one last thing , i see you are using too much of your upper arms instead of the whole body weight to produce a much deeper and warmer tone. Same thing happen in your Islamey, you sounded very very good from the beginning and then your weight just started to disappear through out the whole piece, especially the left hand, if you continue to play with your upper arms like that , i think you would break your arms someday.
Well just some of my thoughts, hope they will give you some help :)
if you have to use that much efford for virtuosity?why dont put the efford into music more? why dont just take a careful read of the score, draw out the plan to make the right shape , the right tone, the right build up, it can save a lot of energy for you. I think you are much better than this, you have the technique, you have the control, the imagination, you can win over those virtuosity thing easily, playing fast and loud like a port is only for people who cant do it, but you can!
Also, sorry to say this :( but i couldnt really hear your bass line from 1:44,it just doesnt have enough weight or maybe its becaused of the recording quality?Your accelerando from 1:52 is absolutely superior, however, this is just what i think: i can see you are putting lots lots of efford in bring out Scriabin's fury in this climax, but really,to me,you re using those effords too much for the virtuosity,so loud and so fast,i cant even hear the pinky of the right hand and the chromatic bass line.
Here are some of my thoughts about this beautiful performance:
The beginning is indeed, very very good, but i wasn't impressed much of your phrasing from 1:11, to me it just sounds no more than an exercise of octive, just listen carefully again those lines, u'll see what i meant. At 1:20 (this is just my personal suggestion) maybe you can try bring out another melody line from the left hand, instead of just playing fast and loud the right hand octive?
reminds me of Scrjabin's performance of this piece. It's incredible. You have quite a career going for yourself sir. Godspeed. I love it more than most recordings.
hey jeffrey. it start off: I love this performance.
the only thing i can put to you is this. if youve been listning to the sydney piano competition over the last week a big criticism of some of the performers is the amount of movement of their hands. It tends to distract the audience from the music and take away from the performance in the end.
Jeffrey lee playing without any exaggeration whatsoever. You should see Lang Lang. Anyway, he has to reach double octaves. Its part of the technique. You need to broaden your wrists in order to play without tension in the wrists. And its not the audience that count, its the passion of the music that does.
Very nice man. and mature. only one thing: you fucked the chord before the last one, and some octaves in the bass before this. But 98% of what should be this etude you acomplished. Congradulations. i have recorded it too, I was 18 then. take a look if you like
oh my goodness that was really good! a few questions...how long have you been working on it, and how old are you? love how much force you use, by the way.that's something i'm not too good at in this piece...
lol that was awsome! Uuh could u give me some tips or make another vid but showing the music sheet plz cause my piano teacher sais that i cant play this until im 13 but I wanna start early.
That was amazing. I've been working on this piece for 2 weeks and its really hard. I hate all the stretches in it, but it sounds great. How long have you been working on this?
You have command of the piece. Very commendable! It is a challenging piece. Even better, you have a solid emotional grasp of Skrijabin, which many do not. If your plan is to concertize, I beiieve you have what it takes. Would you divulge; how old you are?
I especially appreciate the position and movement of your hands as part of your technical command.
Holy cow! How do you do that? Your playing is fantastic! Was this piece hard? Well, I know it's hard, but I mean was it technincally difficult....Nevermind I don't know what I am talking about, Lol ANyway, you own this piece, great job!
Great job. Your tempo is fine, but I feel like you need to take a little more time in certain places. This is one of my favorite encore pieces and you certainly do it justice. Keep it up.
the first F is actually marked on the first note of the piece... its an fp :P marked in the manuscript... but ya u may be right about the fff = f thing lol my bad
hmm ya i dont know... my first actual written dynamic marking is also 7... just a lil asterisk above the first note and then a note at the bottom of the page that says "The MS has a fp here" *shrug*
Thanks, detective, I'm glad you brought you brought your analytical expertise to the forum. If only Horowitz had had your tutoring, perhaps he could have played this piece the 'right' way.
wow, i love your interpretation! so many performances lack this kind of passion and energy, which, in my opinion, are completely essential to this piece needs. excellent!!
Jeffrey...excellent...I, unlike the expert critics here on you tube feel that Kissin's intense energy level suits this piece...You seem to play this with a similar energy...I think it's great!
Jeffrey - that Scriabin piece is a favorite of mine - and until I heard your rendition of it, I had always thought that Vladimir Horowitz played it best; now I'm not so sure. You play it wonderfully. Bravo!
Bravo!

i know its a great temptation to simply crash all the chords (i know i wanted to when i was learning it!)
try for more subtlety and control.

where does he put the first "f" first? And it feels like "fff" equals to "f" in this performance from the very beginning
