Aaahhh I have to play this song for a competition (for a scholarship) and I play WWWAAAAYYYY to fast so I mess up so many times but at least I can watch this video to help
i find a hard time to loosen my left hand.i can play with it but i can't get it as loose as yu do.I try exercises and they seem to work but do you have any other tips ?
Im not as good a pianoist to play this good of a song, but I am on a couple of hard songs. It will be easy to just do one line at a time, then put it all together. But what I think I totally cant do, is my moms Christmas present for next year. She wants my brother on guitar and me on piano playing Wizards In Winter! I saw your hands flying over that piano. Amazing! I heard this sont at my piano teachers recitle and I loved it! Could you give me some tips on how to make this song a little easier?
@drtrcr7 I recommend the basics: scales, arpeggios, etc. For two-handed practice, play a scale (or arpeggio, or whatever) in one hand while playing this piece in the other hand.
Could you give me some tips on how to practice my left hand? I'm really having a hard time on getting bass cleff? (if that's what its called) notes. I can do good with my right but my left seems to be left behind always. Thanks, I just started 2 days ago :D
@fatababes There's no substitute for practice. (I've been playing for more than forty years.) If you can stand it, try learning this piece with your hands crossed (so that your left hand is playing the melody). It will be difficult and unpleasant, but your left hand will get better much faster than it would otherwise.
@fatababes You can also just play with your left hand (the melody or acompaniment), without playing with your right, this will greatly increase your control over your left hand. After playing the piece correctly with each hand separately, you will easily combine them.
how do you work on interpretation? is it just listening to how other people play it and taking the bits and pieces that you like and incorporating it in your interpretation?
@user48113 I sometimes listen to other people's performances, but most of my interpretation comes from just studying the piece, figuring out how it's put together, how it works. For example, I just finished working on Debussy's Second Arabesque. After I'd practiced it, I listened to a bunch of performances on YouTube. Some of them were very impressive, but what I ended up doing was very restrained compared to what everybody else did, because it seemed like a delicate piece to me.
I really enjoy the way you play Beethoven. I've done really well at learning Moonlight Sonata after seeing your video, and am going to make this my next project :)
@warmaniac555666 It *is* easy --- once you've learned it the right way. That's why you practice: to make it easy. To play well, the technical part --- playing the right notes at the right time --- has to be easy (ideally, as close as possible to completely automatic and unconscious), so that you can give all your attention to the interpretation. If you have to divert your attention to the mechanics of playing, the interpretation will suffer.
I think this is my favorite classical song, followed closely by Moonlit Sonata. Thanks so much for doing this one! I love your steady rhythm. Sometimes people like to play "passionately", but it just winds up looking like they rush through the piece, you really take careful time. Again, your uploads are greatly appreciated.
playing this at my recital today :) took me nine LONG weeks to learn it, and I'm still messing up in some places. Really hope it goes well today. SUPER GREAT playing here though.
@JimJimJimNL In the music sheet, the notes says alternate left and right hand, but it's the same notes... so it's left, right, left, right, then right right right... I don't know why Beethoven wrote it that way. You can also check the piano sheet.
Thank u sooooo much..you have mad skills..can you do the same type of video for moonlight sonata....I am struggeling with my fingering and this video was very helpful fuř me.
I can play this but my hands look really bad doing it. my fingers keep goign up and my hands have to reach farther than are used to on a daily basis. Oh well i'll keep trying!
I actually think that the way in which he moves his hands is so beautiful and harmonical, its romantic how the audio and thanks to that soft movement of hands the video combine to create a exquisit masterpiece... My friends always critizice me because i listen to this music (im 15), but i think is art and is something that our generation should never forget! sorry for the writting mistakes, i speak spanish. Anyway, peace and lovee! hahaha
@PsychoMenkz I didn't think "now that I can play the piece, how should I move my hands to create a dramatic effect?", if that's what you meant. Playing the piano is like dancing with my hands. Part of that dance is what's required to make the keys go down at the right time with the right amount of force, but beyond that, there are motions that are akin to "follow-through" (or "lead-up"). You might say that the motions have an effect on me, to remind me what to feel and express in the music.
@smalin Absolutely brilliant. Just started learning the piano and this is the first piece I am learning. I'm at speed to bar 44. Causing me a bit of problems from there but I'll stick at it. Any advice would be great

you are a great pianist! I love the way you play this, and the way your hands move. What a elegance......it's like you caress the keys, and it looks (and sounds) so amazing!
I read somewhere that beethoven supposedly had the legs of his piano removed,so when he played even though he couldn't hear much, he could feel the vibrations!
when that complicated note comes up i usually put my hand down and rest my other hand since i don't need a place it on the piano will it make it sound weird?
@richard2mitchell I can't answer that. It's like asking "is it harder to learn to converse fluently in a language, or to learn to read fluently in that language?" Being able to read music means being able to do something with what you're reading. So, part of learning to read is learning to play; you can't separate them.
@richard2mitchell Well, yeah, it is, but it's like "this symbol, and you put your mouth in this shape" for language. Knowing that for "S" you put your tongue against your teeth and blow air through it is something you learn, but it's a long way from there to being able to pick up a Shakespeare sonnet and reading it expressively. There's a lot of other stuff involved ...
I've been working on a bass guitar solo for this for some time now, without any sheet music. This is really helping to fill in the gaps that I couldn't get on my own. Thanks for sharing!
I wrote a book about the "Immortal Beloved" called "Beethoven's Immortal." My take on it is the reason that the reason that nobody ever found out who the "Immortal Beloved" was is because she is from the future. It is a time travel story and you can find in at Synergebooks and Amazon among other sites.
@le0nardodamunchi I entered the music into Sibelius, did a bunch of screenshots, and pasted them together (with a Matlab script I wrote for the purpose). The image was then imported into Adobe Premiere Pro and moved with a motion timeline.
I love your playing, I love watching your hands as they move flawlessly. You are gifted! I learned to play the piano years ago but "cheated" when it came to learning scales and using the proper fingering. I am trying to "relearn" which is difficult but watching you is truly inspiring.
@williamarissa I had terrible fingering when I was young, but it got better as a side-effect of getting better as a pianist in general. If you focus on trying to play with ease and expression, you will find that the "correct" fingering is the one that gives the best result, and is the most natural, and the one you want to use.
Used to have a recording of this, used to listen to it for hours when I was like 5, its unimaginable one man can create such a beautiful sound that will live forever.
Aaahhh I have to play this song for a competition (for a scholarship) and I play WWWAAAAYYYY to fast so I mess up so many times but at least I can watch this video to help

@3939stefan Click your heels together three times, say "there's no place like home," and then read the "Show more" for this video.

I wrote a book about the "Immortal Beloved" called "Beethoven's Immortal." My take on it is the reason that the reason that nobody ever found out who the "Immortal Beloved" was is because she is from the future. It is a time travel story and you can find in at Synergebooks and Amazon among other sites.

what software/application that was used showing the scores in the lower right? Thanks!

@le0nardodamunchi Lower right?
smalin 6 months ago
@smalin oh oh.. lower left :)
le0nardodamunchi 6 months ago
@le0nardodamunchi I entered the music into Sibelius, did a bunch of screenshots, and pasted them together (with a Matlab script I wrote for the purpose). The image was then imported into Adobe Premiere Pro and moved with a motion timeline.

I love your playing, I love watching your hands as they move flawlessly. You are gifted! I learned to play the piano years ago but "cheated" when it came to learning scales and using the proper fingering. I am trying to "relearn" which is difficult but watching you is truly inspiring.
williamarissa 6 months ago
@williamarissa I had terrible fingering when I was young, but it got better as a side-effect of getting better as a pianist in general. If you focus on trying to play with ease and expression, you will find that the "correct" fingering is the one that gives the best result, and is the most natural, and the one you want to use.

This is awesome! I wish I had a piano but the closest thing I have is a keyboard ...which is broken and old :'(
