  • Run my instruments and vocals in my DAI 12 inputs and then out of the 12 outs from my DAI into my channels in my live mixer so I can still make adjustments during live performance. My DAI will be connected to my PC via USB. So...so everything is going in my interface first and then the mixer. Reason for this is for me to be able to edit individual channels of my live recording. Tell me if you think this will work please... All comments are helpful thanks.

  • @AUDUCK86

It seems unusual, but I believe it will work for you that way.

The only thing better would be to have a MIXER with at least 12 inserts

  • One more question... How do I connect my 12 input interface to my mixer and be able to go back and edit each individual track seperately?

  • @AUDUCK86

I suggest you hook it up as described in this video if you have a mixer with 12 strips with inserts. Otherwise, plug your mics and instruments directly into the interface and take a stereo send from your interface to one strip on the mixer.

    good luck

  • @dustypuppy but does the method in the video only work for 10 tracks and 8 non digital tracks. how would it work for 12 tracks?

  • @nicekid76

This method will work fine for 12 analog mono tracks as long as you have enough room in your mixer. I don't know what software you'll be using but Cakewalk/Sonar will allow you to record each track seperately so you can mix later

  • Thank you

Yes there are audio interfaces with 12 and 16 inputs

let me know if you need help with anything

  • Your videos are very helpful... I need to record live music and then edit all of it at my church and I need 12 inputs for everything. Is there an interface that will work for that many inputs?

  • your videos are really help but im wondering if you could help me out, im recording using simply an interface with microphones onto cubase but despite using good quality microphone and the gains and levels set very low, the qulaity of the sound recorded is still terrible and there is an insane amount of hiss, any advice? im really confused, thanks :/

  • @antonpearson

    Is your interface good quality?

I forget if Cubase uses "driver modes" or not - you should be using the ASIO driver mode.

Also be sure you are using the latest drivers for your audio interface. They can be downloaded from the manufacturers website.

I used cubase years ago - I remember having problems when buffer settings weren't set right and stuff - I hope you get 'er working ;)

    good luck

  • if you route the output of the mixer to your interface, is it right that all the mics just go through the preamps and go out right away not through the mixer? Thanks

  • @lekhanh94

I suppose that would depend on the connections. Different setups may vary.

The way I have it hooked up in this video, the mics are using the pre-amps of the mixer.

  • @dustypuppy so would it be better if you get a soundcard comes with preamps. I think it's cheaper than a mixer...

  • @lekhanh94

I'm really not sure about that, but let me say this . . .

For convenience, I like it this way. And I still have it hooked up the same way as I did in this video.

Also, mixers are less expensive than you might think.

  • does M-Audio Delta 1010 works with Windows 7?

  • @paulemus

I haven't tried it myself since I am still using XP.

But I see on M-Audio's webpage they definately have written the drivers for Windows7. They're available there for free download.

You might search some audio forums to see how people are getting along with it.

    Good luck

  • hey bro!! i have a behringer eurorack UB2442FX pro mixer and im tryin to do the same connections as you are, but i havent purchased the interface yet and i was gonna buy the maudio mobile pre so idk if it will work or would i have to get a different interface.. if i do, do you have any suggestion??

  • @musicianinshadow

Using the "m-audio mobile pre" you will only be able to record 2 tracks at a time. You will need an interface with enough inputs for the channels you want to record.

I am still using the M-Audio Delta 1010 and loving it. I can record up to 8 mono tracks at once.

  • @dustypuppy thanks man...so i found a better interface, the tascam US800, but idk how the connections work... like i wasnt able to figure it out from yours... does its go, fom the mixer--> interface---> to the computer... and then outputs for monitors from the interface?

  • @musicianinshadow That US800 looks nice !

It will be connected to your PC with USB. It will become your default sound card.

Take stereo output from the interface and plug it in to one of the stereo strips on your mixer. That will now become the master volume for ALL sounds coming from your computer.

As for INPUT to the US800, it looks like you have at least 6 inputs there. You can go directly from the first 6 strips of your mixer like I did, and into the 6 inputs of the US800.

    good luck

  • @dustypuppy you are so helpful man!! thanks... i wish people like you worked in guitar center lol...and by the way imma need future help too, coz you are the only one i could found in youtube who replies fast :)

  • I have a 4 input mixer with recording out outputs. If I connect the RCA cables into a behringer uca202 USB audio interface and connect it to my lap top, will I be able to record multiple tracks at once? I'm using GarageBand to record and u can record multiple tracks at once. I just want to know if it will work with the behringer uca202 USB audio interface.

  • @scr3minguitar

Yes, you will be able to record 2 mono parts at once using left and right from the uca202 USB.

but not 4 - you would need an interface with more inputs for that.

    good luck

  • wat if i am using a usb mixer like x1204 usb for recording then will each recording channel can be used for recording ........instead of using any external device.. ........plzzz help me.

  • @kashishbhasin

    Sorry, no.

If you use the USB connection, you will only have stereo in and out - no seperate channels for recording :(

  • @dustypuppy can u tell if there is any other mixer lyk that can do multitrack recording ....without using external device ...

  • @kashishbhasin

I dont think so. You see, the audio interface is what will determine how many tracks you can record at once.

  • @dustypuppy thanx a lot...

  • @kashishbhasin

i think you are using Behringer x1204, if im right. You are able to record in 6 simultaneous tracks using the USB port, It has 4 mic and 6 line inputs.

This mixer works as both mixer and Interface.

  • I'm a bit confused, i have 8 inserts on my board. So if i get the delta 1010 i would use the 6 inputs and the 2 xlrs for all 8 inserts?? i think i know the answer but just asking can Cubase have multiple inputs as i have used software where you can arm many tracks but only have one input so tracks record the same!

  • @opinioncanvas Yes you are right, with the delta 1010 you can have all 8 inputs recording seperate signals at once. I know SONAR can do this but I cannot say for sure about cubase.

  • @dustypuppy Thanks, so what type are the cable so you have going from your insert to the soundcard? I'm guessing male 1/4inch jack to male xlr, but i dont know about the ones going into the mono socket!?

  • @opinioncanvas Those are 1/4" MONO cables which go from my inserts, but six of them are rca on the other end, where they attach to the delta1010. The other 2 inputs for the delta are XLRs.

  • @dustypuppy Cheers mate, one last thing were did you get your cable as i cant find them on the internet :/

  • @opinioncanvas

I suggest checking at electronic stores like the source (radio shack), FutureShop. bestbuy or your music store.

search in google rca - 1/4"

to find a picture of the cord. You will also see you can get adapters from rca to 1/4 "

    good luck

  • Also is this soundcard compatible with Windows 7??? I read the description and specs & it names every windows OS except for Windows 7 and Windows Vista.....

  • Hands down the best video I've seen about audio recording on youtube.

  • Comment removed

  • i have a similar mixing table but from phonic brand, and it has usb conection. can i link directly to my laptop or I still need a powerful audio board ? does quality of the laptop sound board influence in the recording quality at all?

sonar is recording horrible quality stuff, and even loops that came with the software are sounding distorted, (not happening in other simpler multi trackin software.) so , is that related to the internal audio board?

  • @alexandre9a

The soundcard in your laptop would certainly make a difference but what you describe could be as simple as changing the driver mode (in sonar).

Your USB connected mixer is likely fine but if your laptop is able to run SONAR well, then you should get a quality audio interface (connected by USB or firewire) and bypass your soundcard. They are actually quite inexpensive. Then you will use the ASIO driver mode and have low latency monitoring

    good luck

  • so, if i buy M-audio delta 1010 and i connect it to my behringer mixer, i can get all channels separate? did i get it right?

  • @kiks1234567

Just to be clear, the delta 1010 has only 8 analog mono inputs. So with a good size mixer, you can have as many as 8 inputs onto separate channels in your daw.

    not more

  • @dustypuppy I am still a bit confused...I have a 16 CH mixer..if I use a for example the 1010 he talks about then will I be able to record 16 separate tracks into let's say AUDACITY?

  • @soilfit

Cakewalk Sonar allows you to arm and record as many channels as you have available. I am not sure if "audacity" can do that.

But the problem is the amount of inputs. The delta 1010 that I am using in this video has only 8 MONO inputs. (10 ins and outs but 2 are digital) With this I can record as many as 8 inputs at a time.

You would need an audio interface with 16 or more analog inputs to record 16 tracks at once.

    good luck

  • @dustypuppy thank you for reply I was not going to use 16 maybe 6-8 I think I understand how you are using INSERTS your using them as single OUT signals correct? Each strip can be sent to the 1010 as single signals I guess? Not sure how the 1010 works with all those 1/4 inch cables coming from INSERT where do they go to the 1010 how do you hook them up to 1010? Also you show AUX mono out to the 1010 but is going only into 1 stereo channel how does the software detect individual channels then?

  • @soilfit

My M-Audio Delta 1010 has 3 groups of wires.

    - MIDI in and out (2 wires)

    - Audio outputs - 10 in total (but I only use 2 of those as a stereo send since I do my mixing right in the software)

    - Audio inputs - 10 in total, 8 of these are analog. These are the ones I have coming from the "inserts" on my mixer.

In the software, I can select from the available inputs and record up to 8 at a time on seperate audio tracks.

    I hope this helps

  • hey how can we send individual track from DAW to an analog mixer to do the mix

do you know if you do please help and what do i need to make work

    thanks

  • @sxayaxang

To do that, I would reconnect differently than in this video. Here I am mainly dealing with all the inputs and using only one stereo output from the delta 1010.

You would instead take the 8 outputs of the delta and plug one into each strip of your mixer. This way your DAW would be able to play 8 channels through your mixer.

  • Love your videos man! keep it up :)

  • hello dustpuppy,Thanks for valuable input. Also i want to record my drum set with Sonar6 PE and i am trying to figure out something close to what your set up is,but i have the Presonus firepod interface with 8in 8out with 1st and 2nd preamp and the Yamaha analog mixerMG12\4 Question is what do you suggest about setting up everything correctly. Kind Regards, Sigu

  • @pickemrollemfickem

That seems so simillar to my setup, I suggest you hook it up exactly like this video. If you want to use all 8 inputs, you could bypass your mixer and use mics directly plugged into the 2 pre-amp channels.

Then in sonar, you can arm and record all these tracks at once. - good luck

  • @dustypuppy thank for a quick reply i happen to have a tight budget for recoding my drum-set and the rest the band, i am trying to find an alternative in using what i have .i do like my fiepod but it lacks the eq and faders thats why i want and need to combined the Yamaha.Sorry this might sound dumb to ask, so i should or able to plug 1st the Yamaha all 6 outputs to the inputs of the presonus is that correct ? o what else can be done? Again thank you so much.

    Regards Sigu

  • @pickemrollemfickem

Thats correct - you shouldn't have a problem. Your MG12\4 has 8 strips with inserts available. (if I have found the right picture of the back of your mixer) So you can get XLR adapters and run all 8 channels through your mixing board :)

  • @pickemrollemfickem ,dustpuppy hello good day or morning, today i have attempted connecting the Yamaha and the Presounus Firepod. So far it sounds good. I have tested 1 strip 1st connected the mic to the Yamaha 2nd then quarter inch line from Yamaha to output from the firepod, i am able to hear sound from both firepod and Yamaha headphones the Yamaha seems to me sounding better, but it seems to me i am unable to set the eq settings through my firepod. Is their something i have forgotten to do?

  • @pickemrollemfickem

Sorry I'm really not sure about that. Sometimes when we plug things in, it is post fader; meaning the EQ and fader won't take effect.

  • I have the same card the delta pci. I just got a soundcraft 200 bve analog board. I also have a soundcraft notepad. I am curious is to how I can get this all going. The ins and outs on the desk seem to be a little more then the behringer. Any advise would be helpful. Thank you

  • @NoDealPunk

That soundcraft 200 looks like an awesome mixer. The routing possabilities are endless with a unit like that. Still I suggest you hook it up like I describe in this video to get started, then experiment more once you learn more about your mixer.

    Good luck

  • @dustypuppy I have a pci soundcard on my laptop, but the m-audio 1010LT seems like it will not fit within my laptop if i try to install it where my current soundcard is located. It seems to large to fit within a lapop, only for a desktop. I have a Berhringer xenyx 2222x with USB, so is this even worth buying???? Im also planning on buying ableton live, so is this necessary?

  • @thekid22585

You are right - this DELTA 1010 will not fit in a laptop. Instead, you will need an audio interface that hooks up by USB or Firewire.

If you're using 64 bit win7, be sure you buy one that is compatible.

ASIO is the main driver mode; unless windows 7 has something better.

    Good luck

  • Hi,

your jack cables connected to the Inserts are balanced or unbalanced?

  • @voidstuff

Mine are unbalanced. They are regular 1/4" MONO cables.

  • @dustypuppy thanks!

  • how can i hook a mackie mixer and fast track pro using the insert at the back of the fast track pro

  • @motyonmyx

Sorry I am not sure how (or why) you would do that.

I suggest you use the inserts on the Mackie instead, and hook up like I describe here or in my other Mixer video

    good luck

  • man i'm dislexic here stop speaking in code language its anoiying....all i want to know is where do i stick my interface cables in...? what hole?...i have the yamaha mg10/2 but i havnt a clue what these stupid names are saying on the mixer..why cant they just be simple...like this goes in the interface and this goes in your speakers ect. i cant phafom what in and out mean and all that even if you explained ...my mind is to creative/dislexic fot technical stuff.

  • @jreaper5000000

Well, lol I wish it was that simple :P You see, this is why I make a video - its difficult to explain in text.

I suggest you watch my other video about mixers. Its called "How to Hook up a Mixing Board with your Computer"

I hope that will help you.

    Good luck

  • Hi,

Great video! I wanted to share an optional method that I use. Others may find it useful. I hope you don't mind.

I've set up my mixer just have you have except I have Delta 1-2 output go into the 2-TR RCA inputs instead of using a stereo strip. This frees up that strip and headphone/monitor volume is controlled with the Phones/Control Room pot. Also, my monitors are hooked up to the Control Room outs with nothing in the main outputs. Turn off monitoring in your DAW for near zero latency.

  • @dustypuppy thanks:D

  • So do u mix the sound from the mixer or with the recording software?

  • @seanawkaihian

I do my mixing in the software. Since I have 8 outputs, I could mix up to 8 tracks using the mixer. But there is no advantage to that.

In Sonar, I have everything I need to complete the mixdown - and often there are more than 8 tracks.

    good luck

  • The Yamaha mixer pictured in both videos actually has a USB interface on board. You know if these types of mixers are any good? Have any experience with them? For convenience purposes, I like the idea of ruling out the separate audio interface completely. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

  • @ridethesky9001

I haven't had any experience using these mixing boards via USB. It seems convenient all right, but I fear this way would not give you the routing flexability (recording individual strips). So when you record, you will capture everything going thru the board, and would not be able to isolate one track.

Also the sound will be better with a dedicated sound card or audio interface.

I hope this helps - good luck :)

  • @dustypuppy Ahh you may be right then. They are rather new, as far as I can tell. I only found 2 brands that use USB 2.0, Alesis and Tascam. And the Tascam is discontinued. Looks like they all still use the first USB. I assume there are latency issues as well now. I've actually been recording on only 1 track anyway, with a Boss digital recorder. Using 1 condenser mic for all instruments hahah. Sort of a live jam band recording, but I would love to utilize all the nice recording software out now

  • This may sound really dumb, but is this how you are able to record multiple tracks simultaneously? For example if i recorded drums miking each individual drum (snare, drum, tom, kick) would this enable in my recording software to see each drum's hit in individual tracks for each drum?

    Thanks for reading.

    -Thomas

  • @MrThomasHays

Thats right - hooking it up this way will give you a separate track for each mic or input you use. This way, you can isolate Kick Drum, Snare, Toms, Cymbals etc

    good luck

  • hi dusty, thanks for your time in replying so quikly, im trying to cantact cakewalk and if i find anything ill let you know,

  • hi , i have a allen and heath usb mixer that usb straight to my laptop, my band has about 12 inputs to mixer and we record all on 1 track no probs{sonar 8.5} but can i record each band member on a seperate track in sonar at the same time, thanks for all your vids, much appreciated,

  • @backplommer Hi - thanks for your kind comments.

Sorry, I am not sure if that would work. It seems Allen and Heath is high quality stuff and in reading some info on the net I see they also have a firwire Mixer. You better check with them or someone who uses one.

    Good luck.

  • is it possible to install a sound card with that many inputs on a laptop? if so, are there any on the market compatible with windows 7 that have at least 6 mono analog inputs? Basically I'm trying to record seperate snare, bass, hi, mid, floor tom and overhead mic trackswith 6 seperate mics going into my behringer 1222 usb mixer, and I'm trying to record it on my laptop running windows 7 using mixcraft. would this be possible? Please respond, thanks!

    Deeplydisturbed22

  • @DeeplyDisturbed22

I believe you would need to use an external audio interface and plug it into USB (or firewire if your laptop has that).

I thought this would be simple but after a search, I am a bit confused.

There are many names including M-Audio, E-MU, Presonus, Creative, Cakewalk/Roland, Lynx, RME

Find one with enough inputs for your needs then be sure they have windows 7 drivers.

Check forums to be sure people are happy :)

    Good luck

  • @dustypuppy thank you, i searched guitar center for audio interfaces and the sound card from your video came up, with people commenting about how they use it and many of them used it how i want to so it just might work lol thanks again for the help

  • Thanks! This video answered a few questions I didn't even know I had!. Very informative and easy to comprehend. I currently have a Firewire Interface and was wondering it would be worth my while to invest in a small mixer to add to my setup. I think I'll be shopping now.

  • Will this sound card work with Windows 7 ? I have used XP and a Behringer mixer and Adobe Audition multitract in the past but it appears 7 does not like older cards.

  • @apologiamixer

Sorry I cannot answer that. I haven't used Win7 yet.

Check the M-Audio website to see if they have a new delta 1010 driver for Windows 7.

You might also chech the forums to see what other users are experiencing.

    Good luck

  • What if you have a 24 track mixer

  • @Steve564ify

If you have a 24 track mixer and you want to record more than 8 strips at a time, you would then need an audio interface with more inputs to suit your needs. These are available in many sizes - you might need one with up to 24 ins and outs.

    good luck

  • I don't know if anyone had this problem before, but I'm using the DELTA 1010 with a mic plugged into one of the XLR input. I go in Sonar and choose to record stereo. When I do that Sonar only record a sided signal (either the right or the left, not both for stereo). WHY? Thx

  • @adomayor

That is exactly what should happen.

You see, your mic is mono. In order to record stereo, you need 2 mics plugged into (for example) delta inputs 1 and 2. Then in sonar you select that as a stereo signal.

A mic or a guitar are always recorded in mono. Later you can pan them right or left since your project will be stereo. An exception would be a guitar played thru a stereo FX processer. Units like that would have left and right outs for recording stereo.

    I hope this helps

  • what if i want to hook it up with a laptop? isn't there any other interface that would make me able to connect my mixer to the computer without using the audio intrface for desktop computers?

  • @leugimigop

Yes indeed - you would need an external interface with USB or firewire connectivity.

  • @dustypuppy then how would i connect the mixer to the computer? do u know a particular external interface which supports this sir?

  • @leugimigop

You could check out the M-Audio Fast Track or if you need more channels, see the "Fast Track Ultra 8R" which has 8 ins and outs.

There are also many other brands available like PreSonus, Roland and Creative. See my video called "Near Zero Latency Software Monitoring" for more about soundcards.

  • @dustypuppy alright sir thank you very much!=)

  • OMG you are the dusty puppy!

    nice to meet you!

  • Perhaps I want to be able to affect the signal with the mixing board's fader's, EQ, etc. How do I make this happen? i.e., a way to make it post-fader?

  • @LoveSkrub

I am not aware of any way to do that for this multi-tracking setup.

It would be different if you just needed to record one instrument (strip) since you could use the main outs.

  • I love this video, very clear and so much information for the beginner, just like me. I would like to say thank you. Thank you very much!

  • @wescoas you're welcome :)

  • best video ever for this tutorial! :)

  • Thanks for your reply because what I'm trying to achieve is I'm going to buy the focusrite Scarlett 18i6 which is fine for multitrack recording but I like the feel of a mixing desk so I was going to buy a mixing desk as well not sure which one yet and connect the inserts to the inputs of the focusrite but I want it to be post fader so when I move a fader on the desk it turns the volume down or else in my setup it defeats the object of having a desk, thanks

  • Hi there good video however I was wondering if I push the plugs into the inserts all the way will it become post fader?

  • @musicmentalwebsite

No, it doesn't work that way on mine. Pushing them in all the way simply cuts out the sound from my speakers. Most boards are like this; pushing them in just to the first click makes a send. But all the way in to the ring is used as a return.

It actually says so below my channel inserts (see at 1:40)

    Pre-fader / pre-EQ

    tip = send

    ring = return

    good luck

  • si i plug my mixer into an audio interface?

  • @fatty001

Yes. This is how to get the sound into the computer. Your basic sound card will only have one stereo in and out. But you need an interface with lots of inputs.

    Good luck

  • oh btw i have logic pro 9

  • @fatty001

No, sorry, you will also need an audio interface for that. You need one with as many inputs as you want to record. Then, hopefully Logic can record them all at once like Sonar does.

    good luck

  • @dustypuppy if we push the pci input cables all the way in we can still get a output for the monitors from the outputs of the pci card ???

  • @omtnxyz

I would say usually yes. But different boards might work in different ways.

Give it a try and see what happens. Experiment with it - I don't think you can hurt anything.

    good luck

  • @dustypuppy wats are sizes of the input jacks.???

    1/4 "

    or wat?

  • @omtnxyz yes these are 1/4''

  • hi i have a 24 input mixer.i want to record individual tracks, is there a way to do this? right now i just run it into a zoom h4n but i get only a single track.

  • what is the difference between a mixer and a interface? if i have a mixer with 4+ channels/inputs and thats the most ill need to record simultaneously do i need a interface? please respond! thanks

  • @rightnearthebeach123

Your mixer might be all you need if you send the entire mix into your computer for recording. But then you will have all 4 sounds on the same track. (in your host program)

In order to have individual tracks when multi-tracking, you need an interface with enough inputs. Otherwise, it will work fine for recording one track at a time.

    I hope this helps

  • i have the same setup as you the 1832usb and the delta 1010. could you show or tell me how you set up the outputs. i want to see how you hook up your headphones and monitors. i can record ok i just cant hear any playback.i running cubase 5 if you can show me how to setup the outs in cubase 5 and on the hardware that would be great. thanks

  • @djmingus

    Hi

For the output from my Delta 1010 I use line out 1 and 2.

I plug these directly into a stereo strip on my board. When I play any sound from my computer, I control the volume with the slider for this strip (or channel) on my mixer.

My monitors are plugged into the main output of the board.

I have a headphone amp (runs 4 seperate headphones) hooked into the mixers own headphone send.

    I hope this helps

    Good luck

  • Hi, thanks a lot for the great video. right now I'm looking for a setup just like this for home recording, I already have a Delta 1010LT. Can you say more about the foot-switch you use? I haven't heard about something like that and would like to know what kind of fs it is and where do you plug it, thanks a lot

  • @KhimairaPC

The footswitch is great when I need to turn the speakers on and off a lot. My speakers are powered, so I plug them both into this cord with the switch.

I use a cheap one from the hardware store and I fastened it to the floor under my desk. I think they are made to turn your christmas lights on and off. They are available with a hand switch or a foot switch. It is simply like an extention cord with a switch in it - and very inexpensive :) Mine was less than $20

    good luck

  • I like this video a lot, and have one question, I have Behringer 2442fx With 10 mic preamps and this is what I need, 10 mic pre amps, but offcourse the mixer record only stereo, but I wont 10 separate tracks when record, Can I get this whit this M-audio card that you use? I have 8 direct outputs on my board, but I need 10, so can I hook up the mixer with delta card with those 8 direct outputs and use those 2 mic pre amps on Delta card so that I have 10 tracks at same time?

    Thank you.

  • @JTBproject

That sounds right and it should work fine. But you would be pushing it to the limit !

If you need 10 inputs to start with, perhaps you should look into an interface with more ins and outs. Some I have seen have 24 or even 32 inputs.

    Good luck

  • @dustypuppy

Thank you for your fast answer. Hmmm, do you now some interface, the cheap one like m-audio have, with that much inputs, and yes, you definitely need to do more videos like this, they are perfect ;).

  • @JTBproject

No I really have no experience with those. Perhaps someone else can give some input here?

  • Hey. You said you plugged the 1/4" jacks, from the first 6 inserts to the first 6 inputs of your delta 1010lt. Is it like that or did you mean to outputs because arent the inserts on the mixer a bit like the line in input on your mixer? Thanks

  • @cvcgac

Thanks for pointing that out but it is what it is :)

You see, these mixers have great routing possibilities. It gives you the ability to hook it up many different ways. These "inserts" can serve different functions depending on how far the jacks are pushed in.

The way I use it, these inserts on the back of my mixer actually serve as outputs from each channel on my mixer (first 6 strips)

    good luck

  • @dustypuppy Wow. So they work as direct out for their own channel? Thanks. I have a Behringer xenyx x1622 and never new what they were for. Thanks again

  • @dustypuppy

I have two more questions :D

What do you do with the delta 1010 outputs? Are they just for monitoring?

and how do you have your speakers set up? i mean like are they connected from your main out on your mixer?

    thanks

  • @cvcgac

I have a stereo pair (output 1 and 2) from my delta 1010 hooked directly to strip 9 on my mixing board. Strips 7, 8, 9 and 10 on my xenyx mixer are stereo. I needed it to be a stereo strip since this handles all playback from my computer.

I have powered speakers plugged into the main outputs from the mixer.

For convenience, I have a foot-switch so I can turn those powered speakers on and off when recording. I use headphones and turn off speakers while recording.

  • I need to get a set up like this! XD

  • all music directors take output from insert option??

  • @shrivibhu

No, I don't think so. There are several options for output in most mixing boards. There is no right or wrong way. This video describes how I use it, and it works really well for me.

  • @dustypuppy ok, sir..

  • @dustypuppy i think their mixer wil have usb and they can connect directly to PC.

  • hey, Here is my set up: mic is plugged into mic1 of Delta1010. I have one line (R and L) from the Delta output (black wires) into my mixer main input. Headphone is plugged into the mixer. In my recording program, recording is perfect from mic, I can hear playback of the vocal but I can't hear myself while recording. Any idea why? A volume slider maybe?

  • @adomayor

Yes I think I can answer that. With my setup, my mixer is used for hardware monitoring - so I can hear as I record. But without a mixer you must use "Software monitoring". In Sonar, simply press the INPUT ECHO icon on your vocal track. It looks like a little happyface :) and will light up when in use.

    Good luck

  • Your my hero i thought by another video you just can get an output by the direct output and not the insert im also now planing byuing the the m audio 1010!thanx so much bro i was like wtf just 1 channel recording and i need 8 for my drums !!!!

  • i have a doubt.

how to take different outputs from mixer to interface? (by using which port of the mixer)

  • @shrivibhu Hi

In this example, 6 seperate signals are going into my sound card through the mixers 6 "inserts" from these first six strips.

Most mixers have routing ability simmilar to this

Otherwise you could only take one stereo signal from the mixer output.

    Good luck

  • @dustypuppy i think tht s unbalanced out put no?

  • @shrivibhu

Yes thats right, it is unbalanced and pre-fader

  • @dustypuppy sir, and what about the audio clarity?

  • @shrivibhu

This is exactly how my studio is presently set up. It works great and the audio clarity is fantastic. This is only a hobby with me but with this setup I get very good CD quality sound.

  • where do the outputs of the delta 1010 go ?

  • @MrLegs77

The output of the delta 1010 goes to an available stereo strip on the mixer. I am using a stereo send from the delta (1/2) to go into stereo strip #9 on my mixer.

Alternatively you could send all 8 mono outputs from the 1010 to separate strips on the mixing board if you have enough available strips and want to mix this way.

    Good luck

  • @dustypuppy

    ok thanks !

  • excellent!

  • Hey dustybuddy, quick question. Is it possible to run a mixer to an external audio interface via the channel inserts?

  • @12ealDeal

I'm not sure how you mean that.

Its likely a yes but I would want to be more certain I understand your question.

I use the "channel inserts" of my mixer to send the signal to my Delta 1010 "internal" audio interface as shown here. And that seems to be the same.

  • @dustypuppy Hey, thanks for the prompt response. Basically, we'd run the mixer pre fader, using the 'first click' method, out from the channel inserts, into the external audio interface (firepod, tascam, etc.,)- using the usb or firewire cable to run into our DAW,, in order to record x number of tracks. Does that sound right?

In effect, we'd have a few analogue controls working in tandem with our interface, dedicated bus ports on the mixer for some speakers or monitors. etc.

  • @12ealDeal

Yes that sounds right and it should work well that way.

    Good luck

    Dwight

  • @dustypuppy Cool! I apppreciate your help!

  • Great setup...I have a similar set up...My board is the Behringer SL3242FX Pro...and I have two M-Audio Delta 1010's. Love the cards... Very good post...Thank you...

Would love to hear some of your tunes... So you use sonar? What version do you use? It looks great..Right now I am using Cubase 5 Studio but it can be a little sketchy at times...

  • i'm "tracking" one thing at a time. guitar/bass/vox/keys/drums. but for the drums i'm using a 7 piece CAD mic kit which i was planning on running into the mixer, then connecting the mixer to the tascam. even though the tascam dp-02 is an 8 track digital recorder, it only has two XLR & two 1/4'' inputs. (A & B ). my next question is, what input on the mixer should i connect from? and would it matter which input on the tascam that the mixer goes to? i wouldn't think so since both inputs are alike.

  • @cupidsvictim47

It seems like you'll have to do some tests to see what works best for you. Since I am not familliar with these devices, its hard to know what to suggest. It seems you are going to be limited at best, since connectivity is not quite what you need.

A better idea might be (if possible) to get a bigger mixer with more strips. These are seriously cheap to buy these days - maybe you can find a good used one like I did.

    Good luck

    Dwight

  • can you please help me out! i have a tascam dp-02 8 track digital recorder and i have an old peavey MK IV mixing console. is it possible for me to hook these two units together to record with in my home studio? i haven't been able to find much info on the mixer because it's so old. and the manual that came with the tascam isn't very helpful with my situation. i have searched and searched and can't seem to find any help. email me at danny_havoc47@yahoo.com or leave me a message on here. thanx

  • @cupidsvictim47

I'm sure you could use these together to record, but perhaps not needed, depending on how and what you want to record. Do you want to record just one instrument or voice at a time? Or do you want to record several things at once ?

The dp-02 is a recorder by itself, but I suppose you could just use its channels to make a sub-mix

  • I just posted on one of your other videos with questions that you answered on this video lol. I got the Tascam M-164UF from Musicians friend yesterday on one of their "stupid deals" for $199! It's off the deal list now, but it's still only $299. Still a good starter price. I'm not advertising, just thought I'd pass along the deal.

I like my Yamaha MG166cx-USB for performance mixing.

  • @songswedo

    Thanks for this :)

  • Hey i REALLY REALLY need help i have a tascam us-144 and a Behringer Europower PMX1000 mixer can you please help me set that up into my audio interface

  • @MissDictionary14

Sure I will help. How do you want to record? If you are just recording one track at a time I suggest you follow my video called "How to Hook up a Mixing Board with your Computer"

    good luck

  • So the 8 direct outs of your mixer that send signal to the delta are the first 8 channels of your mixer?? or can you select what channels to send I'm a bit confuse in that part ? thank you

  • @CHRCAR5

Sorry for the confusion. I am only using #1 and 2 of the 8 direct outs from the delta 1010 for a stereo mix. This stereo pair is sent to one of the available stereo strips on my board.

I don't need the 8 outs because I mix within Sonar. You would however hook all 8 up to individual strips on your mixer if you wanted to mix that way.

    I hope this helps.

    Dwight

  • @dustypuppy I'm sorry Sir i think dint explain my self right i meant the outs of the mixer going to the ins of the delta can i choose which channel to send or is it always the first 8 channels

  • @CHRCAR5

Ok I see what you mean. Yes, you are able to select which ones get recorded. So if you plug all 8 into your mixer, and lets say you only want to record strip 3, 4 and 6 . . .

You would select which inputs get recorded in your host recording program (ei. Sonar, Cubase, Pro-tools)

    Good luck

  • Do u know if it's compatible with Sony Acid Studio 8?

  • @Kantante831

I just searched and found that Sony Acid Studio 8 is able to Multitrack - so I guess you could do this with it.
