Mythbusters should test this out. But AFAIK it's actually quite hard using normal blade or wire to slice off our bones unless you cut through the weakest part of the joint. Butchers should know this very well. The laser is just... too power-consuming.

The girl on ghost ship was short and thus the wire just missed her head athough she hung by a noose in a closet shortly after and becomes a good ghost to help defeat the bad ones in that film.
