Great video! I'm a Chicago native, and those Victory Auto Wreckers commercials have always cracked me up when that guy opens the car door and it falls off. The way that guy quickly gets out of the way of the falling car door is a classic! And I still see these VAW commercials on TV to this day. Love that retro mix towards the end, which makes the video all the more funnier.
ive been given permission to announce that he has a facebook... you can find him on there... his name is bob zajdel... he wanted me to mention he is a truck driver now and likes to ride his harley on sundays.... (but thats not entirely true kuz uh.. its winter...)
sept62 who are you? my dad is that "dirty hippie" and you're supposedly our neighbor... but i dont know any of our neighbors and now my dad... i mean that dirty hippie is curious... btw the dirty hippie thinks this is hilarious and still has that wristband/watch thing... and is still laughing... at this video... :P
The Victory and Empire commercials have always been my favorite commercials growing up. I remember sometime in the 90s Kevin Matthews had that hippy on his show in reality he was one of their tow truck drivers when they filmed it. Such a classic commercial I look for it every time Im back in Chicago.
I am THE animator working with the company that is designing the NEW animated version of this Victory Auto Wrecking Commercial! LOL!! The Hippy and everything will be intact.
on one website it indicates this commercial was done in 1981.

@All4Gristle According to Wikipedia "that replacement commercial, filmed on May 20, 1985, has remained on the air to this day."

I think Pat Foley and John Weideman would make a pair of good spokespeople for Victory Auto Wreckers.
