My first card was a PCI Radeon 9250 I got it because the onboard graphics sucked and wanted something better I could game on but didn't have a lot of money to spend.
No, but it did have a passthrough connector so you could use a workstation 3d(!) card and not need to have 2 monitors or switch the monitor to the other card when you wanted to do 3d work.
Back in the day several companies threatened to make a tv tuner card that supported that type of pass-through but I don't think anything came of it.
