got a 97' grand cherokee laredo, wondering if doing stuff like donuts and burnouts in the snow is at all bad for my car? any long term effects that will be bad for my transmission, engine, etc.
@jwatt1313 just lubricate shaft joints after it and that's it. and be careful to not damage the front axle with too much spinning with too much turned wheels.
@jwatt1313 not super hard on them..i hear the VC is what goes alot in that gen..transmissions are also made of paper mache..not hating on Jeep..I have a 98 myself(on secound transmission)..Don't know what buddy means by lubricating your joints...everything is completely sealed..don't worry about that...unless your CV joints are bad. Magnum 318,and 360 as weill as the 4.0 i6 last for quite awhile with PM done on time (my 360 is pushing 400000..still runs great) Have fun with your jeep..
I really want to know how this jeep does with gas, is it decent or terrible? cause im actually looking at buying a 2002 overland but i dont travel far most is probably 25 miles radius. but thats rare also, how many times do you have to fill up your tank in 1 month?
My 99 grand cherokee limited 4x4 2" lift and almost 33's gets 11.5 with the 4.7 regular.
Its great in snow even with street tires but can be problematic. just gotta go over it good, and dont pay over bluebook price because if you ever want to get rid of the resale value sucks so buy wisely.
This is nothing but normal for us most winters! Fact is my old two-wheel drive chevy station wagon with chains would do all of that and more with no spinning of the wheels! All of that aside, we non-professional drivers do this on a daily basis on and off roads just to get the chores done!
@ballerboy315 Some come with the Quadra-drive NV247 t-case which are in 4wd all the time. Others come with the Selec-trac which is the NP242 (my personal favorite, i believe its still they used the NP242 on the WJs at least) where you have 2WD 4HI Neutral and Lo. Some grand cherokees had 4 Full time and 4 Part time.
That transfer case whine spooked me out in grand Cherokee I had. It's solid but not made to be consistently in the high rpm. These with the 4.7 or the newer ones with the hemi are the shit!!!!! Baaaad assss
I got the 2005 grand cherokee limited with quad trac 2,and 5.7 hemi v8..We had mean blizzard in illinois last yr,didnt even slow down my jeep...i was truely amazed
@ekinox80 its the transfer case fucking its own ass....not too sure haha but i think there may be something in it because i had a problem with mine and i had a shop open it up (transfer case) and they said there was something stuck in the gears...now its fixed lol
Guys i'm getting a new tires for a 2002 grand cherokee overland soon , i'm stuck between 2 kind of tires , one is general grabber h-t tire and no.2 is yokohama geolander a/t-s , which one is better ?
i don't offroad too much but i would like the tire to be good in snow and sand
@jordan6500 i would get general grabber AT2\s i had them on my stock 02 lmtd and they were great tires almost identical to the bfg at's but WAY cheaper
The 2002 laredo has 195hp under the hood , the limited has 235hp , the overland has 265hp with high output v8 engine , also there is a differences in the shape between laredo and limited and overland , of course the overland is the strongest one , the overland has awd system which means it's always on 4wheels , the overland is more luxury than the limited and the laredo , but it's more expensive for fixing
@TheWendilicious3 Yeah, my 96 JGC has given me only a few problems. Been pretty reliable and I never worry about getting through a snow storm. What I keep hearing (and reading) is that the old ones were better than the new ones. That could be true. Anyway, I've no plans on giving mine up anytime soon. It's a work horse and I still love the way it looks, nice and square with sharp edges. The new ones don't even look like Jeeps anymore.
i have a red 2006 5.7 hemi overland and i hate myself for all the cigarette burns inside of it because of me and the kids i used to cart around in it :( so much for resale value lol. 27k miles
Impressive. The factory tires are a good compromise between traction and noise. When my original tires wore out I installed General AT and the traction was greatly improved. There was more noise but it would not have gotten stuck like this Jeep did at 0:56
k, i got a question, i have a 01 jeep grand cherokee larado with 4.0 i6, and a select-trac trans, i love my jeep absolutely no complaints..... im thinking the next car to get is an 04 grand chrokee with the 4.7 v8, my question is about the 4x4 system. i only see a selector for fourwheel part time, neutral, and 4 low.. is it always locked into fourwheel? i understand the whole back tires start spining and the front kick in, but in mine i have 4x2 and 4x4 when i want it, if some1 can explain plz
@guerrerense4 Who needs gas mileage when you can't get stuck in bad weather? I'd like to see a Civic get through that much snow (no offense to Honda or the Civic I love Civics, just saying because a civic with it's awesome MPGs would never get through snow like that) My 96 ZJ Tears through this just as nice as this guys WJ. <3 Jeep

@krazee315 I understand your point. And you're right about it's been done before...I live in northern South Dakota...that's called driving to work around here.
@91rxl650 Yeah, i live in Central NY, and right at the beginning of the snow belt as well, so we get demolished here and i drive everywhere, its kind of like a playground
@Razor4ever Overland is the highest trim level for a Grand Cherokee. You got a 4.7L High Output V8, which gave you 30 more hp and tq over the standard 4.7. You also got the up country package which included stiffer springs, increased ride height, skid plates, and a more comfortable highway ride. A two-tone leather interior with very plush seats and wood accents. All the goodies such as power, heated and memory seats/pedals. Standard chrome trim, wheels, and grill. I have a 04, its awesome

im thinking of buying a jeep, and that would my first car, im stuck with decision either buy Grand cherokee laredo 2005 or Jeep grand cherokee 2002-2004? plz give me suggestions.
@lard432 Agreed nothing stops my zj 5.2 quadra trac! I actually just swapped the 249 for the 242 and it's just as sweet in 4wd Full Time and now I have 2wd. 2wd + 5.2L V8 = XD
thats why you buy a jeep and then after you have fun with it take it to get fixed the next day like my brother and i had to do we played in the mud though in his 2008 wrangler unlimited shara on saturday took it to get fixed on monday and now the horn sounds funny to tranny had problems the fan was lose and it started overheating lucky he got the lifetime power tran warranty on it he still had to pay to get it back cuz the oil change place put the wrong anti frezz in it.
see now what i wanna can a 05 or 06 grand cherokee laredo do this. cause i wanna get one but the clearance compared to these or my cherokee sport seems lacking
Your mouth might be wide open, my dear Land Rover Range Rovers, now you have learned "Performance and Style" from Jeep Grand Cherokee, you only learned "Style" on the Land Rover Range Rover.
Last year we had 3 feet of snow in Virginia twice, i didnt have my license then... I do now tho and i really hope it snows like that again this year so i can do this with my 98 Grand cherokee lol..
Overland and limited has the same suspention and axles except for how the rearends are set up like limited would not have a vari-loc in the frontend unless that vehicle optioned to have quadradrive.
That means it has vari-loc in the transfer case, the rear end and front end.
Rearwheel drive unti wheel slippage, georotors pump(in vari-loc). So u can get all four spinning but will not lock solid but works real well in mud. It locks front and rear solid in low so only vari-loc from side to side. Very few 4-wheel drive systems can transfer torque in the front at all much less in Hi or normal driving.
Great video, seems like your Cherokee doesn't give a shit about snow hehe.
I'm trying to buy one, but I was thinking on going for the extra bucks for an overland instead of a limited (year 2002-2003). would anyone tell me what's the main difference?? (I need it for sand and I'm thinking on putting it wider wheels)
@papalapapiricoipi2 the overland is basically a more luxurious version of the limited. it has the high output 4.7 which puts out more hp than the normal 4.7 i think it has different suspension and axles to if i remember right. good luck
@jeepzj16 It has the QuadraDrive and the 4.7HO standard equipment. The QuadraDrive includes front and rear locking differentials and a center TC clutch to send power front or back. The HO 4.7L has 270HP/330lb ft instead of 235/295. :)
@4wheeler14 omg! i test drove one today i wanna buy it so bad!!! how much you pay for it ? guy at the dealership wants 11 grand with 85k miles...mint condition! got a rush driving that beast!
@xnf90x2 Mine is an 04 Overland with 75K miles and all options. Got the dealer down to 12K. Sounds like you test drove a great truck. BUY IT! You won't regret it

Overland and limited has the same suspention and axles except for how the rearends are set up like limited would not have a vari-loc in the frontend unless that vehicle optioned to have quadradrive.
Kingrichard345 1 year ago
Overland and limited have D44 rear and D30 front.
Overland has quadradrive.

(I need it for sand and I'm thinking on putting it wider wheels)
papalapapiricoipi2 1 year ago
@papalapapiricoipi2 the overland is basically a more luxurious version of the limited. it has the high output 4.7 which puts out more hp than the normal 4.7 i think it has different suspension and axles to if i remember right. good luck
jeepzj16 1 year ago
@jeepzj16 It has the QuadraDrive and the 4.7HO standard equipment. The QuadraDrive includes front and rear locking differentials and a center TC clutch to send power front or back. The HO 4.7L has 270HP/330lb ft instead of 235/295. :)
