That is NOT a GSD (German Shepherd Dog or Deutsche schaferhund) It is a Belgian Malinois. Deutsche schaferhund litteraly translated means German Shepherd dog.
Also bite strength varies and depends a LOT on the bite surface and if the dog has a full mouth bite or not.
Also, if the guy didn't have any protection and the dog did not come off, he deserved to be bit. In a real life encounter there is no call off. Can't be done. A person screaming in pain will send the dog's drive into the stratosphere. You will have to remove the dog from the suspect.

these police officers do not know how to handle a trained protection dog, they dont give him a firm attack command they just say GO, and then to get the dog off they just pull on the collar until the dog releases, instead of using the trained out command. This is dog has gone to waste in this police department, eventually he will forget his training or be selective about how he works and forget he needs a handler.

It was meant to be a joke. The dog is always attacking people in big puffy suits, so if he's sent out to take down a skinny little perp, is he going to get sidetracked by someone who more resembles his training partners, ie a big guy.

This specific dog has no "out" command, or if it does, it hasn't been proofed by the unskilled handler. This doesn't represent all k-9 police dogs in the U.S., but this IS very common.
That is kind of a broad brush to paint with. There are many good Police dogs here in the USA. Don't accuse them all for the actions of a few. However many are trained with Electric collars which I am dead against. This dog can very well have been trained with one, when then don't feel a zap they do not listen. Like when the batteries go dead. They are banded in Europe and they should be banded here.
That dog should OUST!, pull back and bark on the very first command. This is nothing short of a dangerous uncontrollable K-9... Someday that dog will hurt someone if it didn't already happen.. The handler should be embarrassed and concerned!!

I never said I felt bad for any bad guy.. My point was in this sue happy, video tape world we live in if a K-9 Officer cant make his dog release or in fact if the dog grabs the wrong person which has happened, if that dog doesnt respond on command depts get sued and the K-9 programs are at risk thanks to groups like the ACLU etc. My concern is for innocent bystanders and the K-9 programs themselves.

This video worries me. The dog shown has not been trained to end an attack on command. Teaching a dog to attack but not when to stop is dangerous. They should have a way to call the dog off. Also, I'm extremely disappointed in the treatment the dog received. Choking and hanging the dog is inhumane. This is a dog that could one day end up in headlines when it attacks an innocent bystander and the handler is unable to call the dog off.

My K-9 Arko would never "not" let go!!! but in case I have the slacked lead..Hes a non electric collar trained K-9 and I get 100 % results all the time. This vid is nothing but trouble and they should be happy they didn't get this guys face!!

That is NOT a GSD, it is a Belgian Malinois. They are a little more high strung than the Shepherds. Near all police dogs in Europe use only Malinois. They're pretty common in the States as well.

That's not a German Shepherd. Many police K9 units use Malinois. Malinois are generally more reactive and have a higher prey drive, but some police depts prefer German Shepherds b/c they are better at barking (barking and holding before a bite) and are a greater visual deterrence, especially dark sable Czech dogs.
I got to see a police k-9 national competition a few months ago...Its absolutely amazing to see these dogs work! I even go to work with one not too long ago. That guy had a lot of power behind him!

Sometimes. If a dog won't let go and needs to his air supply will be cut off eventually he will let go.
You have to ask yourself whats worse a dog doing more damage that it should and being PUT DOWN or the dog being choked for a few seconds.

these police officers do not know how to handle a trained protection dog, they dont give him a firm attack command they just say GO, and then to get the dog off they just pull on the collar until the dog releases, instead of using the trained out command. This is dog has gone to waste in this police department, eventually he will forget his training or be selective about how he works and forget he needs a handler.

i agree with you i see so many where the dog bites and cant hardly get the dog to out i have a pitbull and a malinois both in protection and they out clean sometimes my malinois takes 2 outs but where still working on him why have a dog attack if you cant out him what happens if that dog were to go for a kid i doubt the cop could stop the attack

i had a dog like that when i was like 4 but it broke chains and stuff but for some reason it would attack me or bite me. I think he was afraid of me. We gave him to the police tho for training

It was meant to be a joke. The dog is always attacking people in big puffy suits, so if he's sent out to take down a skinny little perp, is he going to get sidetracked by someone who more resembles his training partners, ie a big guy.

This specific dog has no "out" command, or if it does, it hasn't been proofed by the unskilled handler. This doesn't represent all k-9 police dogs in the U.S., but this IS very common.

That is kind of a broad brush to paint with. There are many good Police dogs here in the USA. Don't accuse them all for the actions of a few. However many are trained with Electric collars which I am dead against. This dog can very well have been trained with one, when then don't feel a zap they do not listen. Like when the batteries go dead. They are banded in Europe and they should be banded here.

That dog should OUST!, pull back and bark on the very first command. This is nothing short of a dangerous uncontrollable K-9... Someday that dog will hurt someone if it didn't already happen.. The handler should be embarrassed and concerned!!

You're right though, the dogs should be trained to elt go when the handler tells them to. But don't be so concerned for the fate of someone who did something bad enough to have had a dog lined up against him.

I never said I felt bad for any bad guy.. My point was in this sue happy, video tape world we live in if a K-9 Officer cant make his dog release or in fact if the dog grabs the wrong person which has happened, if that dog doesnt respond on command depts get sued and the K-9 programs are at risk thanks to groups like the ACLU etc. My concern is for innocent bystanders and the K-9 programs themselves.
Shit as for the bad guys the first thing I tell them is "Boy that looks painful" lol

True they don't give you enough room. Anyway none were deleted.. The servers must have been pretty busy.. Sorry for all the comments but this is a sore subject to me and if one other K-9 officer is watching maybe he will take care of this problem if his dog has it and intern save a good program.

If this was real and the dog did not let go because he is electric collar trained and has a high tolerance for pain because of it,
if this was real you have to grab the dog by his nuts to make him let go.. I am not joking!! Those collars are the downfall of many K-9 Programs.. Good old fashion training takes time and it seems many cops like to take the easy way out with these collars... They are band in Europe..

This video worries me. The dog shown has not been trained to end an attack on command. Teaching a dog to attack but not when to stop is dangerous. They should have a way to call the dog off. Also, I'm extremely disappointed in the treatment the dog received. Choking and hanging the dog is inhumane. This is a dog that could one day end up in headlines when it attacks an innocent bystander and the handler is unable to call the dog off.

I agree totally: Before you even train to attack you need to make sure that dog will pull off the bite!!! This dog did not when the cop told him to and is the exact reason why the depts get sued and lose their K-9 programs. this dog was probably trained with and electric collar... The wrong and inhumane way to go!!!

My K-9 Arko would never "not" let go!!! but in case I have the slacked lead..Hes a non electric collar trained K-9 and I get 100 % results all the time. This vid is nothing but trouble and they should be happy they didn't get this guys face!!

when these collars fail this is exactly what happens and the some cops don't know what to do without them. Secondly the lead should never have any tension on it while the dog is on a bite or any other time..

That is NOT a GSD, it is a Belgian Malinois. They are a little more high strung than the Shepherds. Near all police dogs in Europe use only Malinois. They're pretty common in the States as well.

That's not a German Shepherd. Many police K9 units use Malinois. Malinois are generally more reactive and have a higher prey drive, but some police depts prefer German Shepherds b/c they are better at barking (barking and holding before a bite) and are a greater visual deterrence, especially dark sable Czech dogs.

I got to see a police k-9 national competition a few months ago...Its absolutely amazing to see these dogs work! I even go to work with one not too long ago. That guy had a lot of power behind him!
