Tinny, losing 80% of your body heat through your head is a myth. You actually lose around 7% while at rest. It can spike to around 50% during exercise but only momentarily. Covering exposed skin while cold is always a good idea of course - head and feet. :)
There is really something organic looking about hammock camping setups. Without the tarp and colored like Tinny's setup it appears like a giant pupa or egg case. Thanks for the vid. For 40 years I was a groundling and now I will never sleep in the dirt again. Thanks HF!
I, personally, love to have an underquilt and a top quilt pairing. Collectively, they weigh less than a sleeping bag that half of it is compressed by the weight of your body. It is very comfortable since you have less restrictive movement and you are not laying on a pad that alters the hammock lay in any way. Good luck with your testing.
my eno ember underquilt which is very similar to a peapod as it is full encompassing compresses down to the same as a non down mummy sleeping bag for zero degree f. the winter military mummy bag if youve seen that one. not to small but its all you need with long jons.
Nice to see you at it Tinny. Hammocks are like alcohol stoves....takes a wee bit of time and testing but worth it if they take.
Whooooooo Buddy.

Pea pod is easily 2x the size of your Montbell. Even though the down is hq the nylon shell they use is bulky

Using a sleeping bag and pad in a hammock is like using rubbing alcohol in a stove.
- You have a nice hammock. Now is the time to invest in an under quilt (mandatory in my book) and a top quilt (not mandatory, but nice).

@MrJackpoppy It is a proper hang with feet higher than head. Otherewise you will end up scrunched down.
