  • Thank you Plato, Socrates.

Thank you The people who made the documentary

    Thank you The uploader

    Thank you Youtube

  • LOL Mike Savage. What a clown.

  • Thank you!

  • I get it now. You disguise a message in a veil of information. This must be carefully crafted so as to point to certain direction of choice. You use emphasis through music, word or any other expository medium as to maximise emotion in order lo "fixate" the important ideas. The actual message could be of any nature of course, it could go both ways..

  • Enlightening.

  • OH COME ON SOCRATES GIVE US A BREAK!!

  • how can this be an hour and be 5 parts of 10 minutes and a 6th part 6 minutes on discovery where the commercials?

I can see what good this would be since back then people were probably fvcking goats and they wanted to rid society or murderers and criminals and stuff but a lot of the time it gets into these fanciful optimistic overly ideas of optimism idealism. which are worthless.

Also, I think in aristotle nichomachean ethics it says the only good is an end in itself.

    IsaidPl- AH- toe.

  • All i would like to say is thank you for the upload. it was fascinating gaining insight into the republic.

  • This Ring of Gyges, in Plato's Republic, leaves me with no doubt that he is indeed a liar.

Fabricating Socrate's death and other events, all because he could get away with it. What he couldn't grasp was that truth is self-evident and that it ALWAYS shows, because it is the will of God that it be that way.

    Sorry, Plato.

  • Analyzing Plato and making claims and accusations is rather pointless, given the lack of sources to even prove that any of ones accusations might be true. And even if the claims and accusations were to be true; his works are still very valid. The Ring of Gyges is a story to set apart the just man from the unjust. Or what people may do when given power without accountability.

And if god has seen to it that truth is self-evident, why then are the thoughtless masses always lead astray from it.

  • His words provoke thought - to which I responded above.

God has seen to it that truth is accessible, and also that people may choose to walk away from it. And if they are not so wise as to heed the shimmering warnings laid out before them, so be it - they may be let out into the wild to be captured by the wicked and burned alive.

    I pray for you.

  • They may also be let out into the wild right from birth to be indoctrinated into belief of things they never had a chance to contemplate over on their own, like some of us do who had the luck of reaching the age of reason intact without external influences.

The closed mind are the only one that is certain of it's beliefs, and never bothers with taking one or several steps back to critically examine it's convictions from time to time.

No need to pray for me, i have no void that needs filling.

  • Well, it might please you to know that I was not always a Christian. I was sent to a Catholic school as a child, hated and rejected it, and remained an Atheist for most of my teenage years.

Now that I've come to "the age of reason", I've found that there are greater things than myself - namely, God and Christ.

Can I ask why you have so much disgust for theists?

  • Doesnt please me much to hear that, more so that you found what you were looking for on your own.

Disgust would be wrong to say, i have little to none of those feelings towards anything really. Tired is closer to the truth. Most of the time i don't know why i even bother to comment back on some things instead of just letting it be.

It's the constant arrogance and the whole 'pray for you' i deal with all too often from theists, whenever i bump into them, as if i done something wrong.

  • @Tyrfingr

I completely agree. The closed mind has nothing to gain, and everything to lose. Yet what is worse, is he who believes his mind is open, that he is wise, and that his message is one to be heard. Religion is famous for such a view.

Why must logic and discussion be removed and replaced with religion and context of the bible. Bear your own words and experience, and allow the words of the dead to remain in books, unless you are willing to defend them with an open mind.

    -Peace

  • TheCrystalRiver,I doubt you were an atheist at all. I think the proper name you should give it is a lost person who didn't knew what to believe, so he declared he believed nothing. Of course, you were unconsciously lying.

I don't declare also the "age of reason", like you said. I would say it's the day you found the proper belief that you had. It's not an universal knowledge, it's a subjective belief that you have.

Tyrfingr doesn't hate the theist, but the way you said it led to some conclusions.

  • Maybe some conclusions were not right; however, it's the subjective perception that lead us to such views. Moreover, I think, personally, that your premise "I pray for you" was a little out of hand, even though you meant no drama for it. It would have been better if you said "God bless". Either way, you can write whatever you wish. I was just clarifying. :)

  • @philobiology

Well, I was an Atheist lol you can believe that.

Didn't mean to get outta hand... although I knew most would not appreciate it; saying "I'll pray for ya" is more meaningful than "God bless" lol

    Have a good one dude!

  • RY:

I'm not very observant enough to understand Plato's logical theories on man. I'm just new to my world of learning, still.
