA
