Good, I like that you share this video, I wish success always I did not spend too much time on this video (you can tell). It's more of an information video
Nice Video That You Share , So Very Nice Thanks You This video shows the fault on a HP Pavilion laptop. The laptop simply doesn't power up. No screen, no backlighting, not POST no boot
I Really Like The Video From Your This laptop is over 2 years old. This is the 3rd time I have had this exact same fault. HP have replaced the systemboard twice before under warranty.
I have a Hp dv6000. One post said the truth! My personal like is the Apple Computers there the best, top dollar top service. All my other computers are HP though. Only one Apple in the house but its an Ipad which is great. I have the same problem with dv6000 model but when I start the computer up I keep tapping the esc button till the screen come up then stop! Always seems to work for us hope that helps.
I remember when mine had the exact same issue. Eventually we just put it in a car and were meaning to get rid of it. I just happened to try to turn it on for kicks and the screen came on. Not that I'd want to use it anymore, its fan was way too loud. I've moved away from HP since then.
Try this youtube.com/watch?v=CwWW1AigMCE&feature=related. This has just fixed my HP DV9500 by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL whilst booting up until you get HP logo. Today it booted up without any problem. Suggests a driver issue rather than "mechanical".
Problem is with the gcpu. Take unit apart an take heat soldier tourch to gcpu and heat it up, use a heat shield so that you don't damage surround components. Then take some thing and apply pressure to the gcpu. Wait a moment or two for it to cool, this will allow the soldier to firm in place. Easy fix, takes about an hour and a half.
I bought me one of those with the same fault. I'd attempt to repair it thinking it might be the GPU but it turns out it's not but most other brands' laptops are GPU related. Every top brand laptops are affected by the cursed faulty Nvidia GPU chip from 2006 to 2009.
I would still buy HP laptop, in fact I'm currently using two business model laptops. They are brilliant, I would say better than Sony.
The brands everyone should avoid are Advent, Ei-systems & Parckard Bell.
I have to agree with you mate. I purchased a DV6000 back in November 2007. My issue was with the battery. I was unable to use the laptop without having it plugged in all the time.
I purchased it from Best Buy with a warranty, which Best Buy refused to honor. Anyways, I would NEVER purchase another HP laptop. Matter of fact, I will never purchase another pc period. The HP dv6000 episode totally turned me off from HP and from pc period!
I went thru 3 laptops in 1 year, all HP, all rubbish. I switched to Apple and have had no problems. 2005 Powerbook g4, no issues. Replaced the HDD once. MBP 2.4 no issues. 3 Years later later sold it for more than half of what I paid. My new MBP, no issues. I had to let go of the plastic stuff. I pay a little more with Mac but the build quality is fairly good and I have few issues with them.
*How can I test the CMOS to see if it is working correctly
Disconnect AC adapter! remove battery and cmos battery
, hold the button for 15 seconds to clear the CMOS. Now hold the PWR button down, and at the same time insert the adapter into the DC JACK. The lights should come on for about 5 sec. then go off. Release the PWR Button. Now attempt to power on normally. Sometimes this works when the CMOS settings are bad.
@asistolos this worked for me since it would not power on at all, only to find out the lights would finally come on but it won't boot up. i think the ribbons cables may be bad from overheating. i think for a brief second i saw artifacts on the screen so my gpu may need to be re-fried
@cyigearup2 , try one of the 3 solutions to see if it is the cable 1) try pressing the power button and imediatelly remove the ribon cable from the motherboard 2) check if the media centre ribbon and the power ribbon cables are the same and use the ribbon cable from the media centre to the power button, or 3) you can try with the remote control if you have one with the ribbon cable of the power button removed.

@shadowk33 that's right it's something in the bios you have to send your computer to someone you trust and he will open it and look for something in the bios it's not the whole bios that's not the problem it's a chip in the bios may be something else but it is definitely a hardware issue i assure you that dude just like how i told i fixed mine by doing that. thank u
@ventureelect nope i changed my gpu it was 9400gt to gtx550 and it was the same the problem was the motherboard i changed the mobo and now my pc works good
try this..... remove the battery and disconnect the power cord. . . then press and hold the power button for 30 secs - 1min. . . then connect just the power cord back... dont insert the battery yet, now turn ur laptop on the normal way now, if you turn it on now your laptop should come on, but if it doesnt't try again. now that its on, shut it down properly , after shut down you can now insert ur battery and then turn ur laptop on the normal way... voila. . .
I had an hp tx1000 and that had the same problem. Fixes were only temporary. On the 3rd time I just salvaged the ram and hdd and threw the rest in to electro garbage. NEVER AGAIN HP
We bought our daughter a Compaq desktop for college in 2000 and then spent six months fighting them to fix the faulty video card. I will never buy Compaq again - but HP did!
Bought my wife a DV6000 some years ago and it now shares the same fate as thousands of others'. Apparently HP truly did absorb Compaq. Never HP/Compaq again!
nothing wrong with the motherboard.. it's the GPU, gets to hot and loses connection with the mainboard. modify the cooler with a copper shim underneath the gpu to disperse the heat. also use a cooling pad whenever you are using a laptop.
I have a problem last night when i tried to turn off my laptop it turned off two seconds later turned on by itself then i turned it off again it did it again after the third atempted it turned off?
I got one with the same exact problem. Failed right after the warranty was up, called up said it would cost $350+ to send it in for repair. And that would come with a 3 month warranty after that, and frankly for a $1k laptop a 3 month warranty doesnt cover the cost. My model is the DV6755us. Iv also read that it is a GPU problem. I think its either a motherboard fault or LCD. After watching this video, Id say faulty motherboards.
I had the same problem and was at my wit ends until i tested the CPU and long and behold i got a new AMD chip and it works great. What happens is that the cpu gets so hot that the heat builds up because HP has alumna under the heat sink so i added a copper plate about .030 thick and also added the same to the GPU let it over hang both chips so it will dissipate the heat. You can get a AMD chip on ebay for like $9.
@blackbeard269 That doesnt make sense. I havent seen a pavilion that has an AMD chipset, but even so AMD cpus run at a higher voltage than the Intels therefore would generate more heat and consume more power. Cooling could be the problem, but Id say its faulty motherboards. Iv had mine apart, and given the hardware the cooling inside it should be plenty for normal use.
Im pretty sure its a ribbon cable... unless this has been solved and im out of the look. plus the wireless card went as well instead of repair i might as well just buy a new one. bah.
i have a hp pavilion dv6000 and the white power button does not work what so ever so you have to touch the button next to the quickplay play button that looks like a uturn button and it turns on :D hopes it works
TotAlly agree with you I bought my hp dv6000 series laptop 2 years later it needs a new motherboard. From what I have been told by a computer store. So I did some research on the net and I found out that this was a common problem with this laptop series. I wanted to buy a new lap top so I contacted HP and asked them if they would give me an additional discount if I bought a laptop from them and they denied me. I defuse to spend 300 to fix an old laptop which will break down on me again. HP doe
Hey man it's the video card I have a gateway alienware with the same problem and I took the cover off on the part where your power button is, I took that whole thing off and there will be a cable going to the LCD from the display adapter from the motherboard. All I had to do was unplug the monitor and plug it back in and it worked perfectly again. And as I said I had the same exact problem.
there is a bad connection between the mother board and the hard drive, HP actually recalled all the DV6000 laptops due to this error, so just throw the stupid thing away it can not be fixed its a manufacture error and the stupid thing is they wont replace it for free bull crap if you ask me but whatever
I bought DV6000 at costco in Canada back in early-mid 2007. No problems but now the cpu is very very loud and warms up quite a bit. I will not buy another HP laptop. I ran this one to the ground but it is probably not as durable as Asus laptop which will be my next.
i have dv6000 and my laptop won't boot anymore...i tried to repair 5 times and after few weeks, the problem backs...my laptop bought 5 years ago..
solution
cover your laptop with a blanket then wait for 15 - 30 minutes before your laptop warm...and start it...it works on me...NO PAYING...THUMBS UP IF WORKING..=)
One thing is assured HP-compaq is going to see their worst days coming... They don't know the effect of viral marketing! their reputation is going to get them thrashed out of the market...
HP Labtops SUCK!....I blew 700.00 on a dv-6...and it sucks ..it wont boot up..and it's the second one I got from them..the first one only lasted 6 months..now this one won't work..GARBAGE!!!!!
mine goes through the same issue, only that the mainboard or whatever makes a beep sound (3 times) I let in on for a couple of minutes, then I turn it off, then I turn it back on... and then the hp logo comes up.
@Steffezor after the beeps, I leave it on for a while and try the whole thing again... sometimes I just turn it off once... sometimes I have to try more times...
@reoreason If they refuse to repair it take them to the small claims court. This IS a manufacturing design/ fault, cant prove it but being a technician i have seen this problem arise with many different laptops dating 2006-7.
Try a copper shim to lower your gpu temps 15%. Only $5 and includes thermal paste. Search for "DV6000 Copper Shim" on ebay. Works with any HP TX1xxx/DVxxxx model or Compaq Vxxxx/Fxx models.
Yes, because Mac's never have anything wrong with them? And you are also shit out of luck when the warranty runs out, just like the common HP, Dell, etc. Apple makes decent products, but they are even worse trying to get them fixed out of warranty and much more expensive to boot.
Same SHIP happens to me after i install a software from the HP Official site !! after it reboots the laptop start doing this to me too HP 6930 !! I try even take out the RCT Battrey but didn t fixed my Problem! This was First and Last HP laptop that i buy
Same BS just happened to my room mates laptop about a month ago. When we finally had time to call hp support they said the recall period had just expired last month or something like that.
Here is d solution to ur problem. Lose the battery and remove 5 screws and 1 inside Ram cover, turn back the computer and open the power cover and U will see the Two cables: one for Power and the other 4 speaker. The one for power is named AWM E2896 80C VM-1 and SPEAKER KOLT E..20798 80C 60V VM-1 (depending on the cable name in ur computer), just copy yours and search for it, probably, you will see it in EBAY, cost almost $10. change those cables, you are guarantee 100% the problem will be solve
Purchased an HP dv2000 fresh out the box and 2 years later screen begin turning pink periodically then eventually black. HP wanted 400 dollars to fix. I also have a MAC PRO and MAC BOOK 2006 not one problem from either in 4 years. HP KICK ROCKS!!!!!
In October 2009, my son's 2 year-old HP DV2000 laptop's screen went black, all lights working, hard drive spinning etc and HP advised that the motherboard on this model had a design flaw regarding over heating. HP replaced the motherboard for $245, because they said that the recall period had elasped.
In September 2010, my girlfriend's 2-3 year-old HP DV6000 laptop failed. I bought my daughter a Sony and my girlfriend a Toshiba laptop. HP will never get a cent !
I have a HP pavilion DV6-3015sa and it is my 3rd one in two weeks, all with a fault where the backlight doesn't always come on when it comes out of hibernate, I am suspicious as to whether this is a software fault as opposed to a hardware fault.
i have the same damn computer and the same damn problem. It takes me forever to start the thing - I have to restart it over until it finally turns on.
Try my copper shim instead of the stock thermal pad to greatly lower gpu temps. It is a perfect fit and only $5. Comes with thermal paste free. Search for "dv6000 copper shim on ebay".
At first, try to use crt monitor to see if the vga card is still fine, if you have a display on crt monitor then check or replace lcd check the inverter also, if no display still exist in crt monitor, then the vga card is currupt, heating the vga card does help on it, if same problem persist even heating the vga card, check the p.fa, and the processor, if no luck, you will end up to replace the motherboard, just be sure that processor, ram and p.fan is fine and the lcd and inverter.
exact same thing happened to my dv6000 series, in fact ive never had an hp that has lasted more than a few months, this touchsmart tm2 laptop i bought 2 months ago the touch serfice is already experiencing random failures. i will never, and i highly suggest that all of you never, buy an hp computer ever again.
I have the exact same issue with the same HP DV6000 Tech told me it was the Motherboard & wanted to charge me 290.00 I refused to pay to fix it. It's all over the net everyone has the same issue with HP I will never buy one again it's a wrap !!!!!
I just received back my computer. It had the same problem. Thanks God I purchased Sams Club extended warranty for an additional 3 years. This is the second time I had this problem fixed. First with HP, and now under Sam's Club. I'm never going to buy another HP again.
Try my copper shim to lower you gpu temp and keep the no video problem away. Only $6 and comes with thermal paste free. Search for "dv6000 copper shim" on ebay.
Yes, it's a problem with an nVidia chip on the GPU. It overheats and then fails without warning. My son's system did this and I played *ell getting HP to fix it - even though it was in warranty! I guess I should be expecting his to re-fail shortly as it's been about 1 year since the repair! 6-30-2010 nyteshade!
I have an HP Pavillion dv6. I called them on 6/8/10 to report the laptop couldn't power on even after I cleared the capacitor, and they told me the warranty already expired on 6/4/10. They consider the contact-day as the day the laptop actually broke. What a joke. They offered to fix it with a charge of $398 + tax, but the laptop costed me $802 after tax. Will I ever buy an HP laptop again? F**K NO!
I have the same fault with My TX2520EA a tablet laptop
I recently got it repaired got it back, and quiet literally within 1 day, its now broke again, they replaced the motherboard, but again worked fine on the day i got it back, now, doesnt work at all again.
For my laptop the charger sucks! at some moments if it barely moves it stops charging and if i have 100% charged battery it runs out like in 4 minutes
I'm so pissed off, I'm a Certified IT Technician, so obviously, knowing my stuff, I cracked open my DV6000 to apply a new heatsink/thermal paste on everything as because it was overheating after trying to use canned air. I put the machine back together, tried to fire it up, POOF! No fucking video! OMFG, the first t hing that ran through my head was that I broke my own laptop and I'm supposed to fix these things for a living! Then I realized how many recalls are out for that same problem...
Sorry to hear about yr continues issue! If that was a Dell I could more or less promise you that they would have swapped your laptop for another model, and a brand new onw at that. I know this from personal experiance that Dell stand by their products.
This also happened to me around 4 days ago the screen went black i manually powered it down when to reboot it and the exact same thing happened to me as in the movie... but i had the motherboard replaced 2 months ago by a outside company dunno if they did something wrong installing it though.
Okey,im using the same model laptop but different series..its Pavilion dv6768se white colour bt i havent encounter any serious prb yet besides the touch pad.
same fuckin problem here, got my laptop aug. 07 its a dv6446us it was fine till my usb ports(yes all 3 shorted out), so i finally replaced the motherboard jan this year and now this crap! never buying hp again
well my does the same thing but i got it started keyboard was malfunctioning then i had to unistall keyboard no keyboard removal and then i got it to work the blue glowing buttons no longer work and now as soon as i start my computer the whole time i use it the fan is constantly running no noises just the fan blowing constantly wont turn off its loud fan lol
@Clan4QUP buy a dell Hp are fckin con men, mine done this shit yesterday not even 2 years old but out of warranty so they wont do shit. Mine is going for a swim in the mersey in less than an hour
Facing the same problem. I have hp pavillion dv6501eo amd processor 2.5 yrs old. I could only restart after some say 5-6 hrs to get it work. I have no idea how to fix this. Please dont buy this shit. No help/response from hp about this problem. waste of time.
hp dv6000 came with that problem, but only the AMD . the intel do not ahve this problem.. this is do to the over heat of the mother borad where sometimes the fan stop working.......i do know this but i dont knwo how to fix it so if u do plzz let me know ty
i've got the same problem as well. dv2000 2.5 yrs old. at the moment i'm using my old dell inspiron 700m(5yrs old) whilst waiting for me new dell inspiron 1545. i swear to God not to buy this shit againhp. I've wasted enough of time. money and effort just to fix my hp especially i'm studying. i will tell my all relatives and friends not to waste their money on hp.
I have same laptop. My computer is 2 and half year old. No picture, only black screen. One solution is that you use a another monitor. First you unlink your laptop screen (it's under power off button), then u connect another screen to laptop (HP dv6000 own screen unlinked). And then u need to uninstall video drivers(nvidia geforce 7400 i got) in safemode. Restart and it's running without video drivers but works. Sorry for my bad english.
I just wanna say, I´m on charge of a univesity buying departament in México, im the owner of an HP pavilion dv6000(=whiteshit) I´m sure that I won´t ever buy HP shit for the univ. and I will suggest not to buy that shit to my university similars.
I have same problem and solution. I pwr-on, blue lights across top come on , CD drive clicks. After ~ 10 secs pwrs off, self starts. Continues this all day.
Following works for me. Hold pwr bttn down 20-30 sec so doesn't pwr on itself. Push pwr bttn, get ready to push ESC . When message flashes on lower left screen push ESC. Select change boot order, select internal hard drive (the default). It should boot. May have to do two or three time. Now if I could open it I could change the noisy fan.
Its almost a year since you posted this video ..any luck with your issue ? Did HP helped ??
I got the same problem and I am in double minds whether to buy a new new one or go for motherboard replacement. I am leaning towards the former one with a vow not to buy any HP products in future...
Ok what you have is a failure on the main board regarding the video card...it is a known issue with that model HP same thing happened to mine. After 2 years...i called HP and even though the factory warranty was up...they agreed to fix it for me, for free in fact I had it back within 2 weeks
My HP laptop's fan makes too loud noise while on AC power ... the CPU usage is ~ 0-1% !! the fan vents are clean. it does not make that noise while on battery .. very annoying problem !! please help me if u know anything related. thx
did you use the correct adaptor? cause it may be too much voltage going to the battery at one time, thus making the computer to process pretty 'violent' although the Task Manager did not state it.
i sooo feel like smashing mine uhggggggg me whant to smash it

After that soft reboot when the lights come back on, did you try this:
Hold down the function key, and press the display button repeatedly. (F4 key on most models)
It will turn on.

try this..... remove the battery and disconnect the power cord. . . then press and hold the power button for 30 secs - 1min. . . then connect just the power cord back... dont insert the battery yet, now turn ur laptop on the normal way now, if you turn it on now your laptop should come on, but if it doesnt't try again. now that its on, shut it down properly , after shut down you can now insert ur battery and then turn ur laptop on the normal way... voila. . .

You can get a AMD chip on ebay for like $9.
blackbeard269 11 months ago
@blackbeard269 That doesnt make sense. I havent seen a pavilion that has an AMD chipset, but even so AMD cpus run at a higher voltage than the Intels therefore would generate more heat and consume more power. Cooling could be the problem, but Id say its faulty motherboards. Iv had mine apart, and given the hardware the cooling inside it should be plenty for normal use.

Im pretty sure its a ribbon cable... unless this has been solved and im out of the look. plus the wireless card went as well instead of repair i might as well just buy a new one. bah.

And as I said I had the same exact problem.

it's not a design fault. it's meant to break down soon, so hp can rip you off more.

@reoreason If they refuse to repair it take them to the small claims court. This IS a manufacturing design/ fault, cant prove it but being a technician i have seen this problem arise with many different laptops dating 2006-7.

Yes, because Mac's never have anything wrong with them? And you are also shit out of luck when the warranty runs out, just like the common HP, Dell, etc. Apple makes decent products, but they are even worse trying to get them fixed out of warranty and much more expensive to boot.

In October 2009, my son's 2 year-old HP DV2000 laptop's screen went black, all lights working, hard drive spinning etc and HP advised that the motherboard on this model had a design flaw regarding over heating. HP replaced the motherboard for $245, because they said that the recall period had elasped.

Hello!
