General James Dolittle proved the soundness of the machine and after a review the biggest issue that was found is that the pilots were dropping below stall speed on approach. After some further training and seeing that the WASPs had no problem flying these great planes, the pilots came to trust the Marauder knowing that it was going to bring them back after their mission was completed.
Calling the B26 Marauder a "Widowmaker" was one of the largest misnomers of the war. It was possibly the BEST bomber of WWII. With an overall loss rate of less than 1/2 of 1 percent. The B26 had many firsts and many made over 100 missions with one "FLAK BAIT" making over 200 missions. Its the bomber that was chosen as the lead plane during D-Day.
I wonder if they knew the world would never be the same, and the wanted to get one last group movie? Within a couple of years most of these planes were scrapped.
My grandfather was a flight engineer on B-26's in WWII and Korea. I miss him so much, but keep up the good work, 'cuz he might have been in one of those planes.
Airboyd, I can not thank you enough for posting all these videos. I came across your channel by chance and ever since then i've been hooked. Keep up the great work!
I believe they changed the wing's angle of incidence and the B-26 became easier to land, less likely to stall.

The Martin factory in Omaha later produced the B29 Superfortress including the Enola Gay which was helped bring the war against Japan to an end.
