A decent version. The guitar playing is good but it always feels a bit odd hearing someone without his hugely different voice playing his songs. As such it feels a bit thin. But qudos for even knowing who John Darnielle is, let alone making a decent fist of the song.
Mountain Goats songs are usually fairly easy to play, but slightly harder to play correctly. They're good songs to learn with.
As for the vocals. It's hard for me on certain songs that aren't in my perfect range to sing out loud enough to be heard clearly over my guitar, it's something I'm working on.
i like you better when you're not trying to be all morbid and depressing. usually i'd think that a mountain goats cover would be completely blasphemous but i think that you do the song justice. :] this was entertaining.
Thank you. As a somewhat shitty musician, I can successfully pull off very few covers, but I'm arrogant enough to think that I do a fairly good job with Mountain Goats songs. I've been a big fan for a while, and me and John seem to be predisposed to a nearly identical playing style (at least on his older stuff). I feel really natural playing his songs, and I'm glad that another fan approves of it.
Firstly, thank you! As for the capo, I've seen him play live before and noticed that he rarely ever plays with a capo, but based on the chord voicings on the album version, I believe he used a capo. There are a lot of little lead melodies that sit on top of the chords on the album, and playing with a capo seems to be the best way to achieve them. That's my opinion, and I might be wrong. Again, though, separate from all the pure speculation on technical details, thank you for your comment!

your playing is really pretty. do you write your own songs? if you don't, you should try--i bet they'd be great.

great song, great cover! hats off to you sir.
why you tagged "shittyguitarplaying" I never know! Looked and sounded great to me.
I wish I played just enough to play mountain goat songs (i can just about strum out the intro to alpha rats nest!)
only thing i will say is your voice was slightly drowned out by the guitar, so couldn't hear the great singing and great lyrics all that well.
Apart from that 5 stars! Nice work!
