Wow! Because of this song, all I wanted was a girl named, Gloria. Instead, I ran into Rama-Lama-Ding-Dong and she changed my mind. This is a great video!
Gloria" is an interesting story. The song was written by Leon Rene, a New Orleans Creole songwriter who, with and without his brother Otis, wrote such songs as Louis Armstrong's theme, "When It's Sleepytime Down South," "I Sold My Heart To The Junkman" and "When The Swallows Come Back To Capistrano." In 1945, Leon formed Exclusive Records and had tremendous success with "The Honeydripper" by Joe Liggins.
Hi Milly, just look at my list of songs ,i have many more like this and look at the people i'm subscribed to ,many of them have doo wop music.Or just do a search on Doo Wop music and you'll find all u want.
Brings me back to a time on the street corners of Paterson, NJ when we would get together and sing doo wop accapella, Gloria was always our first song, ahhhh, the memories.
We still do that. I can never forget this music. True it's out of my time period but my friends and I always love singing on the corners. You can never forget the oldies.
Earl Lewis & The Channels, to me they are the greatest Doo Wop group out there, AWESOME!!!! But all the groups are fantastic, i just love Earl's group!!!
Not to be a ditz but is FALSETTO/male for Soprano/Female? Either way, I'm in LUV L-U-V with Earl Lewis and those high notes! Yowza! Saw him sing this on the PBS Special a few years ago and went crazy! ;-) Besides he's short, just my type! ;-) TY for posting/sharing, and to TJ Labinsky for the awesome Doo Wop Specials on PBS. I was turned on to DooWop in early 1990s when I took Ballroom Dancing, Frankie Lyman, etc., great swing music!
All of their versions of Gloria are pretty good, but I like the original by The Cadillacs. The groups are The Cadillacs, The Legends (recorded by Jimmy Gallagher, lead singer of The Passions), Golden Group Memories (recorded by Vito, lead singer of The Salutations), and Earl Lewis and The Channels. I am 34 years old, but I love Doo Wop and it will live on forever.
Doo wop will live forever as long as young folks like you enjoy. I danced to Vito and the Salutations at CYO (ask your Mom) record hops and I still get goose bumps...
Sorry but Earl Lewis and the Channels have the best version, Earl with his Falsetto voice is one of the best. Jimmy Gallagher is also one fine singer, but Earl has him bet.
Long live doowop and may all the groups continue to keep the music alive. In Harmony
The Cadillacs was the orignal of this song but i myself like Earl lewis and The Channels version the best..I been listening to doo wop and oldies all my life..Its a art of my life i'm 29 and it wont EVER change..thanks for the great music
This was just marvelous. They all had their own styles and all did it with such class from an era that made real music. Thanks for the video.

Cool cats, dressed stylish and singing
romantic songs that made the chicks swoon.
That what doo-wop is about.

Then theres the Shadows of Knight doing
G-L-O-R-I-A which is really a completely different song and was a dud compared to these hits. Another vote for Earl Lewis!
