WTF??? The British Government won't fucking pay for them? I'd rip my government a new one if i was it captivity for more than 200 days.. They have no other option BUT to pay them. @gigobait i agree..the current ransom demand is for $7 million which is 1.6 million pounds. since the uk govt doesn't wanna encourage the policy of making concessions to hostage takers, let's hope some millionaire or billionaire feels sorry for them and offers to pay for their release. for some reason, i doubt the will resort to full fledged violence(as in shooting and beheading).

@gigobait .Somali Culture is very traditional in terms of social hierarchy where the older you are, the more respect you are given. Kidnapping the couple might be deemed alright(considering they wanna make big bucks) but i doubt they're that lunatic that they'll resort to beating them up and killing them.

What goes around comes around. The politics and policies of the Western are responsible for the Somalia today. They made it a battle ground. But I wonder in return why they bark. Is it 'cos only they got all the media ... but for Somali ppl who are immigrated all over the world almost all of them APART FROM THEIR FAMILY, and the death of innocent somali children everyday in short everyday devastating stories happen there but nobody seems to listen their cry. Anywyz i feel sorry for this couples.

Somalia has no government, and are victims of international industries who dump waste in their waters. Other nations also fish there illegally, cant fault them for keeping an eye out for violaters. I laughed at 6 04 to 6 41, remember slavery? The fact of the matter is, the entire continent of Africa wouldn't be in the shape that it's in if it wasn't for european colonialism.

You can't just blame European colonialism for all their problems, it's not as simple as that. There has always been tribal and ethnic factionalism. Sub-Saharan Africa is the only major continent that has never fostered a civilization, and to think mankind developed there. And exactly what industries operate in Somalia?

Late, and it pales in comparison to those of the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Mesoamerica and South America. Compare that to anywhere else at the time.

Africa were just the most wealthy, powerful, and expansive(Songhai was larger than Europe). All W. African students went to the University of Sankore(3rd in the world) to study. They had an inter-African trading system in place that was jacked up after Europeans colonized. The new unfair trading made Europe richer & Africa poorer.

You should read Walter Rodney's book, "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa." He's was a Guyanese historian and politician who published the book in 1972. You might want to look at other African kingdoms. Their intricate sculptures didn't come out of fricken nowhere. How do you have metallurgy w/o civilization? You are truly misinformed

Religion isn't 'new to Europe', every culture has its beliefs. Don't forget the Greco-Roman pantheon, paganism, Norse, Germanic, Slavic and Celtic myth. Nubia was not Sub-Saharan, get your geography straight. Songhai is in the Sahel.

Africa depends on European and American aid just to feed themselves. Unlike other nations they are unable to govern themselves to allow for economic development no matter how much help they get. India was colonized and their bettering themselves day by day.
So thats a poor excuse.

It goes to investments in multinational corporations that only help few Africans and the wealthy elites who own those companies. The IMF and World Bank is what's inhibiting Africa and other poor nations all over the world. It really is a new form of colonialism.

The more companies invest, the more jobs, the more management jobs the more money Africans have the better the economy. India, China, Turkey and many other nations are becoming better off richer due to foreign investment. What Africa needs is more investment. How else can they get themselves out of this mess?

Just exploitation and supporting dictators that allowed it to happen. As soon as they started trading with China their gdp's have been some of the fastest growing in the world.
