@jholt4021 Really? I mean...really? Do you actually believe the words you just typed? There were around 10 people in the park at the start of this video. It didn't take an entire metropolitan police force to handcuff these people and book them overnight if they were really all that concerned about them being in the park.
@kolby386 The Tulsa Police department has over 700 Officers in the department, by your posts I can see your very young, much to learn. Also Officers come in numbers for your safety as well as there own. Also it appears there has not been alot of studying done by several people that have posted. Pepper stray is exactly what it says. It's a mixture of peppers that can be consumed. I knew an Officer once that used to put ot on his Cheese burger when he ate. It's not at all dangerous, just hot.
I doubt the police people have a difficult time understanding the protesters. Laws about no occupying city parks at night is often necessary for safety reasons and so that people don't use the parks on just any night to camp.
I think the protestors and police are both acting as one would hope.
The only weapons should be words while possible. Antagonizing one another with any tauntings should backfire. The chant seems to have been meant well, but the delivery was harsh. Too loud.
@imagineers0 I think the reason the crowd was so harsh was because the pepper spray was completely unexpected and it was dark so it literally looked like they were coming up with bloody faces for a while. It seems incredibly cruel to spray people directly in the eyes, one of the protesters was blind for an hour afterwards. The sad thing about the introduction of "less lethal" weapons in the police force is that it becomes common to use those weapons in cases it's not really necessary.
Regarding protests, "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" is supposed to be protected. The Superclass own both parties (read "Grand Illusion" by Theresa Amato) meaning that they own government and the government owns us. We are weak. We will pay our personally incurred debt or be repossessed, pay our taxes supporting usury, and do as we're told. There will be no justice because we talk instead of shoot. We deserve subjugation.
I feel protesters should have an array of strobe lights pointing toward cops. All of them blinking at the same speed. To both annoy and confuse them. :P
I'm sure that many people are unaware that the police are privately owned. The people do not pay the police salary. They are privately OWNED and traded.
The whole situation is fucked up. the cops were ordered to do this, by higher-ups, when it would have been so much less trouble to just leave them there and ignore them. But our current leaders revel in show of force. The peperspray and rough handling of the protesters shows how some cops just love to use the badge to hurt and humiliate people. It's sad...
@Daytripn your an idiot. if they just did what the police were instructing them to do than there would have been no pepper spray and by not complying with the orders therefore they were resisting.
@soonerguy07 . Well didn't your mama teach you good manners, she must be proud. The protesters were no threat, no need to use excessive force, it was maliciious. We are one step away from our police force looking like the same type of government, our government is currently declaring wars on for supposedly oppressing and abusing their citizens. But i know I'm wasting my breath explaining such a concept to you, so carry on. Oh and it's YOU"RE an idiot, not your.
@Daytripn thank you for correcting my typing. I sincerely apologize for not double checking. Police are not going to continue to tell a person to move and keep telling him to move until the guy moves. Police told the people to move multiple times. The police told them what the law was and when the group of idiots continued to ignore the police, it was time for the police to make them to move. To bitch about the police using force to move them is ignorant.
@soonerguy07 You are entitled to your opinion. If I were a cop in that situation, I would have simply gotten assistance, picked him up and carried him away. They did that with others there, without using spray. What you interpret as ignorance, I consider compassion and understanding, not to mention diffusing, instead of inciting the situation. Hence the term peace officer.
It's only a matter of time before the people start fighting back and the police getting more violent, one of them is going to get shot and why? Because of fear, fear that the people have enough common sense to tell real good from bad. Governments are afraid of their people and now they strike not through stands and speeches but through corrupt law enforcement that'll balance a bone on their nose if you make them do so. This isn't justice, it's slaughter of what makes us human.
Big bad coppers with pepper spray, and pepperball guns. Been down there a dozen times after curfew never a word said to me. But as soon as people with a specific grievance show up to make their collective voice heard the police show their true colors. They selectively enforce a curfew that is violated every night by passers by, by homeless people that sleep down there nearly every night which the Police selectively ignore.
Disgraceful behavior by the Tulsa Police department. Obviously orders came from above where the power is held. The actions of the cops is a disgrace to our city coming on the heels of a corruption scandal showing just how corrupt the Tulsa police department has become from top to bottom.
Way to go. I am sure potential employers will just be thrilled when they see 'resisting arrest' on a background check. As if anyone with a brain would hire these jokers with OWS on a resume. You can still make a statement by being arrested peacefully. But not complying with a police officer, going limp, locking arms, etc. = resisting; so you are going to be arrested by any means. Pepperspray is uncomfortable, but you are not going to be permanently harmed. So stop making a scene, stupid hipsters.
@DarthDrizzt Yep. So ignorant that I didn't spend the night in jail for resisting arrest over a curfew citation. I enjoy being a productive member of society instead being a nuisance and intentionally provoking police all in the name of some misguided cause. Oh and btw, did Occupy Tulsa ever get those cigarettes that were on their list of needed items? I'm sure big tobacco would appreciate your money...(oh I mean other people's donated money)
Share it and see how your tax money is getting used - to beat, pepper spray, and abuse innocent citizens who neither fought nor did anything.
Disgraceful. I am ashamed to be part of Tulsa and this group of immoral "police", neither upholding the law nor protecting anyone. You can see hobos in another video SLEEPING in the same park and NOTHING was done. The group of tax paying citizens are the ones who are abused and beaten.
Outside of the pepper spray, it seems like the cops are going about it in a pretty professional manner. Not to condone what they did, but you gotta imagine its a difficult situation for them too, and it could have been a lot worse. Boston says stay strong guys.
If you Google "is using pepper spray unconstitutional" and click the first and second result you will see that a cop using pepper spray on any non-violent protester can be deemed unconstitutional. Even if those protesters violated a curfew, they were non-violent towards those cops, so the police had no right using pepper spray on them. I hope those protesters sue the hell out of the city of Tulsa in federal court and win.
It doesn't matter if the police have very little or very large salaries, they are still corrupted bullies. Let's face it..Our freedom has been bought and sold to the highest bidder. I personally knew a long time ago that this would eventually happen. This has been slowly brewing up for the last few decades, and now it has come to a head. To anyone who doesn't believe this..Keep drinking your Kool-Aid, and enjoy it while you can.
these police men are just trying to put food on the table for thier families, just like every single one of us. they do what they are told. this doesnt need to be a battle with the police. just comply with what they say. they warned all of you. If i had to put up with thier low salary and all the asshoes in this city, i'd be a hardass too. Don't forget your goals occupy. they are part of the 99, you dont need to be taunting them.
@heynae94 I agree, most would probably rather be out working on real calls than arresting people for curfew. My personal issue is more with the police chief. He made several statements to the group that turned out to be completely false. They told the protesters that they were being completely evicted from the park and not allowed to return when he came to turn off the electricity. Then when the cameras were there the story changed to "put the tents on the sidewalk and you are welcome back".
@heynae94 They have the constitional right to protest and free Assembly. It a violation of our rights as Americans to say (Im parafrasing ) "You grown as adults arent allowed to be out after a certain if your protesting here".
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Some solidarity, all you bloggers that are filming it to put up on youtube. If you were actually supportive you would have been there with them. ANd shame on anyone telling the police officers shame them and that they disgrace the uniform. Their job is to uphold the law, and that they did. If the protesters were really non-resistant, they would have gotten up peacefully and walked away. They in fact were resisting.
@Cyko316 Actually all the news crews violated curfew at one point to film the people on the grass, I haven't posted that clip yet. As far as being supportive, bringing $3,000 worth of equipment to an area that is to be raided by SWAT isn't without risk. I know people who have had their camera destroyed by police in recent weeks and I have no way to replace what I have. Also, if I were to be arrested that would only delay the video making it online. Thanks for trolling!
@EmmettLollis I dont think those are special weapons and tactics (SWAT) officers. Just reg cops. Just saying, calling them SWAT officers is like saying the SF showed up to to pull a shift at the guard tower. Dont think so. They have better things to do. But good luck with the videoing.
@InfidelStrong1 You may be right but the tip we had when police were coming was that SWAT was leaving from 21st and Yale. Then I overhead some of the local news networks I was with commenting that Tulsa does keep the SWAT van at 21st and Yale. Perhaps they just used the van to transport the riot gear or to transport the arrested.
Congress shall make no law ... prohibiting ... the right of the people peaceably to assemble..
..they didn't.
If you believe Tulsa violated the Constitution, you have every right to take them to court. What you don't have the right to do is to refuse to comply with a direct order from a police officer. The proper thing to do was to leave and take it up with the courts. However, before you do you might want to study case law concerning curfews and the right to assemble.
@ptah31 I don't think it would be considered civil disobedience then. I think the whole point to the entire OWS movement is the fact that we vote and we vote and we vote but never get represented by those we vote for.
For example, I sent an email to my senator about a month ago concerning legislation that was up for a vote. He just replied to my email today. The email said he is too busy to reply to my concerns.. Yet my mother can write him and always gets at least a full page reply.
Civil disobedience is not a Constitutional right. Love them or hate them the Tea party is actually making a difference. Why? Because they are changing things from inside the political system. All the Occupy movement is doing is attempting to sway public opinion...and in my opinion they are not swaying it to their side but against it. Some of the points they make are valid but becoming a public nuisance won't change a damn thing.
@ptah31 According to polls I saw several weeks ago OWS currently has more support than the tea party. That being said I don't see this as an OWS vs Tea Party issue. The 99% is meant to bring people together regardless of political affiliation to find solutions that will benefit everyone in the country. The biggest theme has been the removal of unfair influence that corporations, lobbyists and banks have on our government. Several OWS groups are voting on legislation proposals right now.
@EmmettLollis No, it's not about the difference between the Tea Party and OWS.. It's about the difference in the processes each have chosen and which is effective. As I said, OWS wants to sway public opinion so it doesn't surprise me they might poll better. But popularity will change nothing without the political power behind it... and guess what... only the far left supports OWS and they are doing it at arm's length. At least, until they co-opt OWS, at which point you're back at zero.
The police were just doing their Job, enforcing the law. Congress did not make the park's curfew ordinance, the city of Tulsa did which is constitutional. This group is just a bunch of drama queens.
@95TurboSol Did the city of Tulsa always have that curfew or did they just start it around the time people began to occupy the park? If this curfew has been in place, then maybe I could agree a bit on what happened b/c those people knew what they were getting themselves into, but if that law is new, then it's only so they can shut down free speech and peaceful protest.
Yeah, it's the regulations for all the parks in Tulsa, not just Centennial Green. As far as I know it has been in place long before they ever showed up.
@MrStradia Right, *yawn* - I bet when it all goes to shit and they start putting us all in camps that you'll be the first one that signs up to be a guard. You're in service to the 1% and you don't even know it.
@skeeveskeeve Wow, you have been drinking some nasty koolaid, haven't you? And what exactly does your comment mean anyway - in service to the 1%? You don't like having a boss do you?
I feel like most of these cops behaved as they are paid to. Except the one who pepper sprayed the man sitting down. Sue me, but if you were told to do a specific thing at a work place where you could be laid off any second would you not do it? Because i know that i need a job to pay my bills, and i'm sure these uniformed need to do the same.
@mcgeeb1215 Looks like that guy was resisting arrest to me. Seems like the cop asked him numerous times to put his hands in front of himself so he could be cuffed and the guy refused, then started struggling when the other cop tried to pull his hands up.
I can't even watch these videos anymore... to finally truly know that Freedom is dead ... it makes me literally cry. Fuck the capitalist pigs and fuck their slaves for serving them! IT'S NOT RIGHT!
@Bitthebeast What makes me cry is the fact that people believe that the police did the correct thing (based upon curfew violation). I am having a hard time convincing people that the protesters did not deserve what they got, even when they see the brutality in raw videos.
The police are under orders from politicians to arrest. Saying that, they shoud never use tear gas, pepper spray or bullets against non-violent demonstrators.
@gregspencewolf So what are the peaceful options that can be deployed if protesters violate curfew etc? Beg, plead? Pepper spray is the least aggressive thing they have at their disposal to control lawbreakers.
The police arrest non-violent protesters all the time without burning their eyes with pepper. Pepper spray is completely inappropriate for non-violent protesters. It is a weapon and weapons should not be used against non-violent people.
I was arrested once at a demonstration without weapons. The police picked up my body and put cuffs on.
@gregspencewolf You resist, you get sprayed. That's the rule. Doesn't matter if you are non-violent or not. It's about resisting. You playing like a dead fish isn't resisting. Locking arms is a direct challenge, and then they will spray you or use any means at their disposal to arrest you.
@MrStradia If you think that pepper spraying people who are not being violent is okay, then you are a dick. These protests are not violent. The cops jobs are to protect the citizens, not attack them. Oh wait, I forgot, in America, "reactionaries" who call themselves "conservatives" feel the best way to protect their standard of living is to keep other people down, not working with people to make the world a better place, but working against them.
@gregspencewolf You are free to call me whatever name you feel makes you feel better about yourself. I am sure if you were a police officer tasked with keeping the peace and handling disturbances, you would probably resort to using some sort of advantage as well. Cops are human and get scared as well, but have to be able to operate in fear every day. Maybe a little more respect for them would go along way.
@MrStradia I don't feel good abut calling you a dick. But think about it, you said the police are "keeping the peace" But the protstoers are being peaceful. When the powers that be use the police against peaceful demonstrations, there are always the apologists. Most police officers are respectful to protesters. When I was arrested at a protest, the police were respectful, and so was I. No insults, no violence (and yes pepper spray is violent)
The best education I received from Tulsa was from Nature and the Arkansas River. So I did alright. I remember that the oil companies run things around there and they will kill you. Just sayn.
These people are just screaming with ignorance, maybe one or two of them are intelligent the rest are just college kids who think they're making a difference by repeatedly yelling MIC CHECK and random hippie crap
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
I was there (across the street, not with them) . It's amazing that so many people stood on the sidewalk yelling. They didn't have the conviction of spirit to sit with the others who were arrested. The deserve what they got. Protest is to be done in an orderly manner. They just don't want to pay for the permit and get insurance. They were offered a park down the road that did not have a curfew but didn't want to go there because there were homeless people there.
@StayBrutalMister What is it you don't understand? Have you heard of the U.S. Constitution? It is our solemn right as American citizens to peacefully assemble and protest. We do not need a permit or insurance. These are simple ad homs by various local authorities to circumvent National law. Any charges will not be upheld.
@StayBrutalMister They did not want to go there because they deemed it not a suitable location for them to redress their grievances to the government, by a democratic vote of the members. The protests are going just as they have throughout history. See (Civil Rights Movement). See (United States Revolution). Those are just two.

It's sad...
Daytripn 3 months ago
@Daytripn your an idiot. if they just did what the police were instructing them to do than there would have been no pepper spray and by not complying with the orders therefore they were resisting.
soonerguy07 3 months ago
@soonerguy07 . Well didn't your mama teach you good manners, she must be proud. The protesters were no threat, no need to use excessive force, it was maliciious. We are one step away from our police force looking like the same type of government, our government is currently declaring wars on for supposedly oppressing and abusing their citizens. But i know I'm wasting my breath explaining such a concept to you, so carry on. Oh and it's YOU"RE an idiot, not your.
Daytripn 3 months ago
@Daytripn thank you for correcting my typing. I sincerely apologize for not double checking. Police are not going to continue to tell a person to move and keep telling him to move until the guy moves. Police told the people to move multiple times. The police told them what the law was and when the group of idiots continued to ignore the police, it was time for the police to make them to move. To bitch about the police using force to move them is ignorant.
soonerguy07 3 months ago

Cyko316 3 months ago
@Cyko316 Actually all the news crews violated curfew at one point to film the people on the grass, I haven't posted that clip yet. As far as being supportive, bringing $3,000 worth of equipment to an area that is to be raided by SWAT isn't without risk. I know people who have had their camera destroyed by police in recent weeks and I have no way to replace what I have. Also, if I were to be arrested that would only delay the video making it online. Thanks for trolling!
EmmettLollis 3 months ago 6
@EmmettLollis I dont think those are special weapons and tactics (SWAT) officers. Just reg cops. Just saying, calling them SWAT officers is like saying the SF showed up to to pull a shift at the guard tower. Dont think so. They have better things to do. But good luck with the videoing.
InfidelStrong1 3 months ago

However, before you do you might want to study case law concerning curfews and the right to assemble.
ptah31 3 months ago
@ptah31 I don't think it would be considered civil disobedience then. I think the whole point to the entire OWS movement is the fact that we vote and we vote and we vote but never get represented by those we vote for.
For example, I sent an email to my senator about a month ago concerning legislation that was up for a vote. He just replied to my email today. The email said he is too busy to reply to my concerns.. Yet my mother can write him and always gets at least a full page reply.
EmmettLollis 3 months ago
@EmmettLollis
Civil disobedience is not a Constitutional right. Love them or hate them the Tea party is actually making a difference. Why? Because they are changing things from inside the political system. All the Occupy movement is doing is attempting to sway public opinion...and in my opinion they are not swaying it to their side but against it. Some of the points they make are valid but becoming a public nuisance won't change a damn thing.
ptah31 3 months ago
@ptah31 According to polls I saw several weeks ago OWS currently has more support than the tea party. That being said I don't see this as an OWS vs Tea Party issue. The 99% is meant to bring people together regardless of political affiliation to find solutions that will benefit everyone in the country. The biggest theme has been the removal of unfair influence that corporations, lobbyists and banks have on our government. Several OWS groups are voting on legislation proposals right now.
EmmettLollis 3 months ago 3
@EmmettLollis No, it's not about the difference between the Tea Party and OWS.. It's about the difference in the processes each have chosen and which is effective. As I said, OWS wants to sway public opinion so it doesn't surprise me they might poll better. But popularity will change nothing without the political power behind it... and guess what... only the far left supports OWS and they are doing it at arm's length. At least, until they co-opt OWS, at which point you're back at zero.

95TurboSol 3 months ago
@95TurboSol Did the city of Tulsa always have that curfew or did they just start it around the time people began to occupy the park? If this curfew has been in place, then maybe I could agree a bit on what happened b/c those people knew what they were getting themselves into, but if that law is new, then it's only so they can shut down free speech and peaceful protest.

allenheresy 3 months ago 2
The police are under orders from politicians to arrest. Saying that, they shoud never use tear gas, pepper spray or bullets against non-violent demonstrators.
gregspencewolf 3 months ago 2
@gregspencewolf So what are the peaceful options that can be deployed if protesters violate curfew etc? Beg, plead? Pepper spray is the least aggressive thing they have at their disposal to control lawbreakers.
MrStradia 3 months ago
@MrStradia
The police arrest non-violent protesters all the time without burning their eyes with pepper. Pepper spray is completely inappropriate for non-violent protesters. It is a weapon and weapons should not be used against non-violent people.
I was arrested once at a demonstration without weapons. The police picked up my body and put cuffs on.
gregspencewolf 3 months ago 2
@gregspencewolf You resist, you get sprayed. That's the rule. Doesn't matter if you are non-violent or not. It's about resisting. You playing like a dead fish isn't resisting. Locking arms is a direct challenge, and then they will spray you or use any means at their disposal to arrest you.
MrStradia 3 months ago
@MrStradia If you think that pepper spraying people who are not being violent is okay, then you are a dick. These protests are not violent. The cops jobs are to protect the citizens, not attack them. Oh wait, I forgot, in America, "reactionaries" who call themselves "conservatives" feel the best way to protect their standard of living is to keep other people down, not working with people to make the world a better place, but working against them.
gregspencewolf 3 months ago
@gregspencewolf You are free to call me whatever name you feel makes you feel better about yourself. I am sure if you were a police officer tasked with keeping the peace and handling disturbances, you would probably resort to using some sort of advantage as well. Cops are human and get scared as well, but have to be able to operate in fear every day. Maybe a little more respect for them would go along way.
MrStradia 3 months ago
@MrStradia I don't feel good abut calling you a dick. But think about it, you said the police are "keeping the peace" But the protstoers are being peaceful. When the powers that be use the police against peaceful demonstrations, there are always the apologists. Most police officers are respectful to protesters. When I was arrested at a protest, the police were respectful, and so was I. No insults, no violence (and yes pepper spray is violent)
