@martimax34 I like the first bit. A pal used the first bit for a Vid (with permission) Somehow I have to fix the flute parts. I tried to contrast it, Avante guarde (me slightly) and an old American Civil War type tune with flute at the end. I showed it to a pal who said it doesn't work... But I think it can if I do it right... This was the first time I thought about writing in parts... The pics are amazing. Esp the convicts wearing Barrels as punishment. Thanks for your opinion Pascal !!!
@martimax34 Also the guy pointing the gun at the camera. You just know he has killed many times... Look at his eyes... Thanks for watching. Great to hear opinions from other musicians. You can even say what doesn't work. I accept all constructive criticism. The only way I will learn. Thanks again Pascal. You rock !!!! :))))
@marcoacca Thamks Mrco. It was a bit tentative. I tried to start with slightly abstract playing. the flute could be better. But there is a tune inside worth hearing. The pics are amazing I think ! Part of this was used in a film by a Director pal frpm Greece.. I will send it to you. his channel is great. Worth a look. Glad you saw his one. Andy :))
I always had a special interest in the American Civil War. When I was younger I read all I could find about it and I watched every movie and TV show about it. I hope you realize what a teriffic job you`ve done with this video. Many of these images are new to me, Andy you`re something else. The piano work is lovely, perfect for these images. I wish you could afford real strings though hahahahaha. You have a lot of talent Andy(-: 5 stars, and they are well deserved.
The strings lol. One pic has a guy, glaring at the camera, aiming at the cameraman.Glad you liked the vid. Always had an interest in that War too. May do a World War 2 one soon. Didn't want this one to be to dark. Still trying ideas out. Always wanted to do a Western Soundtrack though.
Thanks for watching. The pics are great. They often don't come out so well on the screen. But there is a lot going on in them for sure. Nice to hear from you again. Andy
Thanks for having a look. I thought I had replied, but it is not up!! YT!!!!! Sorry for the late reply. Glad you liked the vid!! Hope to do a few more soon. Andy
Back for another look, experimenting huh?? All progress begins with an experiment, you should be very proud of this video. The photographs are poignant and I love it musically, the piano followed by the flute really captures the atmosphere. Well Done....
You are always welcome, Sandi. It is strange when you make these things cause you get so close to them. I wish I can step back and listen to it like someone does for the first time. Then you post it and go. Aaaarrgh I should have done this or that. But then it would never be out. So many pics I could have used!!! I may well do a similar type of thing later. Thanks for watching and all your generous support. It is much appreciated!! Andy xx
The music goes perfectly with the pictures Andy! The change to the flute half way works well with the images too...very compelling!! Amazes me that they had photos back then...I remember the first ones were done on Tin I believe..Endless stars my friend:)
The cameras back then were huge!!! Hell to lug around, easily broken too. Picture taking must have been a big event. A different world.. The ex slaves in one of the pics turn out in their best clothes outside their run down shacks. It took a special kind of person to capture these images under such conditions. Thanks for the stars. Great comment. Great hearing from you. Andy xx
lovely, yet sad. what a god awful time "the civil war"..your music was perfect for this video, it went well with the mood.
a client of mine sells and buys anything to do with the civil war...even does exhibits for schools and is always so enthusiastic when talking about it, however, it still feels like a dark era to me..makes me cringe a bit.
It is a war unlike any other. A time of great change. And not that long ago!! People often forget the poor blokes and women who were trapped in their private battles. There is a lot going on in these pics. Vids about war often make me cringe too. I tried musically to do something reflecting the time. The music from this period is worth checking out. Thanks for watching. Great comment Rose. Andy xx
Beautiful poignant piece Andy. Each note trembles in the air before me. Your flute addition was sweet and pleasant and gave your piece an opening feeling. ***** Mary
Ya know what Andy? You rock! Kudos for your love of experimental avenues both with your attempts at making music and videos. Keep it up and you'll someday hit the motherload! ;)
Sounds painful!! Got to keep trying new things. I want to try out animation and make some short films. I have just brought some editing software. Thanks for your support as always Mep. I may do a punk tune next. Not sure. Thanks again. Andy xx
Wonderful view to the history. You have a unique way of choosing pics..Impressive and interesting collection here too. Loved the tune, especially the "flutey hymn thing" was just awesome! New from you, liked a lot, thank you Andy :)
Thanks Paivi. I try things out. May have made a mess of the end of it, not sure. It's hard for me to not criticize my own stuff. It was originally going to be a song. But you know me and singing.. Maybe the phrase 'flutey thing' is being a bit harsh. lol Maybe I will change it... Very glad you liked it. Andy XX
It's not just the subject matter of the pics but the way they look...b&w (of course), dark, gloomy, the facial expressions of the people. It all adds to the mood of the times and the events.
I liked the transition from piano to strings. It's interesting to see your style evolving with each video you make.
Thanks Dave for the great comment. I try different things out with mixed results. But I have a go. After listening to the track a few times and tweaking it, I start to stare at the comp like those guys do. Thanks for your support. It means alot.
Well done Andy, many kudos on the presentation. Musically I think you hit this spot on.....Great pics as well. My original ancestor to this country fought in this war for the North.....
I was very moved by looking at how young some of those boys were. Thank you......
Great comment. Glad you liked it Sandi. Didn't want to be to heavy musically, more reflective than blue. These pictures say so much. The kids do look so young. We owe a debt to those early photographers for keeping History alive. Thanks again. It means a lot! Andy xx
Yeah, I think you choose well, the music sets the mood. Right I don't think people really think about the photographers who are.there physically to record these events for history. A lot of credit must be given to them, it can't be easy. In the last several years in Iraq and Afghanistan many reporters and their media crew have lost their lives covering these historical events and we forget that. Remember all the iconic images we have from Vietnam, these images tell a story....
Thanks Jeff, I quite like the slightly unusual. Could have put loads of pics of Generals with huge beards and the dead of battle. But that isn't what interests me. At least not now. One of the interesting pics is escaped prisoners being punished by wearing barrels. Thanks for watching and rating, and of course commenting. Andy
The thing about these pictures - hard to get more than a glimpse of who these folks really were - I've often wondered what some of the folks whose stare bores right through you were thinking about. And I wonder about all the labor that went into creating their technology & way of life... wonder what it was really like... the music helps transport me there... Nice, Andy...
Hi Scott, I do the same thing. I get the feeling that life was hard back then. Those taught faces. When I was looking up the pics I noticed something. Those lying dead on the fields of battle all looked similar. Their clothes were ruffled where they, or friends, would be trying to get at the bullet. Gruesome info, sorry. Just something I noticed. Glad you liked the vid, Sott. Great hearing from you, as always. Andy
Another wonderful creation Andy, your a master of Music and Pictures, fits together so well like Cheese on Toast, I would love to know were you find your pictures, so much history in 4.32 minutes, all the stars my friend.
Thanks Matt, The pics are amazing! So much in them. I have a house full of them. I stumble a lot, but I am starting to get what I hear out. I will have to practice scales sometime!! I always add marmite to my cheese and toast. Highly recommended! C U again soon.
Andy I think your piano work behind this compliments it a lot. At the beginning I sense hesitancy which is perfect because these images invoke remembrance of a dark time. Then the next movement made me concentrate on the people. Whether they were wrong or right, they were a part of humanity...a part of us.
Blazing Cannons, son! you've created another Toracube masterpiece!!!!!
such feeling for the emotions,..this is exactly how I feel looking at civil war pics....images of a "growing pains", a tragic point of history--, ideal against ideal, man against man, against brother and kin, against the elements,......and we call life hard........love your mind transferred to the keys, friend Andy.....sprinked with love I can hear it.....your fan, LaurieLee
Thanks Laurie. Actually there is a song with words and all. I pulled out of doing it at the last min. Things to look out for, Abe's death-bed (blood on the pillow), a guy in a cannon (you cant photograph a cannon without someone getting into one. People never change). I was going to put up the pics of the Generals, but it' s not about that to me. It's about the little people, trying to survive the mess the best they can. It's not a history lesson, but man, there is history in this!!!
caught both--my eye the student i think has kinship w/yours...another time perhaps toracube will favor us with the "full version" , or not:-) LOL,...you da man.......
I'm glad we didn't let the southern states secede from the Union. Most have seen the error of their way, but still...pockets of people that rant and fly the rebel flag around here...wearing their shame.
What a bloody mess the Civil War was (pardon the pun). I suppose it got us going in the right direction, but to think that the war that was waged so bitterly and did little to change the minds of the people that thought blacks were inferior. I've tried to get into the minds of the people that hated others for their skin color and I just can't fathom that position. A blessing.
Agree totally. I toyed with putting some terrible pics in (the dead/ injured) but that would have been much too easy. There is so much going on in these pics , it isn't necessary. Hope I was respectful to them. The race thing will never go away. And it's 2009!! It was an amazing time though. Glad you liked the vid. Andy
In a metaphoric way it's akin to Auschwitz. We've all seen enough of the horror that even seeing a soldier of that era with a gun reminds us of the terrible pictures in our mind. Great work here!
I loved also this one ! The first part could'nt be better in my humble opinion , because the hesitating style is perfect for the rebirth subject !!!
Another great video !!!
